Had a lovely week at the Grand Hotel Royal. It's a gem of a hotel which provided our base for a weeks stay. This was our second stay in Viareggio having previously stayed at the Grand Hotel Principe Di Piemonte which is a 5 star hotel close by. The Grand Hotel Royal was pretty much a match and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel and the friendliness and help of all the staff who went out of there help to provide excellent service. I had the need to attend a local hospital and the concierge staff were quick to advise and arrange for transportation to the hospital. We had a couple of days staying local, enjoying the hotel pool and table tennis and a few days taking day (train) trips to Florence, Sienna and Cinque Terre which was a fantastic day out and worth the 18 Euros day card available from the station at La Spezia which enables you travel between all of the 5 beautiful villages on the line. We did all of the villages in about 6 hours using the trains. All in all a fantastic holiday in a quality hotel with super helpful staff all within the beautiful towns and villages of Tuscany. What more could you ask for?

First impression is somehow modest. Still, you get used to it and then you see that it is clean (I believe they are changing the sheets every other day), the staff is really friendly and helpful. The location is good, next to the beach (you would better choose Bagno Amore instead of what they recommend - even with the discount - Bagno Elisabetta - a bit cheaper and more space next to the water to play). If the weather is nice, the breakfast is on the roof (which is super nice). Some enhancements could be done: a more diversely breakfast, management could see some things that need to be addressed such as part self service breakfast to reduce frustration, shower space and shower hose not only shower head, extra space in the bathroom for toothbrush, nicer light fixtures and so on. All in all, the price is fair for what you get.

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights in a junior suite for three adults plus our puppy with a sea view and balcony. The staff are brilliant being very professional, engaging and highly efficient. The hotel is spotlessly clean, food is great including room service and there are loads of free extras including car parking, bikes, tennis etc. The beach is a short walk across one road and the area is quiet. We have had a fabulous time at this hotel and would strongly recommend it to all friends and family who want to visit Tuscany and experience something very special. making a hotel beautiful is a rather easy goal, creating a welcoming and familiar atmosphere is quite another. Daiana, the hotel manager, manages to immediately make you feel like a special customer.. the staff, Francesca and Giulia for example, take care of you as if they've known each other for a long time. highly recommended.

Hotel on the outskirts of the city. Before stopping - 5 min a week, 25 min a weekend (this should be taken into account if there is no car). A comfortable room, there is everything you need. For breakfast, the choice of several options (toasts, eggs, yogurt, etc), the owner prepares for the specified time.
