Waggon and Horses

The site is a bit far away from train station but kind of close to the city centre with only 15 mins walk. The staff and services there were great, the breakfast was luxurious and delicious. Just there were some stains on the pillow cover, and the temperature of bath cannot be adjust accurately. The water was either too cold or too hot.

Stayed here for a Gig at the Barbican and were pleasantly surprised by how nice it was for the price. Room was nice and clean, tea and coffee (decaf as well) were available and biscuits. Bar was very cosy and traditional and the staff were pleasant. Breakfast was another nice surprise, really nice (bacon a little undercooked) definitely kept us going. There is some parking but it's tight and you may asked to leave your keys as cars do tend to get blocked in, but so close to everything this is quite a bonus. Would definitely visit again.

On arrival we were assisted by a lovely young woman. She’s was very helpful, took us to our room and explained the key/door arrangement. The pub operates fairly restrictive opening hours , so you have to let yourself in and out. We were in a back room, No 2. Outside the window is a very noisy pump of some description. It’s a difficult one, the condensation in the room was bad even with the window open. So closing the window to reduce the noise isn’t really an option. Also, there was a very over powering air freshener in the room . I suspect if you close the window , an unpleasant smell would be about, else why have such an overpowering air freshener? The room feels as you would expect, old , unclean etc. Now I should first explain I am a tad nervous of hotel rooms, I always work on the principle they are dirty hahah. I generally wash the cups with boiled water before I use, I take my own pillow when possible, at least my own pillowcase etc. We had only booked this because it was close to the marathon start line. At the bottom of the bed is a fabric covered pink long stool. It’s very dirty in the decorative button area. The bathroom is simply dirty, but the shower head pipe was filthy. The mould came off to the touch. I had wet wipes so set about cleaning it. I also cleaned the door handles and the dirty door around the handle. I so regret not taking photos!! Because I’m odd about hotel rooms and because our expectations were low, we’d gone very prepared. We had taken cups, bowls etc, we were doing the marathon, so the locations was the important thing, the only reason we stayed. We just needed a bed. In fairness the bed was comfortable enough. Once cleaned the shower had brilliant water pressure, which made the filth even harder to understand. We appreciated the water on the room and the biscuits. We didn’t use the cups but I did take a photo, the dirty is hard to believe!

A pub I always look forward to visiting on any holiday I take to York is The Waggon & Horses Pub ,been here before on many occasions, always had a good time and so it proved on our latest visit to here. A great looking pub,interior is superb, very traditional York style, multi roomed, a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room, pubby decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its just a really good pub to unwind in. We were here on a beautiful but bitterly cold March afternoon, pub was busy with a great atmosphere, we had a study of their beer range which I must say I was impressed with and in the end we both opted to have pale ale's from Ossett Brewery, these were served in excellent condition, we chilled out and planned out the day ahead while sipping our pale ale's. My pale ale was really good, golden in colour, crisp in taste, hoppy, hints of toffee, a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a smooth finish, a classic British pale ale served in a classic British pub, its hardly surprising that this pub is so popular with ale's served in this good a condition by staff who are genuinely pleased to see you in their pub. We both really enjoyed our pale ale's in The Waggon & Horses Pub ,couldn't fault anything about our visit here before we moved on, can't wait to go again next time we're in York hopefully very soon. The Waggon & Horses Pub is easy to locate along Lawrence Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Saturday, 3pm till 11.30pm. Sunday, 3pm till 11pm. A great pub,one I highly recommend you seek out if you're in the area or planning a holiday to York.

We stayed here for a night whilst visiting York. Only 10 minutes walk from the city, so very handy to pop back to for a rest. The twin room was perfect for us with comfy chairs, tea and coffee making facilities and a hairdryer. We were concerned it would be noisy but it wasn’t and the beds were comfortable. We both slept very well. A great choice of breakfast from full English to pancakes and cereal. The staff were polite and efficient.

Lovely place to stay not far from the city walls. Lovely size room with everything you need. Breakfast was stunning. Big shout out to Karen and her team Lovely bunch of people so warm and welcoming. Will be back there to stay again.

On Lawrence street there's an amazing old world pub and guesthouse that me and my twin visited called the Wago&Horses.It's an amazing pub that offers a superb range of food and drinks and was one of the places we visited around this area. The Wago&Horses started off originally as a coaching inn and was a vital stop-off for coaches entering or leaving York.It's got a superb interior with many interesting items throughout its whole interior and plenty of good seating options and when we visited here it was very busy. We visited several pubs around this area in York and this was as good as all the other's we visited around this area.We visited here mid-afternoon and we only stayed here for a few beers.When we visited here we had a few glasses of Ossett brewery beer's which were called Polaris which were superb and were reasonably priced considering where we were and the pub we were in. This is a fantastic old world pub thats in an excellent area of York and well worth a visit if your around this area. (This is my 2nd review of the Wago&Horses) Opening Hours. Monday-Sunday-Don't Know.

Just spent 3 nights at the Waggon and Horses and would reccomend it to anybody. It's a traditional pub with a selection of rooms and breakfast is included. Everybody is so friendly and welcoming, drinks are reasonably priced and it's a 15 minute stroll into the town centre. We have already booked for next year.
