Zhangjiajie Hotel Guide

The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the first national forest park in China. The scenic area is covered by old-growth forests in addition to jagged stone pillars and scenic waterfalls. Some of the scenery in the Hollywood movie, Avatar, was based on the mountains found in Zhangjiajie’s national park. In addition to the national park, the city is home to Mount Tianmen, which is not far from the urban area, and the Huanglong Cave in the eastern mountains. Visitors have the opportunity to climb the cliffs and check out the magnificent karst landscapes in the cave.

Zhangjiajie Forest Park has accommodation areas in Yuanjiajie, Yangjiajie, and Mount Tianzi. The Tianbo House in the Yangjiajie area is a viewing platform on the top of the mountain and ideal for taking spectacular pictures. However, the trails for taking pictures here are very dangerous and narrow and require special attention for safety reasons. Zhangjiajie Forest Park takes up a huge area, so keep in mind that there’s no need to visit all of the attractions within it. If you try to visit all of them, it’s easy to get tired out, which can greatly reduce the quality of your trip.

In spring, Zhangjiajie is full of flowers and spring scenery. Autumn in Zhangjiajie is cool and refreshing, especially after the rain. Park visitors can climb high platforms in the mountains and look around from above. The thousands of peaks appear to be a sea of stones and trees. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is a well-known tourist attraction in China, and it is visited by many during all days of the week. During major holidays, the park is often quite literally filled with people. During these times, it is common for lines to cable cars and elevators to require lining up for around two hours. For this reason, it’s best visit outside of the peak seasons.

Accommodation area in Zhangjiajie is mainly divided into urban areas (Yongding district), scenic spots areas (inside Zhangjiajie National Forest Park) and Wulingyuan area, among which the urban area is a residential area where tourists choose more. During the peak tourism season in Zhangjiajie, the rooms are in high demand and need to be booked in advance. There are many kinds of hotels in Zhangjiajie’s urban area, so there is plenty of selection. The surrounding commercial areas are relatively developed and public transportation is convenient. And there are high-end hotels and inns of various levels. During peak season, hotels in Zhangjiajie should be booked in advance. Accommodations in the scenic area are mainly in the form of farmhouses. In the winter, many farmhouses temporarily close, so it’s best to consult the place you’d like to stay if possible before booking. Some benefits of staying in the scenic area are that it’s close to the Wulingyuan Ticket Station of the Forest Park and it’s also convenient to visit Huanglong Cave. However, it should be noted that the prices of accommodations in Wulingyuan are not cheap and the facilities are not as developed as the downtown area.
