This lovely hotel is in the middle of Zell am See 1 block off of the lake in the center of town. We had the Zeller Suite which had the only available view of the lake at time of booking. It was truly unique. Our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. A round bed is the first to catch your eye. A first for us in a room, it was large & comfortable. Very quiet. There were plenty of sitting space, a bar, private sauna, stylish tub in the room, and a large bathroom with shower. We had a big balcony with view of lake & mountains. There was a lift. This is family run hotel of the finest quality. Breakfast & dinners were of the best quality. The staff are all willing to help out. There are spa facilities & a pool which we didn't use and on site parking. This was a great place to stay that I recommend.

We had the pleasure of staying at this hotel recently where we combined a great ski holiday with our wedding which was organised by the hotel. We can't thank Sabine, the Horl family and all their staff enough for making our stay and wedding day perfect. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. Our room was fabulous and the meals were all great with large portions. The hotel allowed us to leave our own skis and boots at the sports shop next to where the ski buses left which was so convenient. On our last day we booked the Gondola breakfast which the hotel provides at City Xpress. It was a wonderful experience and a great way to complete our holiday/ honeymoon. Thank you again to the owners and staff of Romantik Hotel .

We went with Inghams and had a wonderful holiday as non skiiers , sightseeing trip as we are 80 . The hotel is a delight , family run , exceptionally clean with helpful friendly staff who have no difficulty with English . The ambiance is authentic of a chalet type old hotel which has a cosy atmosphere in the lounge area with a log fire . We were upgraded from a Garden suite ( which is an annex ) to a Pinzgauerin room on the 1st floor . It was twin bedded with very comfortable beds and pine clad walls, tea making a little balcony ( no view ~) plenty of storage space , a bathroom with separate mini sauna , spacious shower , wc with a hand held bidet shower. The floor was heated too. We found the bedroom too warm at night so opened the balcony doors which could tip inwards . The only issue was the wash basin had a design fault in the plug arrangement which didn't retain the water . However if one inverted the plug and detached the top it acted as a perfect fit .See images . The room was refurbished 2 years ago and the management will fix this minor issue . The meals were really good especially the breakfast with everything that one could want . a toaster , croissants , fruit , cereals , eggs , a staff member doing omelettes and scrambled eggs, a egg boiler , a full selection of cold meats, . The evening meals had a choice of either meat , vegetarian, or fish . a fixed starter , buffet of green salads , soups , dessert , cheeses and fresh fruit . I think we counted it was possible to have 7 courses . There is a drinking fountain in the buffet area for free water if one doesn't wish it to be served which is € 1.50 . There is wine by the glass or bottle . A special mention to Sophie and Victoria as staff. There is a small indoor swimming pool which one can swim out into the garden , heated and a jacuzzi. Plus sauna rooms which can be textile or nude . dressing gowns , slippers and towels are proved for free .I noticed there were several steps up from the front entrance and down into the lounge area so not really wheel chair friendly. I think this hotel is exceptional .

Right in the heart of the lively and picturesque resort of Zell, this authentic family run hotel is a must for those who want traditional high end Austrian 4 star service and superior cuisine. Run by Werner Horl and his wife, their hard working team provide exemplary service. Of particular note were the vegetarian menu options. All too often in Austria, the 'meat free' option tends to be an uninspiring poor relation. But not here. Every evening there was a meat, fish and vegetarian option, and it was really hard to decide which two dishes I was going to not have! The spa and sauna facilities are first class. There's a' costumes and trunks' option for the modest Brits, and a 'let it all out' option downstairs if you want to do saunas the proper Austrian way. If you can stand the 90 degree 'Devils' sauna for more than 10 mins I'll take my hat off to ta!

A beautiful traditional hotel run by generations of the family who have mastered the art of making guests feel entirely at home and comfortable. The food, from breakfast to dinner is first rate, as are the staff attentive and helpful. We were staying half board skiing so our routine breakfast from the numerous options at 7:30 with the morning update newsletter, weather and local info and then back for soup and cake at 4:00pm and on to the spa for an indoors/outdoor swim and sauna and then dinner from 6:30pm - always at the same table which is reserved just for you for every meal. Then retire into the comfortable bar lounge area by the fire which feels much like a chalet for a few drinks. Absolutely fantastic hotel, lovely bars very close .. a few minutes to the lake for great walks and 5 min walk to the many various buses to the lifts or take the city express.

We stayed here for 2 nights on honeymoon. The hotel is very pleasant from the outside, and is very well located. The woman who greeted us was very pleasant as well as the bar staff. We arrived at our room and were slightly taken aback by the gigantic picture of William and Kate, strange to say the least! It is an enormous poster of the royals, and they will stare at you for the duration of your stay. But more concerning was the smell of sewage in the room that greeted us. We opened the bathroom window and came back a while later but the smell was much worse. We went to reception and the girl there said we would have to come back later to ask for the manager. I asked if they had this problem previously and she said yes, the room next door has an ongoing issue but the manager would be able to resolve it. The manager came back and sent a cleaner to the room who poured liquid into the drain. The smell improved but was not gone. We were told there was no other room to move to. Unable to use the room while it smelled, we left to walk around the town. The room smelled better so we stayed that night, but by the next evening it was stinking again. We went to the reception and were told there was no manager but a man working there told us to stay in an adjoining room as it was free. The entire trip was very stressful due to not being able to enjoy the room. At no point prior to check out did any member of staff even apologise for the experience. I got the very distinct impression that the manager didn’t believe that there was a problem at all, and she denied there ever was a problem with rooms smelling before, even though her staff told me there was and I have since seen reviews of the hotel that mention the same issue. It is laughable that this hotel is a 4 star hotel - there isn’t even air con in the rooms so if you’re coming in summer, good luck! The most helpful member of the management team is a very affectionate cat and is the only member of management who will give you a warm welcome, especially if you have a complaint. As “compensation” for our trouble, the manager comped 2 drinks, and still had the cheek to as us for €8.20 city tax. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

So lucky to have found this Austrian owned family hotel. Charming in every way, with the warmest of welcomes from the family & team. Christmas was special in every way, a visit from a local choir, a welcome drink round the Christmas tree & carols, making all nationalities feel special. A Gala dinner followed it, the quality was what you would find in a 5 star restaurant served with the biggest smile & charm. All the food is of high quality breakfast has everything you can think of & more, home made cakes served between 4-5 was added treat. The bedrooms are lovely each with their own style, the beds are so comfortable, everything spotless. We met lovely guests some who had been here before like us. A log fire was a cosy place to enjoy a drink after dinner, lively if you want or just relaxing with friends. There is a super Spa with pools, saunas, steam rooms. Massage can be had to help those ski muscles. Perfect position to get to the Ski slopes or the lake. Good for everything you will need to enjoy the perfect holiday. Enjoy your holiday to Paradise you will not be disappointed. Thanks to all for your smiles & taking care of us so well

Just back from six fun packed days of skiing. The hotel reception is warm and welcoming. The reception staff are very helpful and always greeted you with a smile. This is a typical Austrian styled hotel and the bar area was cosy and a comfortable place to have the afternoon treats. One day it was goulash soup ( the best I have ever tasted ). The barman was attentive and on the first day my daughter had ordered a drink that she turned out not to like. He promptly returned with one of his own concoctions and it hit the spot. The hotel was always warm and anything that needed dried after a days skiing would dry quickly in your room. Great location and the town of Zel am See is very picturesque with only a short walk up to the CitiXpress lift and we rented our skis from the Hervis shop, just around the corner. What did spoil our experience was the attitude and behaviour of one of the waiting staff. He didn't wear a name badge, so I am guessing he was one of the senior members of the team. I would describe him as heavy set with grey hair. From the night of our first dinner when taking the drinks order, I asked for a 1/2 litre carafe of the house white wine. He then tried to recommend the bottles of wine and that it was only a couple of euros more. ( a bottle costing 32€) I asked him how much was the 1/2 litre carafe, and again he mumbled that it was only a few € less than the bottle and that if we didn't finish the bottle that it could be held over for the next night. ( I am on holiday and there is a little chance there would be any wine left at a table with 4 adults ) At this stage he was getting agitated and it was clear that he was avoiding the question, so we told him to just bring the carafe. I don't like it when someone is trying a hard sell. ( turned out the carafe was €10.80) Well from that moment on, he acted with contempt when serving us. Most nights ignoring us. ( the best nights service we got was when it was his night off ). There was one table with two large families sitting together and they would regularly order bottles of wine for their table. He nearly fell over himself tending to their table. (was he on commission for selling wine, or angling for a big tip, or both ?) At the start I had thought it was just our table being ignored. But as the days progressed, others tables got the same treatment. ( complaints had been made the reception ) One table being ignored for over 45 minutes while tables beside them served. He served another couple a glass of wine and shoved the bottle back into the wine cooler sending ice and water over the table. No apology, he just kicked the ice under the table. When he served and you were on the far side of the table he would hand you the hot plate. He set the plate in front of my wife, hitting her glass of water and good whack with no apology and his whole body language was one of he really didn't want to be there. I left a good tip for housekeeping and for the first time ever, the onl
