Welcoming hosts, great location but this historical home is past its best and is in need of a bit of attention to bring it back to its former glory. The very friendly dogs are a fun addition to the mix.

This was our second stay at Royston Hall and once more it did not disappoint. The view is exquisite and we had a very restful weekend on the property, bird watching, swimming, exploring the property and enjoying the company of the dogs, which is exactly what we wanted and needed. The breakfasts were delicious and incredibly well presented... just gorgeous! Thank you for another memorable stay at a very interesting home.

This was indeed a great getaway find! A one night stay on our way to a weekend away. Such a beautiful old family home steeped in history. The room was amazing and the breakfast was presented so beautifully with a lot of attention to detail. Oh and the views are fantastic. Who knew this gem was down the road!

This spot really is a Hidden Gem ! We loved our stay - beautiful setting, view and forests ! The house is a period piece and really well decorated. The fish eagles souring overhead were the cherry on top !

Steeped in history, a very handsome homestead. Gracious, friendly, and helpful hosts, (thank you for the wifi assistance). Beautifully decorated spaces. Generous and well-presented breakfasts. The dogs were just wonderful. We even got to nap with the sausage dog, a highlight for me. Centrally located to Umtentweni and Port Shepstone. We were happy with the location. One can not easily walk to the main Port Shepstone or Shelly Beach beaches, but the property has its walks/hikes down to the river. All in all, we highly recommend Royston Hall to stay. Thank you to Ria, hubby, and your lovely staff for a very pleasant stay. Would we stay again? Definitely - room 5 next time, please :) Disliked · The only negative for us was the shower 🚿. It needs to be attended to.

Very friendly staff and a good breakfast every morning. The house is surrounded by a lovely forest, and we would go again. As it is an old house, the ceilings are high, so it's best to dress warmly in winter.

Had a wonderful stay at Royston Hall for a long birthday weekend. The room was lovely and eclectically decorated and the breakfast top-notch. We used it as a base, for 2 hikes at Oribi Gorge one day, and the other day we walked along the railway line from Roston Hall to Jaxx and whale Deck (take a small panga), then back through Tweni and got to know the area better. Last day was for a bit of shopping in Shelly Beach. Each evening it was a pleasure to return to Royston Hall and relax before visiting a local restaurant for dinner. Highly recommend it!

We booked our 4-night stay back in the UK through *********** liking the sound of its peace and quiet and proximity to the beach. It was an adventure finding the place and the drive down to it was challenging adding to the adventure. Delighted beyond expectations with the welcome we received, despite the fact that Ria had her own family staying nearby for Xmas. Clearly her guests and their comfort is her priority. Breakfasts were beautifully presented on the terrace and main course cooked to order. We had dinner nearby in Jaxx most nights. It was easy to snack at home as we had a fridge in our spacious room (suite) and a microwave was available in the "pyjama lounge". The house was open and free to walk round and we loved immersing ourselves in the Victoriana....what a change from the modern convenience and sameness found in hospitality generally. Will come back to share your beloved home another time Ria, if we get the chance.
