Driving home to Colorado from North Carolina after attending my son's high school graduation, I booked a hotel at the Fairfield inn in Fairmont West Virginia through Marriott's website.   A couple of days prior I called to ask about any deposits and to make sure that my Marriott gift card will be accepted.   The lady I spoke to, whose name I regrettably did not take note of having not foreseen this whole chaotic situation, confirmed that my gift card will be accepted and that because the reservation was made directly through Marriott and not through a third party booking website No deposit will be required.   Now whether that is true and correct or not, that is for your employee to know.  Thursday June 14th, I check in and the lady says I need to provide my card to check me in but that the charge for the room will be on my gift card.   She did not say anything about being charged $140. It is true that perhaps this is only temporary hold and not an actual charge, But you need to understand that those funds that were held from my account are funds for gas and food.   I am traveling with my children ages seven and eight, We are still 1,000 miles away from home, I have another reservation at a Fairfield Hotel for tonight, I have $153 in my bank account available. As we speak I do not know how I am going to get home or check in at the next hotel.   I called the manager of the Fairfield inn in Fairmont and they could not do anything for me. I spoke to Rose who introduced herself as the Assistant General Manager of the Fairfield inn at Fairmont West Virginia.   She apologized and said that there's nothing she can do. I said that that is unacceptable because like I said I am traveling with my children and if this is not fixed I am going to be on the road stranded with them with no gas or food. I asked to speak to the General Manager.   Rose said that the General Manager is currently in a meeting and that she will be available at 1:00 p.m. Rose asking for my phone number and said that the General Manager will call me back. At 1:55 p.m. I have still not heard anything from them. I called and Rose says that her boss is at a conference in Virginia.   I reminded her that she had told me that I will get a call from the general manager at 1:00. She then clarifies and says she said that it was her, Rose, who was going to call me back. Either way no one called me back at 1:00 p.m.  I asked if they could at least talk to the next hotel since it's another Fairfield inn to see if they would let me check in and not take a deposit perhaps transfer my deposit from Fairmont to the next location.   She says it cannot be done because they are two different companies -which is not true because again it is another Fairfield Inn. She continues to explain that she does not see that I was charged $140. I offered to give her a screenshot of it and I said I will email it to her immediately. Great overnight stay.  Fast, friendly check-in.  Good sleep, quiet location. No complaints. Everything worked as it should. Friendly breakfast staff.  Close to food, gas and shopping. Met my Fairfield expectations unlike some locations that can be a bit older and in need of a refresh. Would stay again.
