Husky Sleigh Ride @Rovaniemi

Visiting Lapland of Rovaniemi in Finland will not be completed without a husky ride. The trainer will do a briefing to coach us on do and dons about the husky ride, how to have a safe ride, how to maneuver on the slop or difficult area, and how to signal the husky to stop. Each ride is for two people, one is sitting as a passenger, and one is the navigator or the driver. After the briefing, we proceed to the husky farm area, where we can interact will the baby or young huskies. Huskies love attention; upon our arrival, they all scream for attention. So cute, all the husky dogs are well trained and well fed, and friendly. The journey is to explore the national park in Rovaniemi, so the ride is not always smooth; some are slippery up or down the road. The ride takes around 45 minutes to one hour with a break in the middle. It is not easy, but it's worth it and fun. Location: #eurotrip #finland

Artic Circle @Finland

I was standing at the starting point of the Arctic Circle, a parallel, or line of latitude around the Earth, at approximately 66°30′ N. Because of the Earth's inclination of about 23 1/2° to the vertical, it marks the southern limit of the area within which, for one day or more each year, the Sun does not set (about June 21) or rise (about December 21). The Arctic region covers eight countries: Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, and the United States (via Alaska). Nearly one-third of Finland's land lies above the Arctic Circle in the province of Lapland, including Santa Clause Village. The coach driver told me that it is common for people in Lapland to experience more prolonged sunshine in summer and 24 hours dark in Winter. #eurotrip

Artic City Hotel @Rovaniemi, Finland

I spent my first three nights in Artic City Hotel in Rovaniemi for my Finland trip. The location of this hotel is very strategic, in the city center. Surrounding by malls and shopping centers, pubs and restaurants, supermarket, Asian groceries shop, Asian restaurants, and Mac Donald's. So, it is easy for me to get my local sim card and some alcohol from here. The lobby hotel is very comfy and pleasant; there are two big lounges in the lobby area with free fresh cool water. The room I got is pretty basic and small. I love the breakfast here, the selection is very nice, from toast bread to bakery, fresh yogurt, and fresh fruit. Breakfast absolutely great. Snow & The City @ Rovaniemi Finland

Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland in northern Finland. With the dark history of this city during World War II, Rovaniemi today is a modern city and is a trademark as the official home town of Santa Claus, the main access for the chaser of Nothern Light or Aurora, and unparalleled access to the Artic Circle. During winter time and Christmas season, Rovaniemi is become the most visit for tourist, although the city it self is a small city in Lapland, with population around 65,000. Rovaniemi is also become the base for tourist to visit the attraction around Lapland, same like what I did. If you are visiting Santa Clause village, reindeer ride and Snowmobile ride, mostly people use Rovaniemi as the base to stay. The northern light also can be seen from the city area, however usually it was only during the powerful solar storms. Rovaniemi prominent landmarks are the Jatkankynttila bridge, Arktikum Science Museum, and the Rovaniemi City Hall. #eurotrip

Finland Diary: A Solo Winter Trip to See Santa

Finland Diary: A Solo Winter Trip to See Santa

Rovaniemi is Santa Claus's hometown. After seeing videos of reindeer pulling sleighs, I really wanted to visit. Three days were perfectly sufficient for a solo trip, and it wasn't too expensive. Day 1 • 7pm: Arrived in Rovaniemi. Stayed in the city center, took a taxi from the airport. • If you arrive before 8pm, you can book a city aurora tour. • The Santa Claus-designated McDonald's is in the city center. It was formerly the northernmost McDonald's in the Arctic Circle. Free postcards are available. Day 2 • Day trip experience: Reindeer sleigh ride + Husky sledding + Santa Claus Village • The departure point can be the city center or Santa Claus Village. Warm clothing is provided. • Reindeer sleigh ride: 10 minutes, the route goes through a small forest, and it's super atmospheric on a sunny day. • Husky sledding: It should be the company's own husky park. There aren't many dogs, but they are very enthusiastic and cute! • After the activities, you can take the bus to Santa Claus Village for free time or return to the city center. • Tip: You can participate in individual experiences directly at Santa Claus Village, but the queues are very long and cold, and it seems that single riders aren't allowed. So, the day trip is very convenient, hop-on hop-off, no queues, and no cold waiting. • I booked an aurora tour with the same company in the evening, but there was only one observation point. Luckily, I saw the dancing aurora, which was super worthwhile. Day 3 • Took a taxi from the city center to Santa Claus Village. • Photo with Santa Claus: Queued for about 1 hour. • Santa Claus can speak Chinese, "Ni Hao," and the atmosphere was amazing. • Afterward, you can send postcards, buy Arctic Circle certificates, and participate in various other activities, but queuing outdoors is really cold and not recommended. • There are live cameras in the village, so you can find yourself on the live stream. Because Rovaniemi is right on the Arctic Circle, the sky is often a beautiful pink and blue when it's sunny, which is super healing. Unlike further north in Norway, the pink hues last a really long time in Finland. Taking a taxi with Uber is very convenient and fast. I chose a homestay in the city center for accommodation. It was over 1,000 RMB and very spacious. Because it's quite cold, waiting for public transport can be quite uncomfortable. Although it's generally said that you'll regret not coming here, and regret even more after coming, there are still things to do. There are a lot of tourists with children, so it can be a bit noisy. As for the temperature, it's quite terrifying. I wore two layers of thermal underwear, two fleeces, a down jacket, a scarf, thermal pants, hiking pants, and cotton pants, and I was still cold.

Beautiful Santa Claus village 🇫🇮

#thingstodo Santa Claus village is located in the reaching point of Arctic circle. There’s line in the village to remind you that you are stepping into it. In the recent trip to rovaniemi, I have tried the deer ride which was an unforgettable experience for me! After that , I have explored the village around and captured some of the good moments. The red lighting has shined the village and made it more attractive. #rovaniemi

Winter @RanuaZoo, Finland

Ranua Wildlife Park is a zoo located in Ranua, Lapland, Finland. This has been the northernmost zoo in Finland since 1983. I visited this zoo in the wintertime; therefore, the surrounding is like the movie Frozen, super cool and mostly all white. Because of winter and the weather, the animal became less active. Not many animals could be seen; however, I saw some important animals, such as The polar bear, wild boar, fox, deer, and Buffalo. The park is huge, and the best way to see all the animals residents here is better to join the guided tour from the zoo. A restaurant is available in this zoo with a good selection of meals and drinks. A souvenir shop is also available here. Open daily, 10am to 6pm. Address: Rovaniementie 29, Ranua, Finland. #eurotrip
