This is the best homestay we ever stayed in China. Food is very good, refined, tasty and reasonably priced in such high quality resort styled homestay. Owner speaks very good English, is approachable, polite and helpful. We will definitely come back should we visit Avatar Mountain again. Shambhala shall be the only homestay we would recommend to anyone who is looking for accommodation within the scenic area.

The hotel's location inside the west gate of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is incredibly convenient for accessing the cable car. Visiting during the off-peak season was a definite bonus! The air is incredibly rich in negative oxygen ions, reaching 16,000, making it perfect for a short stay to rejuvenate and improve sleep, or for longer-term wellness. The hotel itself is brand new, predominantly white, with arched doorways in the bedrooms that perfectly complement the lush green scenery outside. The zen-inspired lobby offers a ceremonial feel, with aromas of Lu'an Guapian, Lapsang Souchong, local enzyme tea, and Gesha sun-dried coffee beans from Ethiopia, all contributing to a relaxed and comfortable ambiance. The subtle scent of Zen tea permeates the space, highlighting its taste and character. For dining, the hotel offers three breakfast options, including local specialties like rice noodles, pork buns made with local pigs, millet porridge, and homemade fermented tofu and pickled radishes that truly warm the palate. You can also pre-order dishes prepared by a chef who previously worked at a Michelin-starred restaurant, such as black chicken soup with stone ear mushrooms, braised giant salamander, chopped chili fish head, and cured meat with wild bamboo shoot stew – a true feast of local mountain delicacies. The owner, a doctor who studied in the UK, is a fascinating individual – warm, meticulous, and effortlessly switches between English and local dialects, attracting many foreign guests. She's incredibly thoughtful and attentive to guests' needs, and with her background as a senior executive in a five-star hotel, she brings an exceptional level of taste and warmth to this unique elevator-equipped guesthouse. It makes you want to return again and again. Most guests are families, business travelers, and international visitors, creating a friendly atmosphere where you can chat, play cards, or even practice calligraphy, all while enjoying a comfortable and clean stay. I've already decided to bring my friends here to continue experiencing the quality and taste of this top-tier guesthouse.

Strategic Location for a Relaxed, Crowd-Free Zhangjiajie Experience** We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at this hotel, which proved to be an ideal base for exploring the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. As travelers who speak a limited amount of Mandarin and prefer a measured pace, we found the experience both rewarding and stress-free. **Key Advantages & Location** The hotel’s primary strength is its proximity to the park’s less-frequented entrance. Being situated already "inside" the park boundary with the ropeway just a 5 to 10-minute walk away is a significant functional advantage. Since the ropeway opens at 8:00 AM, we were able to enjoy a restful morning while still reaching the walking routes well ahead of the mid-day peak. By commencing our routes from the western side, we effectively moved "against the crowd." During our two-and-a-half-day visit, our average wait time for park shuttle buses, ropeways or elevators was approximately 5 minutes. Remarkably, both times we used the Bailong Elevator, we arrived at the gate "first in line" and shared the cabin with fewer than six people. This efficiency allowed us to explore the park extensively—nearly "looping" the park twice in a single day—without ever feeling rushed. I originally thought these logistical benefits were due to my decisions, however in hindsight, the location of the hotel was more likely the reason for this outcome. **Service and Hospitality** Our host, Kelly, was instrumental in the success of our trip. By communicating our plans early, she was able to facilitate the arrangement of park tickets, transfers, and provides some route suggestions based on her experience. Beyond logistics, we greatly appreciated her willingness to also share some cultural insights, such as the history and pop culture surrounding Wulong Zhai, which added a meaningful dimension to our visit. **Room and Facilities** We stayed in the main wing, located above the entrance and dining area. The room features met our specific needs perfectly. We noted that an elevator was in the process of being installed, which will be a welcome addition for future accessibility. **Points to Consider** * **Location Focus:** This hotel is perfect for those prioritizing the Forest Park itself. However, if your itinerary includes evening performances like "Fox Fairy" or the other shows in Wulingyuan, you may find a more central town location more convenient. * **Environment:** We were never bothered by insects, but guests should be aware that this is a mountain location; the presence of local bugs around the exterior is natural and should be expected. * **Accessibility:** We had no mobility issues, but currently, access to the main wing requires stairs (until the elevator installation is complete). **Final Thoughts** For travelers who value a quiet, informed stay and wish to avoid the typical bottlenecks of the park’s more popular gates, this boutique hotel is an excellent choice. Having the time to engage with local suggestions and move at our own pace made our China trip feel truly personal.

Wonderful stay — the other guests’ reviews are absolutely accurate. If you want a quiet, nature-focused, zen place to relax for 3 days, this is perfect.the room amenities and bedding is on par with 5 star hotel . The owners clearly thought through the renovation to keep the rooms dry and well-ventilated — a real blessing in humid Zhangjiajie. From the lobby to the room the air felt clean and fresh. Kelly was incredibly helpful: she tweaked my itinerary, bought entrance tickets, and arranged the cable cars and Bailong Elevator & brought us to scan our face at entrance nearby . Tip: tell the attendant if you want a round-trip cable car so you don’t have to get out and queue again . The hotel is only a 5-minute walk to the west entrance cable car, which I loved — Day 2 (Huangshi Village, the quieter side of the Avatar area, and the Ten-Mile Gallery) was my favorite. I am glad I followed Kelly suggestion. The village chicken soup was delicious and generous — truly home-cooked and organic. And keep the soup for tomorrow breakfast and add on noodles , it’s even more delicious . Highly recommended for independent travelers who appreciate a peaceful, thoughtful stay.

The location is super close to the Yangjiajie cable car. The room was very clean and the host was really friendly. Breakfast was egg noodles. One improvement would be: I should have been informed beforehand that some rooms don't include breakfast and there's an extra charge.

Facilities: The Zen-style decor is fantastic. Cleanliness: Spotless. Environment: The view is expansive and there's plenty of space. It's the perfect choice when you want to enjoy some quiet time. Located inside the west gate of the National Forest Park, it adds so much convenience to a smooth trip, saving time queuing for entry and reducing the number of times you need to book park access. It also significantly boosts safety! Service: The owner is kind and lovely, and the service is thoughtful and meticulous. They patiently helped answer all my questions. If I come back to Zhangjiajie, I'll definitely choose this place again.
