I truly wanted to give this property a 100% rating of excellence for its beauty, location, history, cleanliness and staff. Unfortunately for all the wonderful, lovely amenities and people that work here, it only takes one person to ruin it and they surely did. First, let me preface by saying, I am frequent traveler and also happen to be American. I have traveled enough to understand how the world works in regard to dealing with new places and finding your way in a foreign country. As someone who had been employed in the travel industry for over twenty years until recently. I have dealt with customers from around the world, I can appreciate our differences and find our common grounds, especially in regard to hospitality. I try my very best to assimilate and learn when visiting a new culture/country and embrace it whole heartedly. I am also a published a free-lance writer who has written about some of my travels. So, to be dismissed, humiliated and bullied by someone on your restaurant staff who clearly does not care for Americans, ruined my stay. I do take some comfort as the other waiters stood by, feeling sorry for me after this incident, one came over with tears in his eyes as if to say, ” I am so sorry for this.” I sat down by myself along with other guests on the second morning of our stay and was approached by a restaurant staff gentleman, wearing a jacket. I am going to assume the manager. I asked for a cappuccino and an orange juice as I saw others drinking them. His English was very good and when I asked for a cappuccino and an orange juice he said, ”No” you can have one or the other, saying very adamantly, not both. I opened the menu and saw latte, which I know is steamed milk, so I ordered a latte, then corrected myself and asked for a cafe latte instead but told him I wasn't sure what I wanted to eat yet. I was told,” No” again, that I must order everything or nothing. I have never encountered this insistence at a restaurant before. He was loud enough that others looked towards my table, listening to what he said to me. I observed by the others around me, that I was the only American dining there at that time. I hurriedly ordered an egg white omelet with tomatoes as he stood there. Although I would have appreciated more time to order, I did not want to cause an issue, I just wanted to have my cafe, but I did not argue or protest. He was speaking loud enough for others dining, when this transpired, that they glanced over, and I became even more uncomfortable. A few minutes later a hot glass of milk was placed before me by another waiter. I asked him what is this? He said Latte, I explained I asked for a cafe latte, and manager returned telling me that is what I ordered. I told him, I asked originally for a cappuccino, then changed it to a latte, then corrected myself and said no I would like a cafe latte. He turned around and left and came back with a cup of espresso which he poured into the hot glass. I tried to lift it but it was s

The hotel service is very good, the equipment is very new, and it feels safer than the other hotels in this time. The room is large, comfortable, and the location is good. It's not too far away if you drive.

Room was fine though the private bathroom being external to the room was not specified in the booking. And the key to bathroom was difficult to get into the lock. But hands down the worst customer service I’ve experienced. Receptionist when we arrived was completely disinterested and unfriendly. Not a word about the city itself. When we came back, the staircase was in darkness and door appeared to be closed, until a different receptionist heard us trying to get in with key and opened it. We had to catch a bus at 9.30am the next morning so planned to pay and leave at 8.30am. There was no one at reception, we waited for five mins thinking they’d be back from somewhere but it was clear there was no one on duty. We left the key on desk and put the room charge plus city tax inside a note and left it behind the keyboard. It was €13. We were conscious that we shouldn’t leave without paying. A couple of days later, I saw I was charged for the room on my ccard which I’d used for the booking. So I paid twice through no fault of my own. Unsurprisingly, Smart Room ignored my email message and only responded when Booking.com contacted them on my behalf. They said they never got the money...which I don’t believe. Even if someone had taken it, it’s their fault for not having someone on reception in the morning. Terrible customer service when we were staying there and afterwards. Stay away.

We liked the hotel a lot, it is a hotel with few rooms, the classic one is fair in size, but everything is very clean and decorated with great taste, very classic, the bathroom was small, it had a shower, but it had everything and everything was in perfect condition condition. At breakfast, we did not know that the hot dishes had to be ordered, it was not indicated and they did not offer it to us either, but seeing other customers order it, we also did it, except that, everything was very correct and the attention of the employees also.

Best location ! Very close to the main train station & to the city centre right next to the grand canale. A good place to stay as everything is at walking distance. Very clean and staff is very friendly and helpful. There are in room bathroom and shower plus there is a common bathroom and shower on each floor. The only thing that was not good enough was the showers very low water. Rest perfect in every aspect of a hostel.

Amazing building in the heart of Trieste with very comfortable rooms and a stunning bar. The staff is very helpful and organised a dinner location for us. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel but went to a local eatery instead as there are plenty nearby.
