Hotel Orion

Venice is expensive, so one must temper one's expectations if you don't want to spend a fortune on a hotel room. Hotel Orion was a very good choice for us as we wanted to walk everywhere in Venice, are happy with a small room, and don't mind carrying our suitcases up/down 3 flights of stairs (to their credit, the staff offered to help us with that). The staff were always polite and helpful. The room was efficient and functional - but small. I appreciated that the shower didn't leak - so many hotels in Europe have showers that don't close completely and I seem to be talented at splashing water out of partially open ones! The only thing I'd improve about the room is to have a safe that's large enough for a computer.

Unfortunately,despite being well located, the rest of the experience was not a good one. Being on the third floor means carrying suit cases up and down very narrow stairs with no elevator. Damp room so beware if you're allergic to mold. No kettle or hot water for coffee or tea available. We forgot our brand new MacBook laptop charger plugged into the wall in the room next to the bathroom. After moving to a new hotel and realising it was forgotten we came back the next day to be told it was not found and that furthermore we were late checking out and so this was why we likely misplaced it. Clearly, they kept it (worth €100) and tried to shift the blame instead of just saying was not found despite being hard to miss as soon as you open the door to the small room. Terrible experience. Beware your valuables as this is a touristy hotel in a touristy area so reputation is not valuable to them, as there are always enough people looking for hotels right next to Doge's Palace .

Definitely don't be put off with the fact that this hotel is only 2 star. The staff were so friendly, nothing was too much bother for them. Rooms were clean, bed was comfy and the breakfast was excellent with plenty choice for everyone. One thing to point out. The stairs in the hotel are very steep so if you have mobility issues its definitely something to consider. The hotel is in very central position only a min from St Mark's Square, and a 6 min walk to the Rialto. There is no bar in the hotel, but there are plenty bars and restaurants right outside. I would recommend.

Handy location, close to all the shops etc. Good size room and nicely decorated. Very clean with comfortable beds. Helpful friendly staff. Really good breakfast. On the negative - no drink making facilities in the room. A shame that the lovely breakfast room, was not open during the day. I’d definitely stay again if we were to return to Venice.

Great location and friendly staff. The room was small, clean with a view over a small plaza. The staff were very friendly, plenty of choice or breakfast and even provided a bottle of wine on my wife's birthday, thank you!

This was such a cute hotel! Totally fits the vibe of Venice. Staff was very friendly and always present. There was a nice patio out back to relax at too. No elevators, so pack lightly! We were on the sixth floor walk up, and the wifi didn't reach our room, but we just sat on the patio to use that. The AC didn't work great up there either, but it was all manageable. The location is unbeatable, maybe a 2 minute walk from St. Mark's Square.
