Our family, including two young children had a fantastic stay at The Wilson Arms. It’s really well situated a short drive from Coniston Launch at which went swimming, hired a boat, ate some fantastic ice cream and food from the Bluebird cafe. The cottage itself was great, having everything we needed for a self catering stay. Ours had a hot tub which was really lovely once we got it heated up, and stayed warm as long as you kept the fire going while you were in the cottage, and stayed warm overnight. It was clean, modern but cosy, had a great shower, fridge and tv. If I’m being super critical I think a few washing up tablets, a dust pan and brush and some extra washing up liquid would have been useful but we didn’t mind buying our own. There was lots of space outside in the garden with chickens, cows etc nearby which the kids loved. We were a bit worried that staying at a pub might be a bit noisy, keep the kids awake etc but once inside the cottage we couldn’t hear a thing, despite it being part of the same building. It was really useful being able to pop next door to the pub for coffees, breakfast, food for the kids and some drinks when needed. The chips were incredible. The deli on site was great too, with lovely food, amazing breakfast sandwiches and useful items for sale. I’ve seen some reviews saying the staff are rude which I simply cannot image. Every staff member we interacted with were super helpful, really friendly and funny, making us feel very welcome and never a burden, despite some challenging moments with our kids. We love Coniston as it’s smaller and quieter than some of the lakes, but still looks incredible with the Old Man of Coniston and other fells surrounding. This is the perfect place to stay either on your own or with children. We would recommend it to anyone and hope to return soon.
