Good place and location; the bed was super comfortable. The only issue was the WiFi was super slow.

The room was clean enough. I mean, I rented a hotel room for $95 a night. Wasn't expecting 5 star. I did have an occurrence where my room key card didn't work when I arrived back at my room at 10:30pm. Thankfully they had a ring doorbell at the office and I was able to get a person there (they had to take cab back in...) after waiting about 20 minutes or so outside. Glad I didn't have to use the restroom! The hotel is fine for the money, but I will say this... they have some sketchy people staying there. One night the police were called to a room a few doors down. Definitely some shady people stay there. There are better options in Vernal.

While at first glance, the room looks okay but looks can be deceiving. I took quite a few photos to show what I mean. There were some hairs on the floor so I damped a piece of tissue, wiped up the hair and NO MORE than 2“ of floor and the tissue was filthy. Bring flip flops or alternate slippers. I then opened the mini fridge only to find a red spill on the bottom and a bowl of unknown substance. See photos. You’d think that management would at least check the rooms before letting guests in. Check your room before you agree to it. Continental breakfast included a very large jar of peanut butter and vat of vegetable oil margarine that anyone and everyone can dip into. Not too sanitary. Bring your own P.B. and butter. There were Hot Pockets in the fridge, strange. When I asked about the unclean conditions, I was told they just can’t get employees. Maybe check what’s ‘cleaned’. There are insufficient window coverings to keep the bright outdoor lights from hitting me in the face through the night and when I wanted morning light, I risked people looking right through my window, which one guy not only glanced in, he stopped and full on stared into my room. Very daunting. Maybe some kind of curtain or screen option in addition to the blind? Also, the bedside lamp only came on with the bright overhead light. No way to use only the lamp for a less bright option. There was no hair dryer. I didn’t dare sit on the couch or touch the TV remote before sanitizing everything. I know, you get what you pay for, but the charge was way overpriced for what I got. The TV was nice, the front desk employees were nice. Otherwise it would be a negative 5 stars. I will definitely not stay at The Sage again.

Let me start by saying that the staff was super nice, helpful and professional. While this is a budget hotel and there were some good things, the few bad things kind of killed the positives. The bed was terrible. A low end, old budget mattress that the put a 2" soft foam "topper" on. This only served to fold up and it felt like sleeping in a hammock. Other things were smaller issues, like no shelf or anything like that in the shower (so everything needed to sit on the shower floor) and some minor repairs needed to be done. However, they did make an obvious effort to modernize the rooms and it was very clean. The show itself was new, there were outlets available to plug things into and it had modern hard flooring. If it were not for the bed, I'd increase a star but let's face it, the bed is one of the most important parts of the hotel room. The staff is what keeps it up to 3 stars (otherwise it would be 2).

Summary: Didn't feel clean, people outside my room smoking, no privacy The lady at check-in was very nice, but this place is too run-down for my tastes. I don't mind 2-star hotels at all. I can go basic. But some things you don't want to deal with on the road. Outside my second level room there were tables and chairs. Not a patio--a narrow walkway with a rail and a table and two chairs by your door. I had started unpacking in my room when I notice five people drinking beer and smoking at the tables outside my door. This is not a large space and I assumed that set up were for our room to use. People down in the parking lot were yelling to the folks up on my floor walkway outside my room, popping beers and clearly the group all arrived together (and were ready to party). If I went inside, I had to pull the windowshade down to avoid seeing their backsides as they hung over the railing flicking their smokes, calling down to their friends. Speaking of the window--if you want any light from outside, nope. There's no privacy curtain, just an old roller shade that kept flipping up. The bed was comfy. I was afraid of the linens though and slept in my clothes. Good AC. Wore socks on the carpet and flip-flops in the bath. Sidebar: As I was walking into the room unpacking my car I saw a couple cleaning the room next to mine. I know they are hard workers and it was hot, but the pail of water the mop was in looked so dirty. Although this motel sells itself as being centrally located, I didn't feel safe walking to dinner. Seedy. Shabby. Potentially unsafe. Find something else, expecially if you're traveling solo.

Room was clean. Good shower. Friendly staff. TV channel selection was weird. Got some premium channels like HBO, but basic cable channels were mostly not available.

Room was clean - limited TV channels - located on a noisy part of Main street - Okay room for the money - not the Ritz for sure - outside needs paint and other work.

The Sage Motel is an older property, and I gave it high dcores because the problems were outside the control of the innkeepers. Literally. There is a lot of noise. Most of it comes from being on the main highway, with no buffers. We fixed it by turning on the AC. The other noise comes from other guests (I think) sitting outside the rooms, not necessarily in front of the room. I don't think the people were sketchy; just tired and dirty from exploring Dinosaur National Park or other high desert activities. Lots of restaurants nearby, and it shows that the town of Vernal has put a lot of effort into redevelopment. Room itself was old but renovated. The bed was super cute. Frontier meets four poster. Just a lot of limitations on what can be done. Breakfast was good and basic.
