This is a small inn run by an elderly couple. They have their own hot spring, which I didn't have time to try. It's located at the very top of Shibu Onsen, a bit of a walk from the station and dining options. The inn has a very traditional Japanese style, with tatami mats and an old-fashioned feel. The communal bath faces the back mountain, perfect for just relaxing and zoning out. It's a great spot for families with both young children and seniors.

This ryokan is the furthest from Main Street. But I love the hospitality from the owner and the authenticity of this place. There is a private onsen available in the ryokan, just need to pre register. They provide access to shibu onsen as well. Recommended to book your dinner with them. Restaurants in shibu onsen either close very early or not open regularly. We missed our dinner, but the owner is kind enough to prepare a simple oyakudon for us. Though this place is at the beginning of forest trail to snow monkey park. But it is close during winter. Just take note.

I had a wonderful stay at Amagawaso in Shibu Onsen. The ryokan is run by an elderly couple who don’t speak English, but they were incredibly sweet and welcoming. With the help of Google Translate, communication was easy enough and actually added to the charm of the experience. They provided yukata and geta for exploring the town, as well as the key that gives access to the nine public onsens in Shibu — an amazing and unique experience. On top of that, the ryokan offers a free 40-minute private onsen session, which was a lovely touch. Our room was very spacious, and shortly after we arrived, the hostess came in to prepare complimentary matcha tea for us. She also gifted us steamed buns filled with red bean paste, which felt incredibly thoughtful. The location is also very convenient for visiting the Snow Monkey Park, making it an excellent base for exploring the area. Overall, the hospitality was genuine, the onsen experience was fantastic, and the atmosphere felt authentically traditional. Highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Shibu Onsen or planning a trip to see the snow monkeys.

Extremely cozy ryokan at the edge of the town. Perfect place to chill for a couple of days. The dinner was magnificent and worth to skip a lunch so you can appreciate it more. Private onsen you can book at daily listing was really nice. Was not too impressed by the towns public ones in the town that you can visit with a key provided by the ryokan. Public number 9 was probably the best and it also has a sauna.

A very traditional Japanese inn run by an elderly couple and their granddaughter. The onsen is warm and incredibly cozy. They offer two options: a private bath and a shared one (reserved for hotel guests only, with separate areas for men and women). They even lent us umbrellas so we could go to the Monkey Park, which was such a thoughtful touch.

Good hotel, with a nice atmosphere, but the private outdoor onsen was really cold, and the shower in the women's onsen wasn't working.
