2 Star Hotels in Wausau

As we were traveling with no plans we found this hotel via google maps. Called in for reservations and got in easily for a king nom smoking. The pool was not too cold and the hot tub was good as well although I think the jets could have been stronger. Clean room with the only problem I had was the blackout curtain did not reach the edge so the light came directly in so I had to sleep at the end of the bed. Bathroom way small

The hotel is in a good location by Highway 51 and 29. Breakfast was good and had good hot and cold options. Breakfast area is split up between the lobby, but it works ok. Room was clean, although there was a lingering disinfectant smell in the room. Didn't need to interact with the staff so not sure if they were friendly or not. We'll just assume that they were friendly. Housekeeping started at 7 am, which was quite early to start vacuuming. Had an issue with the digital key both at night and the next morning, but I wouldn't put the blame on the hotel for that.

While staying at the hotel enjoy such amenities as free High Speed Wireless Internet coffee makers 27 inch TVs with Cable and premium channels and refrigerators in all rooms. Recently we have remodeled all our rooms with new pillow top mattress new case goods and new tiles in all our bathrooms. Pets allowed dogs only with a fee of 15 USD per night non refundable.

Room was clean but starting to look a bit retro (and not in a good way). Complementary internet was very slow, unusable really. I'm not talking about streaming, just loading simple web pages. I ended up turning off my device wi-fi and using cell signal. Not sure if router coverage is poor or if they're dialing back speed to get guests to purchase the upgrade. Either way it isn't acceptable to me. Morning coffee: One packet for the in-room brewer and no complementary service in the lobby. I don't care about ”free” breakfast, in fact I prefer hotels without (no hockey teams staying there!), but a pot of coffee and hot water for tea doesn't seem like an unreasonable expectation. Road noise on the west side is quite noticeable, except when the loud heating system kicks in. I would have rated this hotel average if it were an average-priced property (a Fairfield, for example), but it's not. The rate was just north of $2 Benjamins per night even though occupancy was sparse. I recognize the pandemic has been hard on the hospitality industry, but cutting back on upkeep and services isn't a good way to get my return business.
