Kauri Villas

Parua Bay|8.33km from Mount Manaia Walking Track
After a day of hitting some art spots at Whangārei, our family of two adults and a teen pulled into the Kauri Villas late in the afternoon. The first thing you'll notice is the amazing view of the coast. We were greeted by out hosts Andrea and Mike, and shown to our cottage, which was cute and clean. It was a Monday, and our hosts informed us that most of the local restaurants would be closed (it was also the off-season). Luckily, the cottage had a fully equipped kitchen, and the nearest grocery was 2 minutes down the road. The cottage even had a dishwasher, a real gem for any traveling cooks. That evening we helped ourselves to a hot tub/ jacuzzi and played some billiards in their ”gameroom,” which is really more of a beautiful bespoke barn with a sound system, nice lighting, and everything from ping pong to video games. We had a perfect family game night without leaving the property. We started off our first morning with a great breakfast cooked by Mike, and then used the villas as our home-base for hitting some of the great local hikes. On our second and last morning, we mentioned to Mike our fondness for the sheep that we could see from our bedroom window, and Mike offered to let us hand-feed them! As animal lovers, it as a treat to hand feed some adorable sheep that put up with us petting them. As travelers from the USA, a return to the Kauri Villas is probably not in the cards any time soon, but I would highly recommend this spot for both a quick vacation, or special event like a wedding where you want a fantastic location to celebrate. Great space, great hosts.
