I highly recommend this onsen hotel! The environment, service, and food are all excellent. They have two outdoor private onsens and two indoor private onsens, all free of charge. The public outdoor onsen is also very large, and some rooms even come with their own onsen baths. After your bath, you can enjoy complimentary milk and cold drinks, and in the morning, Yakult. There's a sake happy hour in the evening, and free ramen for a late-night snack! I've stayed at over 20 onsen hotels, and this is the first time I've seen such generosity, haha. The hotel pays great attention to every detail, which is fantastic. For dinner, we chose the Hida beef kaiseki meal, which was also quite good. They offer a free shuttle service. I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit!

The place is clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. The room is like a self contained unit, with all amenities available. Kaiseki dinner was fantastic, and the view from the restaurant where we seated for our breakfast was breathtaking. Not forgetting the nice private outdoor Onsen.

Now I understand why it's called Sakura-an (Cherry Blossom Hermitage). It rained this morning, and all the petals fell into the hot spring. It was breathtakingly beautiful, though I could only capture it with my eyes. Definitely worth the trip, I'm extremely satisfied.

A very big ryokan with many different baths, private and public. The western style room we chose was spacious and comfortable. The outdoor is great for pictures taking. The dining room although not private gives option of dining with a window view or otherwise. My hubby left his wallet behind but the honest staff ran after him to return! A Big Thank You & kudos to honest staff 🙏❤️.

The Onsen was incredible. Our room was very clean and the in-room hot springs is worth the splurge! And the dinner and breakfast were delicious! We would definitely recommend this Onsen.

Another review has already covered most aspects of this hotel, including its facilities and environment. Since we upgraded our room type on the second night, I'm writing a separate review for that. This room type is very unique; it's a reconstructed Japanese village house with hotel furnishings, so you can see the exposed beams, which blend in perfectly. The room features the highlight of our trip: a private outdoor onsen. That night, it was snowing heavily in Okuhida, and our family soaked in the outdoor hot spring, watching the snowflakes fall over the forest. It felt like we were in a fairy tale, far surpassing the hotel's two private indoor onsens. Additionally, this room type comes with a complete set of personal care products, provided per person, making it much more comfortable than standard rooms.

The room was spacious and clean. The open-air hot spring wasn't crowded, and after a soak, there was complimentary milk and ice cream. They even offered late-night ramen. The Hida beef aburi kaiseki dinner was delicious too!

🌿 A Secluded Paradise in Okuhida Mountains The moment I stepped into Okuhida Sakurakan, I was captivated by its authentic old folk-house architectural style and the rich scent of wood. The hotel's overall design blends perfectly with the surrounding natural landscape, making it feel like staying in an exquisite forest museum. The rooms are spacious and full of Zen, with magnificent views of the Northern Alps outside the window, beautiful in every season. ♨️ Ultimate Hot Spring Experience The onsen experience here is simply perfect. Besides the public bath, the hotel's **private open-air baths (kashikiri onsen)** offer a truly ritualistic experience. Soaking in the hot springs surrounded by snow-capped mountains and forests is both private and romantic. I especially recommend a morning soak, breathing in the crisp mountain air and feeling the warmth of the spring water—it's a complete rejuvenation for body and soul. 🥩 A Gastronomic Feast The Hida beef dinner banquet was astonishing; the meat was tender and melted in my mouth, and every dish was exquisitely presented like a work of art. The hotel's signature offerings—the complimentary late-night 'Yonaki' ramen and the free Hida milk or ice cream after a bath—truly highlight the delicate and warm Japanese hospitality.

The private hot spring with a snowy view was beautiful, and we could soak for half an hour. The room was quite spacious. However, all the windows in the room could only be opened a crack, so the steam from the private hot spring fogged up the glass, making it impossible to see outside. Also, getting around the hotel involved a lot of up and down, which was a bit tiring, but the privacy was excellent, and it was very quiet. The service was great, very Japanese in that they'd meet any reasonable request you had.

Very comfortable stay. Call the hotel on arrival at Hirayu Onsen bus interchange for free pick up. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic. We appreciated the free amenities like probiotic drink, milk and ice popsicles. Onsen was top notch, especially in winter.

Just had an amazing time in this ryokan with a friend. The public bathroom in the open air - incredible, big, and also a lot of steam, along with the lighting of the lanterns, gives an incredible onsen-vibe! (But it was closed for cleaning at midnight, and not at one in the morning, as written in the brochure). There is also a sauna with a cold bath. After onsen, you can drink milk for free or eat ice cream from frozen juice. There is a separate paid lounge with unlimited beer, wine and whiskey. Private bathrooms are not bad, but not like public ones, plus they were constantly occupied by couples. The bath in the room itself is also not bad, but if you are tall, there may be problems with where to put your feet x) Dinner and breakfast were amazingly tasty. I especially liked the space on the street by the fire, where you can fry marshmallows or just sit after onsen to cool off with a strong drink) During the day we ride to Kamikochi, also a fantastic place)
