It has a bit of a Tibetan and Nepalese vibe, with a touch of Middle Eastern exoticism. Anyway, it's very "desert-like." Haha. The National Day room rates were certainly not cheap, but the higher investment was truly reflected in many of the experience details. The stay included a complimentary desert activity and three professionally retouched travel photos. The hotel built special stargazing facilities and provided a 40-minute stargazing lecture. During the evening wine tasting event, the server brought out 5 types of Zhixia wine. The toiletries were a full set of Amouage, and they even prepared shoe covers for guests, so you don't need to buy them in advance. Dads and kids went to play in the sand, while moms went for the travel photoshoot. Everyone got what they wanted and was satisfied. 😂 But what really made me remember this night was the "Desert Mirage" show at night. At that moment, I felt that what I paid for wasn't just a room, but someone designing a complete "night in the desert" for me. If I come again, how would I choose? Actually, I still wouldn't compare these two types of accommodation to see which is better. The keyword for the tent is "authentic." The conditions are simpler, but it let the child truly walk into the desert. Sandboarding, looking for rabbit holes, observing plants, and making straw checkerboards became her happy memories. The keyword for Tengol is "complete." A higher price brings more mature hardware, aesthetics, service, and experience design. Off-roading, travel photoshoots, big shows, and stargazing—you can experience it all comfortably in one night. If your budget is limited but you want to truly experience desert life with your kids, the tent is worth a try. If you care more about accommodation quality and want to stay in the desert more comfortably and uniquely, Tengol is indeed a different experience. For a more distant destination like Tengger Desert, you can fly to Yinchuan Hedong Airport, rent a car upon arrival, and drive for two hours to Alxa Left Banner, or transfer directly at the high-speed rail station to Zhongwei South Station. It takes about 2 hours to walk; if you have bad knees, don't push it. Jinxiu Lianhuashan (Lotus Mountain) has a different vibe. The stone peaks stand up like flower petals. When you climb halfway up and look back, the entire valley is beneath your feet. ⚠️ Few supply points on the mountain. Great for bringing parents—the pace is slow, and while there are many steps, the cable car saves most of the effort. 03 Mianyang | Sichuan I didn't have high expectations for the Beichuan Qiang City Tourist Area, but I ended up spending most of the day there. 📍 Around the Qiang Folk Museum, the architecture spreads out along the mountain. The watchtowers, stone walls, and wooden corridors are full of intricate details. ⏰ The light hits at an angle after 3:00 PM, making it the best time for architectural photography. The red leaves spread from the foot of the mountain to the waist, making it more authentic than many "viral" autumn foliage spots. There are many Taoist temples on the mountain; the scent of incense mixed with pine resin is very calming. ⚠️ Some sections have steep, narrow steps. If you're with elderly travelers, choose the gentler route and don't overexert yourselves. 🍜 After descending, head to downtown Jinzhou for barbecue. Jinzhou barbecue is famous for a reason—small skewers with garlic chili sauce, one after another. 🚄 It's about a 1.5-hour drive from Jinzhou Station to Lushan. Great for autumn visits and for those who love hiking but hate crowds. Stay in downtown Jinzhou to explore the night markets in the evening. 05 Shigatse | Tibet Mount Everest needs no introduction. 📍 The area around Rongbuk Monastery is the best spot to view the peak. ⏰ The ten minutes or so around sunrise, when the summit is dyed gold, make the shivering worth it. ⚠️ The altitude is high. Acclimatize in Shigatse for a day or two before heading up; don't rush it. Tashilhunpo Monastery is in downtown Shigatse. The giant Buddha in the Maitreya Chapel will leave you stunned when you look up. ⏰ Go in the morning; the sound of monks chanting drifting from the hall creates an incredible atmosphere. 🍜 There are many sweet tea houses in the city. Sweet tea with Tibetan noodles is cheap and filling. 🚄 There's a high-speed train from Lhasa to Shigatse, taking about 3 hours. Stay in the city; trips to Everest are usually done by chartered car or small tour groups. There are many checkpoints on the road, so bring all your documents. Suitable for those in good physical condition who can handle high altitudes. 06 Nantong | Jiangsu Haohe River is Nantong's moat, circling the old city. 📍 The section near Beihao Bridge is best for an evening stroll. The river is wide, and the lights from both banks shimmer in the water. ⏰ Arrive around 6:00 PM at dusk. It's not completely dark yet, the lights have just turned on, and you don't have to wait to take photos. You can take a boat tour or walk along the river. ⚠️ Boat tours are crowded in the evening. Drive slowly if you're self-driving, and take motion sickness medicine if you get carsick. Guan'egou is another highlight of Longnan. There are many waterfalls in the valley. 📍 The sound of water around Tongtianmen is deafening, and it's so cool in the summer you won't want to leave. 🍜 Longnan's potato jiaotuan (mashed potato balls) and rice noodles are sour, spicy, and appetizing.
