Hotel New Grand

Yokohama|0.9km from Ishikawachō Station
It’s been over a year since our family of four travelled to Yokohama due to COVID. We were quite impressed with the lobby and friendly service upon arrival. Check-in at 2pm is nice and allows time to check out the city and eat your way through Chinatown (couple minutes walk!). It was our children’s nap time so we got settled into the room. In Japan there are hotels at which the a/c only blows warm/hot air during the winter months. We’ve been through this once before at a hotel in Karuizawa and had a horrible night’s sleep. After almost 2 hours of not being able to nap and the kids getting cranky due to the heated stuffiness of the room, we decided to just check out, cut our trip short to return home, and likely eat the cost of the room. However upon hearing of our wish to check out, the front desk was more than accommodating and offered two separate rooms to choose from - both with actual cool air conditioning. Deputy Director Mr. Takaki Seto especially was beyond helpful and understanding of the need for our two small children to be comfortable. The new room was perfect and the a/c worked great. After the nice stay on the day of check-out, we were about to leave our room, but my wife discovered she had misplaced a very important sentimental ring. We spent an hour looking in the room for it to no avail. Our son had the brilliant idea to check the other room we were in for the two hours the day before. Mr. Takaki Seto not only let us back in the room but personally helped us search for 20 minutes. When we couldn’t find it, he called the front desk to check if the cleaning staff had found anything. They had! Only in Japan. The irreplaceable ring was returned. We gave our effusive apologies to Mr. Takaki Seto for his troubles yet he apologized for our worry. His kindness was amazing and we thank him again. Can’t say enough great things about the quality of hotel and the superb location. More importantly, the staff went well above and beyond. 5/5 and would definitely recommend!

It takes about 7 minutes to walk from Ishikawacho Station. There is a supermarket at the exit of the station. The restaurant is in Chinatown. You can also walk to see the Gundam. It takes about 15 minutes to walk. It was not three o’clock when we arrived. The lady at the counter told us Store your luggage and go shopping first. The hotel room is not big, but it’s no problem to open a large suitcase. Unfortunately, the TV in the room can only watch Japanese channels. It would be better if you can watch youtube, but you can pay 1,000 yen to watch movies. There are two washing machines and two dryers on the first floor. It costs 300 yen to wash clothes once, and 100 yen to dry them for half an hour. You can buy a pack of washing powder at the counter for 50 yen, but I don’t think it’s easy to use. It’s recommended to go to the supermarket to buy it. The restaurant does not have it Provide water or women's skin care products (with facial cleanser). Overall, the equipment is very simple, but the price is really favorable, and the cp value is very high

The Regency Club staff at this hotel are some of the best in the industry. Staff that made our 15 night stay feel like home: Shoko, Risako, Chiaki, Shelley, Futoshi, Bianca, Mizuki, Hsegawa and some others but unfortunately I didn't get their names. They helped me with all me needs and questions including helping me with reservations and travel plans. They all speak English and are super patient with families. The rooms are super clean and modern. Housekeeping is amazing and made sure our baby diaper pail was changed each day and every inch of our room was clean. I opted for a suite which had an amazing bathroom with a super big tub. The blinds are automatic and the views are great. Breakfast buffet had so many choices and was so good. Hotel is 2 blocks from an amazing waterfront park and a 10 minute walk to Yokohama Stadium. 5 minute walk to Chinatown as well. The train is also less than a 5 minute walk and there is a 24 hour Lawson right across the street. Oh yea, a really special thanks to the bell-woman who waited with my luggage across the street in front of Lawson with the taxi while I ran back to my room after realizing I forgot my phone in the room after checking out.

The hardware of the hotel is relatively old, and I gave full marks for everything else, mainly due to the high recognition of hotel services. Japan's hotel management services are indeed the first in the world. All the staff I encountered in the hotel were very dedicated, especially the hotel's female lobby manager, who solved all the problems for us enthusiastically and meticulously. It's a pity that I didn't remember her name tag, but only remembered her short hair, with a very elegant temperament.

The hotel is located in Chinatown. It is quite easy to find and it is convenient to eat. A free cup of drink is provided upon check-in. The owner is also very kind. The bathroom and toilet are very close to the bedroom, which is quite troublesome. The sofa in the rest place is very comfortable. You can read the magazines in the office. The boss has marked the time and transportation methods required to go to nearby stations and attractions. Still very good.

Objectively speaking, this hotel is an apartment-style hotel, not a hotel in the true sense. It is about ten minutes walk from the station and close to Chinatown, but it is far from the city center. It is necessary to transfer from Tokyo to Yokohama. 3 stops to Ishikawacho Station. We just checked in in late April. We made bunk beds (out of curiosity, we want to experience the rare rack beds in Japanese hotels). The rooms are small, but the furniture and other facilities are new, clean and tidy. not bad. However, it should be noted that the restrooms and washrooms are public. The whole floor was the only one of us at the time we moved in. Washing did not affect it. If there are more people in the future, it will definitely be inconvenient to wash. What surprised us was that we had to take a bath separately. Charges are 300 yen for small rooms for 5 minutes, and 500 yen for large rooms for 7 minutes. Bath towels are charged separately. These conditions are different from other hotels and the hotel did not explain in advance. If you want to move in, you need to consider these factors.

The toilet floor is a bit dirty and cannot be wiped off. Then the toilet is too big and the suitcase can't be placed in the area near the bed. There is something wrong with the design. There is no small shelf for luggage. In Tokyo, the same Samsung one with over 400 is better than this one.
