Howard Lake Resort Shihmen Dam

This hotel is perfect for a family trip. The facilities on the third floor are amazing, with a ball pit, electric cars (with a track!), and tons of e-sport games. There's also a gym and a sauna. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and the view from the window is great. The only minor drawback is that, since it's in a scenic control area, there's no private parking lot. The rented parking spaces are limited, and you have to walk quite a distance (downhill) to get back to the accommodation building. Most guests just park directly on the white lines in front of the hotel, which is more convenient.

Great and comfortable

This was my second stay at the hotel. It's located right next to the Shimen Reservoir Scenic Area. There aren't many on-site dining options, so both times I opted for Uber Eats, as our small group wasn't really suited for the large, family-style set meals typical of the live-fish restaurants in the area. The recreational facilities are excellent! There's a ball pit and various interactive parent-child activities perfect for toddlers. For older children, they have a Nintendo Switch, basketball arcade machines, and a billiard room. Highly recommended! The swimming pool is semi-indoor. It got quite chilly swimming at night, but having a pool is always a big plus. Breakfast was the standard fare you'd expect from the Howard Plaza Hotel group, and the beef noodles were particularly delicious.

The environment is beautiful, and the breakfast is delicious. With excellent recreational facilities, both adults and children can easily spend an entire afternoon here. The on-site facilities, especially the swimming pool, are fantastic and so much fun!

This time, we stayed in an Executive Suite. It featured a minibar, a sofa, and a fridge generously stocked with a diverse selection of beverages, unique local snacks, and plenty of tea bags. The room also boasted twin balconies, offering direct views of Shimen Reservoir's back pond and spillway. While it was rainy and foggy upon check-in, we were fortunate to wake up to a sunny day ☀️, which allowed the stunning scenery to unfold before our eyes – absolutely breathtaking! 👍 The suite's amenities included a foyer, double sinks, a large bathtub, and a separate toilet room. Our kids absolutely loved playing hide-and-seek and insisted on booking the same room type for our next visit. The bedding was incredibly comfortable and warm. However, despite the air conditioning being quiet, it was excessively cold. No matter how we adjusted it, the room temperature seemed stuck at 22-23 degrees Celsius. 🥲 The hotel is conveniently located directly opposite the entrance to the entire Shimen Reservoir park. We finally managed to drive through the whole park. For those planning to explore, I recommend heading out early for a hike to avoid the heat, then returning to the hotel for breakfast and a refreshing bath. 🛁

The swimming pool and play area are well-equipped and offer endless fun. The food is also quite good!
