Booked this hotel as a last minute trip. We arrived and immediately thought what the hell. Not sure why people think that filling a hotel with tat is quirky, but each to their own. We complained about the room politely upon arrival then it went downhill. We did admittedly come home late (12pm) and after a few drinks it was hysterical coming up the stairs being greeted by the most obnoxious scary stuff including stuffed animals and a doll that would give Annabelle and Chucky a fright. The owner was looking for any reason to have a go at us. She marched into the room screaming that we were rude for coming in at midnight drunk and disturbing the rude guests next door who quite honestly looked like they needed a good drink themselves. She told us that she had phoned the police and that she wanted us to leave to which we replied that we would wait for them as we would like to speak to them as she had entered the room when I specifically told her I was naked. The owner was also livid that we hadn’t even had a drink in the bar or tried to have a conversation with the staff to which we replied that we didn’t want to spend any time here because it was absolutely filthy. We were charged nearly £600 for 3 nights with no breakfast and the complimentary coffee and tea wasn’t replenished. I presume this was our punishment for complaining. Our empty cups and milk bottles weren’t removed so I had to carry them down myself. The owner was so offended that we had complained about the room and took it completely personally telling us she didn’t trust us around the antiques (they are not antiques). My partner had jokingly moved something from the reception to our room and she treated us like we had committed the crime of the century. Our complaint was entirely legitimate and justified. The sink was cracked, the light shade was held together with cable ties and we found hair under the bed. It was dusty, cobwebs everywhere and the decor was shocking it felt like we were waiting to be sacrificed. Extremely overpriced especially as the rooms have shabby floorboards and the stairs carpet is atrocious. The owner is extremely delusional and blinkered about the state of her hotel. Popped in recently for afternoon cakes and tea . Our cakes were fresh and the bill not expensive. Very friendly service with wonderful and quirky themed rooms which added to our experience. Well worth a visit in a great seaside town . Highly recommended.

2nd time in this beautiful hotel. Stayed in Stoker room having already stayed in La Rosa. Views over Abbey and the bay are stunning. Loved the continental breakfast served on afternoon tea plates which we took in the downstairs tea room. Cocktails ....well Turkish Rose is my fave. Sitting in the relaxing lounge after a long day taking in Whitbys sights sipping a cocktail with muted music playing in the background is just bliss. Staff and owners so friendly. Hope to be back next year

The La Rosa is an awesome quirky, individual hotel. If you want corporate blandness avoid at all costs. If you want to be treated as an individual and like something different this is the place to be in Whitby. The staff are awesome and love a chat in the bar over one of their amazing cocktails. Special mention to Brodie who was great company in the bar. We stopped in the sacre coeur which is a lovely room with a great view of the Abbey. The room has a bath and lots of French inspired nick nacks on display. The heating was very hot in the room so don't worry if visiting in Winter. The whole hotel is an individual mix with a 20's kind of vibe, which is very relaxing - leave the corporate modern world behind for a bit and enjoy!

Booked Sacre Coeur for 2 nights and very happy with choice. Definitely a room with a view. Very comfortable bed and slept really well. Friendly hosts. Great cocktails with board games to borrow. Played scrabble and it was a draw. Very dog friendly and Pablo the Pug came with us. Hotel is very close to the beach close to all the best fish and chips.

A fabulous weekend at La Rosa. All the staff were unbelievably amazing. Brody in particular was an excellent host as we spent a few hours in the Cocktail Library. The Arabesque Room wasso cosy and the bed was so comfortable, we didn't want to get up! Breakfast in our room was a lovely touch. The hotel is eco-friendly minimising their use of plastics. The toiletries in the room were beautiful (hand made soap) The attention detail to everything the hotel does sets it apart from anywhere else we've stayed. We will definitely be celebrating our anniversary here again next year 💖

This is our 2nd time staying. This time we stayed in the Little Red Room. Each antique fits the theme of the room. Each room is individually themed. Breakfast is continental, and you can have it delivered to your room or enjoy it in the fabulous tea room. In the evening you have the Vintage Themed Bar Room. Cocktails are available as well as local ales and beers. During the day the tea room and bar are open to the public with delicious homemade cakes. Helen and her amazing team looked after us and were so helpful with my partner who is blind.

Deliriously happy to be back yet again at our favourite hotel in Whitby for another legendary WGW…Whitby Goth Weekend. La Rosa is a small hotel with a big reputation. Family run, by dearest Helen, Rob and doggie John who often gets called Rob and vice versa, the La Rosa Family and staff always make us feel so warmly welcomed. If you prefer bland, corporate conformity then stay away! But if you hanker after magic, escapism and phantasmagoria, this is the place for you! The rooms are a creative delight. All so individually curated. This place has an enchanted history and certainly lives up to it. Lewis Carroll of “Alice In Wonderland “ fame was a frequent guest. Many of the rooms have spectacular views of the sea , Whitby Abbey and the 199 Steps. There is also a tea parlour for guests and non-guests and cakes to die for. You can have breakfast in your room or in the parlour and you can park up on a disc just outside or nearby. There is also an exotic back parlour for guests with a tantalising cocktail menu . Looking forward to “Many Happy Returns” Goth Weekend or any time of the year at the exceptional La Rosa!

Quiet, comfortable, warm, excellent views, helpful and friendly staff, imaginative and fun decor, conveniently situated. Only complaint was a badly cracked wash basin. BUT a beautiful, spacious bath.
