Coco Tangalla is set in a beautiful location, in a little cove on the rocky shoreline. It is amazing listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore as you relax by the pool or enjoy the restaurant. I stayed there on my own for 6 nights and the staff looked after me so well. Whilst my room was perhaps a bit dated and not as spacious or with as many mod cons as other places I’ve stayed (that cost less), the setting of the room overlooking the sea and pool was amazing, and it was cosy for a single person. What really stand outs at Coco is the staff - unobtrusive but friendly, and the food, both at breakfast and at dinner time, was some of the best I’ve eaten in Sri Lanka. It’s a shame they only do a 3-course menu for dinner as otherwise I would have eaten there more often, but I couldn’t manage so much food every night. This did make it a bit more awkward as I didn’t want to go out on my own after dark, so instead I chose to eat at the little cafe opposite the hotel one night, or at some of the beach restaurants after spending the day at the beach, but the food was much better at the hotel. One of the staff was particularly helpful in helping me organise an airport transfer even after I’d left Coco and was staying at another hotel, the service really did go ‘above and beyond’ what you’d normally expect. Most days, I walked 8 minutes to the little beach by Turtle Landing/Crab Restaurant to enjoy some beach time - it’s not a long walk, but it could be a bit stressful as there’s no pavement, but it was vey convenient to have a lovely beach so nearby.
