Thank you, National Museum of Australia, for an outstanding and immersive exhibition on Antarctica! I brought my elderly mother, and she absolutely enjoyed her morning at the Museum. We were captivated by Antarctica's breathtaking seasonal transformations displayed on the big screen, as well as the intriguing artefacts including the incredible penguins, seals, birds, dogs, cameras, and specialized attire suited for such a tough environment. Additionally, the history of Antarctica and the remarkable photographs were equally fascinating. A special note of thanks goes to Hugo, whom we met on Thursday. He guided us through an absorbing overview of the ships, the caravan, the equipment, and the story of the dogs, particularly Satan. It was completely fascinating and highly educational. Hugo's patience and extensive knowledge about Antarctica were commendable. We truly appreciate having such fantastic exhibitions right here in our backyard, and to top it off, it was free of charge! We’re already looking forward to visiting again before it closes. Thank you once more, National Museum, and please extend our gratitude to Hugo! :)) Warm regards, Alison and Shirley

#underratedspots The Museum of Australia rises as a grand custodian of heritage, where sweeping architecture frames centuries of culture and natural history. Within its halls, artifacts and exhibits whisper of ancient landscapes, First Nations traditions, and the evolution of a nation, inviting wanderers into a dialogue between memory and identity. As twilight drapes the city in hues of rose and indigo, the museum becomes more than a repository; it is a ritual of wonder, a refuge where stories and silence entwine beneath the glow of timeless heritage. Here, every relic and inscription writes a chapter upon the spirit, eternal and unyielding.

The National Museum showcased a fascinating selection of exhibits. I especially liked the landmark gallery. The outdoor gardens were captivating as well. The staff were very friendly, accommodating, and approachable. The cafe was spotless, reasonably priced, and offered stunning views of the water. Overall, I had a great time during my visit.

The Botanical Gardens were fantastic, particularly how each themed section blended seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The Banksia, Rainforest, and Red Centre Gardens stood out as exceptional. The signage was generally good, but if you wandered a little off the main path, it became a bit difficult to find your way (our only critique). Plan to spend at least 2–3 hours here.

I really enjoyed the day. I had been on a similar tour to Canberra 40 years ago, but it was definitely worth revisiting. This time, the trip included Mount Ainslie, which offers an extensive view of the city. We also visited the Australian War Memorial, National Museum, and Parliament House. Morning tea was at Heatherbrae's Pies on the Hume Highway, where the pies were delicious. A special thank you to our driver and tour guide Fernando for making the day so enjoyable.

The undeniable highlight of the gardens is the "Romeo and Juliet" twin pyramid greenhouses. Inside, they simulate various climatic environments, allowing visitors in this northern region to marvel at exotic flora from around the world. During the summer, the outdoor gardens burst with life. #australiatrip A botanic garden with a difference: here you will find only plants indigenous to Australia. For most countries this would be a serious limitation but Australia is not only vast it also has a wide range of ecosystems from deserts to rainforests. All of these are on display creating a visually interesting and a botanically fascinating garden. Attend the free guided tour if you can because you will learn insights into species specific adaptations such as plants creating red fresh foliage that is unattractive to caterpillars. This variety of plants has encouraged wildlife and there are birds everywhere as well as water dragons. Paths, signage and plant labelling is exemplary. You can also access the trail to the summit of Black Mountain from the garden. Facilities include a cafe, shop, toilets and water refill points.

Canberra is truly a haven for those who enjoy a slow-paced, artsy lifestyle! Why? Because it boasts numerous bookstores, wide and quiet streets, and expansive museums—it's a paradise for introverts❣️❣️❣️❣️ From Sydney, you can take a direct bus to Canberra's city center in just 3 hours👍🏻😉. Once there, I hopped on a scooter and headed straight to the National Museum of Australia in Canberra. It didn’t take long to explore, but there were plenty of exhibitions about Australia’s development in the 70s and 80s. Outside the museum, there’s a serene lakeside area where you can enjoy a coffee and relax😌😌😌. Canberra isn’t very big, so getting around on a scooter is super convenient. I headed straight to my accommodation, a motel called Forrest Hotel and Apartments. It was clean and tidy, the caretaker was very friendly, and the price was reasonable—highly recommended. One must-visit spot in Canberra is the Australian Parliament House, one of the few parliamentary buildings in the world that allows public access. I toured the Senate, the House of Representatives, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch a live parliamentary session! Stay tuned for Part 2 in my next post😎😎 📍National Museum of Australia - Lawson Cres, Acton ACT 2601, Australia 📍Forrest Hotel and Apartments - 30 National Circuit, Forrest ACT 2603, Australia 📍Parliament House - Parliament Dr, Canberra ACT 2600, Australia

I recently attended the exceptional MR Squiggle exhibition and had a great time, though I was disappointed I couldn’t schedule a tour (probably offered only during school holidays). One of the staff members, Hugo, a delightful person, graciously provided a brief half-hour tour for my sister and me—a generous gesture but left us yearning for more! Booking a tour really enhanced our experience and understanding, so it’s highly recommended if you can. Hugo was an amazing tour guide, and the exhibition was wonderful!
