What is Medical and Related Expenses Cover?

    Overseas Medical Expenses


    If, during the Period of Insurance, while You are on a Journey, You incur Medical Expenses or Traditional Chinese Medicine Expenses Overseas as a direct result of an Accidental Injury or Sickness, or Dental Expenses as a direct result of Accidental Injury, or Medical Expenses as a direct result of being diagnosed with COVID-19.

    Continuation of Medical Treatment After Return To Singapore


    If, during the Period of Insurance, while You are on a Journey, You suffer an Accidental Injury or Sickness and You have been treated by a Doctor or Chinese Doctor Overseas, You may continue to seek medical treatment from a Doctor or Chinese Doctor in Singapore up to thirty-one (31) consecutive days from the date of Your return to Singapore.

    Chubb Assistance - Emergency Medical Evacuation


    If, during the Period of Insurance and while on a Journey, You:
    (a) suffer an Accidental Injury or Sickness as diagnosed by a Doctor designated by Chubb Assistance; and
    (b) the necessary medical treatment is not available, either at the nearest Hospital where You were transported to or in the immediate vicinity thereof, after suffering the Accidental Injury or Sickness.

    Chubb Assistance - Repatriation of Mortal Remains


    If, during the Period of Insurance, while You are on a Journey, You suffer death as a result of an Accidental Injury or Sickness or COVID-19, Chubb Assistance, or its authorised representative shall make the necessary arrangements for the return of Your mortal remains to Singapore or to Your Home Country.

    Overseas medical expenses


    We will pay the medical, surgical, nursing or hospital charges incurred by the insured person outside Singapore which a doctor says are medically necessary as a result of injury or illness suffered by the insured person during the journey.

    Medical expenses in Singapore


    If an insured person receives medical treatment during the journey outside Singapore for an injury or illness suffered during the overseas journey, we will also pay for the medical expenses which are a continuation in Singapore of the overseas medical treatment, limited to 30 days after the insured person returns to Singapore.

    If medical treatment is not first received outside Singapore, the insured person must arrange for medical treatment in Singapore within 72 hours of their return to Singapore

    Physiotherapy, chiropractic and traditional Chinese medicine expenses
    We will pay the insured person the cost of treatment by a licensed physiotherapist, chiropractor or TCM practitioner which is needed for injury and illness suffered by the insured person during the journey overseas.

    We will further pay for medical treatment expenses by a licensed physiotherapist, chiropractor or TCM practitioner in Singapore which are a continuation of the overseas medical treatment, limited to 30 days after the insured person returns to Singapore.

    Where the treatment by a licensed physiotherapist, chiropractor or TCM practitioner is not first received outside Singapore, an insured person must receive such treatment in Singapore within 72 hours of their return to Singapore, before we will pay for these expenses, limited to 30 days after the insured person returns to Singapore.

    Overseas hospitalisation daily benefit


    We will pay the benefit for each complete 24-hour period of the insured person’s stay in hospital outside Singapore due to an injury or illness suffered during the overseas journey.

    Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation


    Emergency medical evacuation:
    If an insured person suffers an injury or illness during the journey outside Singapore which results in a serious medical condition, we will organise air, land or sea transport, medical care during transportation, communications and all other usual services made available to us which are needed when moving the insured person to the nearest hospital where appropriate medical care is available.

    We will decide the place to which the insured person will be sent and the method by which the evacuation will be carried out, taking account of all the assessed facts and circumstances which we are aware of at the relevant time.

    Sending you home after a medical emergency evacuation:
    Following the emergency medical evacuation referred to in section 7.1 above and if we feel it is medically necessary, we will arrange and pay for the insured person to be taken back to Singapore by scheduled airline flight (on economy class) or any other appropriate method of transport, including any extra costs of transportation to and from the airport, if their original ticket is not valid for the purpose. However, the insured person must give any unused portion of their ticket to us.

    Sending home your mortal remains:
    If an insured person passes away outside Singapore resulting from an injury or illness suffered during the journey overseas, we will make all the necessary arrangements (including any procedures or arrangements needed to meet local formalities) for sending the insured person’s body or ashes to the insured person’s home in Singapore.

    Letter of Guarantee (LOG) for overseas hospital admission


    If an insured person has to stay in hospital outside Singapore as a result of an injury or illness, we may issue a LOG to the hospital for covering the insured person’s overseas hospitalisation expenses up to the sum insured for benefits table. The insured persons must contact MSIG Assist to inform us of such LOG request upon confirming admission into a hospital

    Compassionate and hospital visit


    If an insured person has to stay in hospital outside Singapore as a result of an injury or illness for more than five days and no adult member of the insured person’s family is with them, we will pay for the reasonable travel (economy air travel, first-class rail travel) and accommodation expenses for one of the insured person’s immediate family member who, on the written advice of a doctor, is needed to travel from Singapore to be with the insured person until they are able to resume their journey or return to Singapore, whichever happens first. The benefit also applies if an insured person passes away as a result of an injury or illness during the journey outside Singapore.

    Child guard


    If an adult insured person has to stay in hospital during the journey outside Singapore as a result of an injury or illness and there is no other adult to accompany the children who are on the same journey, we will pay for the reasonable travel (economy air travel, first-class rail travel) and accommodation expenses for one family member or relative to travel overseas to accompany the children back to Singapore.

    Overseas medical expenses due to COVID-19

    We will pay the medical, surgical, nursing or hospital charges incurred by the insured person outside Singapore is tested positive for COVID-19 by a doctor or a government approved personnel outside Singapore during the trip.

    We will pay the eligible expenses which are incurred up to 60 days from the date the insured person was first tested positive for COVID-19 by a doctor or a government approved personnel. To avoid any doubt, we will assess the claim based on the date which the COVID-19 test was done and not the date which the test results are released. For single return trip, claims due to COVID-19 infection diagnosed from test done after 45 days from the start of the trip are not covered.

  • How many days of travel will I be covered for?

    MSIG International Travel Insurance: For a one-way trip, coverage will cease after you have cleared immigration at the destination country or upon the expiry of your travel insurance, whichever is earlier. For an individual return trip, the maximum trip duration is 45 days.
    Chubb International Travel Insurance: You will be covered for the period as stated in the Certificate of Insurance issued to you. For a one-way trip, the coverage period is up to 3 days per trip. For a return trip, the coverage period is up to 90 days per trip.
  • What are the age requirements for the policyholder?

    MSIG International Travel Insurance: The policyholder (also the "applicant") must be at least 18 years old on the policy application date.
    Chubb International Travel Insurance: Travel Insurance by Chubb: The policyholder (the person named as the policyholder in the Certificate of Insurance) must be between 18 and 75 years old on the date that the insurance is purchased.
  • What are the age requirements for insured people?

    MSIG International Travel Insurance: Insured persons must be at least 1 month old at the start of the insurance period. Insured children under the age of 12 years must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian during the travel period.
    Chubb International Travel Insurance: The insured persons (persons identified as insured persons in the Certificate of Insurance) must be between 2 and 75 years old on the date that the insurance is purchased.
  • Can I take out insurance on behalf of someone else?

    MSIG International Travel Insurance: You can buy the International Travel Insurance (for Singapore residents only) for yourself, and for your relatives and friends, up to a maximum of 9 insured persons (including you) in the same application. The insured persons must travel as a group together on the same trip.
    Chubb International Travel Insurance: You can buy the International Travel Insurance for yourself, and for your relatives and friends, up to a maximum of 9 insured persons (including you) in the same application. The insured persons must travel as a group together on the same trip.
  • When will my insurance coverage begin?

    MSIG International Travel Insurance: Policy is effective as soon as travel insurance is issued. Insurance coverage will commence based on the insurance period shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
    Chubb International Travel Insurance: Your insurance cover will commence from the time you leave your place of residence in Singapore to go directly to the departure point, or three hours before the scheduled departure time of the carrier in which you have arranged to travel, whichever is later. The dates you are covered can be found in your Certificate of Insurance.
  • How are claims settled?

    If you want to make a claim, you need to contact the insurance company directly.
    MSIG International Travel Insurance: If you wish to file a claim, you have to do so within 30 days of the scheduled trip end date. You can submit your claim online together with all the supporting documents such as medical bills, medical report, and police report.
