Hotel Amadeus

Terrible review! They discriminate against solo travelers and Chinese guests! And they shortchange you! I paid for this stay entirely out of pocket. I booked and paid for a standard king room, but upon check-in, I was assigned a terrible room in the main building. The entire main building is over 150 years old, and the room they gave me was small and dim, clearly a former servant's quarter. The shower area in the bathroom was less than one square meter, making the space cramped and oppressive. On the day I checked in, I saw the hotel's entire room layout on the fire escape plan by the back door in the hallway. It was clear as day that there were many larger rooms available in the same price range, yet the hotel deliberately assigned me the smallest one in the main building. After some communication and negotiation, the hotel moved me to another room in the main building the next day. It was a slight improvement from the first day, but still one of the smaller rooms in the main building. They consistently refused to provide a standard room that matched the price I paid. Later, when the hotel collected the city tax, they insisted on cash only and refused card payments. After paying, I was supposed to get 6.5 Euros in change, but they only gave me 3.5 Euros. This was also the first time I encountered coins on my trip, so I didn't count them carefully and just put them in my pocket. It wasn't until I took out the tax receipt on my way that I realized they had deliberately shortchanged me by 3 Euros. Since I had to catch a train, I didn't have time to go back and dispute it. For an old hotel with over a hundred years of history to resort to shady practices with change is truly disappointing. The entire stay was extremely poor.

The hotel is very close to the pier near the train station, so you don't have to drag your luggage too far on the cobblestone streets. There are also supermarkets and restaurants nearby. I was pleasantly surprised to get the only room with a small balcony this time. Breakfast was simple but perfectly fine.

The room was decent, but the power outlets were Italian standard, which was a bit inconvenient. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Just a heads-up, make sure you have cash for the city tax on your last day. The location is great, only a five-minute walk from the train station.

The biggest advantage of this hotel is its superb location! It's very close to the train station, so you can step right out and explore tourist attractions. The room cleanliness was decent, but the staff weren't very friendly. I wouldn't particularly recommend it.

Beyond the great location, honestly, everything else was pretty disappointing. The hotel offers a taxi service to the airport for 70 Euros... The room was genuinely tiny, too small, and incredibly hot. The heat made me dizzy. My friend came to visit and also commented on how ridiculously hot it was. The staff kept knocking on my door. I asked them not to knock for a bit and to come back later, but they still knocked 3 to 5 more times. The only real highlight was the friendly and handsome young man at the front desk when I checked in on the first day. He was so gentle and helped me open wine and find cutlery. I didn't take photos of the room because it was so small. But on my way out, I discovered a spacious back garden and took some pictures of that. Pictures 3 and 4 show the room service breakfast and the on-site buffet breakfast. At this hotel, whatever you do, do NOT choose room service for breakfast. It's just a few pieces of bread, and it's outrageously overpriced! I felt like a total sucker! Just walk downstairs and eat the buffet – it's actually decent.

The room was great, the location was very convenient, and the breakfast was delicious.
