This is where you want to be on Sydney Harbor. This is a fantastic hotel with rooms either overlooking the harbor or the park with the Opera House in the distance. The entrance is rather non-descript but functional. Check-in was fast and easy (although our key didn't work because the batteries in the lockset had died--it was quickly fixed). The head of housekeeping, Brooke, was very helpful and friendly. The room had a living room area, kitchen and laundry, dining area, bedroom, and bath plus a spacious balcony. The AC worked well. It was great having laundry available after having 3 weeks on the road. Breakfast was on a lower level in an area surrounded by floor to ceiling glass with a view of the harbor. You order from a menu. Check-out was a bit more complicated because we wanted to redeem some additional Accor points but the person on duty did not know how to do this. There was also the added confusion of the AU$400 that had been charged to our credit card at check-in instead of just being reserved on our card. She promised it would be resolved when the correct person came on duty that afternoon. As promised, we were contacted by phone and e-mail later that day and all was resolved. This is a fantastic hotel where we would gladly stay once again if ever in Sydney.

The large mirror in the room faces the bed. You can come in if you don't mind. The location is between stations 22 and 23 of BIGBUS. Sydney Harbor has a quieter atmosphere than Darling Harbor. The hotel floor is not high, so if you want to see the mountains from a small perspective, you should go to one of the big hotels. Then that day, when I opened the door to the restroom next to the breakfast room, I saw a huge cockroach, which scared me to death. The room hygiene is acceptable. There is a public walkway outside the balcony, and the shade cloth must be pulled up at all times. I don’t know why the beds in Sydney hotels are too soft, which is not suitable for the elderly.

Great location! It is less than 3 minutes away from the most beautiful station in Circular Quay, so traveling is very convenient. It is 150 meters away from the Royal Botanic Gardens, a six-to-seven-minute walk from the Sydney Opera House, and the whale watching tour boat stop is also here. It is only 2 stops to the town hall and 4 stops to Chinatown. It is really very convenient. When you are tired from shopping, you can go back to rest, take a nap or change clothes. There are hotels like InterContinental Sofitel nearby, and Stanford is definitely the best value for money! After comparing agoda, booking, etc., Ctrip has the most cost-effective price. I have stayed in a total of five or six hotels in Australia🏨, and the supporting facilities here are the most complete. For example, only this hotel comes with slippers, which many hotels in Australia do not provide. The room is also large, suitable for international hotels with a lot of luggage. If we talk about disadvantages, it may be that the hardware facilities are slightly older and the rooms facing the street are a bit noisy. You can't check in early, usually around 1 o'clock (the waiter will say 3 o'clock, but it's actually 12-1 o'clock)

Stayed here for 5 nights in February and definitely recommend it. The hotel is close to ROCKS, away from the urban area, but just beside the harbor bridge. More than half of the rooms in the hotel can see the port! The location of the hotel is excellent, only 5 minutes walk to the ROCKS, and 2 minutes walk to the Opera House. If you are worried about finding a hotel, remember that the hotel is in ROCKS. The rooms are clean, tidy and luxuriously decorated with fantastic toiletries. The air conditioner was also very quiet. The staff are extremely friendly and super polite. The restaurant and bar prices are reasonable, what you can eat in the restaurant, you can also eat in the bar. The breakfast was delicious, the best I've ever had. Breakfast has a lot of choices, super fresh tropical fruits and drinks. Of course, you can see the port too, remember to take the seat near the pier to watch the sunset! In other reviews, someone mentioned that the toilet is very noisy. But they forgot to mention that the restroom decorations are thoughtful. There is also a water-saving design equivalent to that of an ordinary toilet. The noise only lasts for two seconds, then it's very quiet. Unlike some restrooms, it takes minutes to flush. The hotel is very quiet, you can't hear any noise, not even when sitting in front of the pier. Of course it is recommended. I will definitely come back. And if you book directly with the hotel, it is much cheaper than looking for an agent. All in all, great value. Great location to watch the sunset! This is an amended review to highlight the ongoing lack of communication from the hotel. It is fair to say that the hotel had some great things going for it but, sadly, customer support is not one of them. Breakfast was excellent and the roof top Aster bar was a great place to enjoy a cocktail and see some spectacular sunsets. However, the whole thing was let down by extremely lacklustre support from the management down. My wife lost her glasses in the hotel. They are prescription reading glasses in very distinct designer frames and were in a sparkly gold box. We asked at the desk during check out if they had been found and were told that they had not been handed in but that reception would check with the Aster bar, where we believe they had been left but was closed at the time of check out. We were due to be in Sydney again in 4 days and the receptionist took all the details and a description of the glasses and case and said that she would email me to give me an update. Sadly we didn’t hear back. Four days later when we returned to Sydney we checked back at the hotel there was no note against our booking and the duty receptionist said nothing could be done but was unable to confirm if a check had been made in the Aster rooftop bar. I asked to speak to the duty manager and an Irish lady, whose name I sadly didn’t get, came out to speak to me. She was very apologetic and said it was not the normal standard we should expect from the hotel and promised to speak to the Aster staff and that she would get back to me by email before the end of the day. Sadly, no further communication was forthcoming and a follow up email to the hotel remains unanswered. We realise that the loss was our fault but the lack of interest from the staff and unfulfilled, empty promises from the management would definitely deter us from staying there again. It would appear that the management have no interest in fostering customer satisfaction.

4 night stay for Vivid. Chose this as an Accor member and that it was close to the Harbour. Upgraded to a Prestige Suite, Club benefits and was not disappointed. Yes the building is not new, it’s not like the shiny new hotels in town, but it’s solid and my sleeps were uninterrupted and rarely heard noise from the hall. My Suite 930 was spacious, clean, well appointed, Sofitel Bed topper and electric sockets to plug in my adapters to charge. Like other reviews no USB ports but I’m sure most sensible travellers have an adapter. The Club Sofitel access was the perfect addition. Early check-in and waited with a hot tea while my suite was made up. It was 9:30am but the room was rushed and 30 minutes later I was unpacking. Evening canapés and drinks from 5:30pm. Table drink service by Alley and her dedicated, personable, attentive team. They remember your preferences pretty quickly and it became an oasis from Vivid hoping and sightseeing. My suite completely blocked out the light and slept through 2 alarms, it’s the Sofitel Bed topper. Breakfast at Club Sofitel, peaceful, plenty of options to choose from, salmon and capers to a great gluten free station, eggs cooked to order and a great way to start the day. Try the Dilmah Blood Orange and Eucalyptus tea. Thanks Lara. Afternoon Tea served from 2:30 and daily sandwiches , scones, cakes and complimentary drinks, tea, coffee and soft. On entering the Club Lounge, always a friendly greeting, your preferred drink served and a relaxing space anytime of the day. The Club team really made my stay, they work really hard to make your stay great. Housekeeping always made up my room before my afternoon return. Always a Bonjour as you walked past them in the hall. My stay was great. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The Lobby is grand and the history of this hotel makes her great. Not the newest but I prefer tradition and good honest service. Definitely not the style of hotel for everyone but my expectations were met and exceeded beyond imagination. Club Sofitel is a must. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I organised a group get together of 74+ year olds. A reunion 50 years after medical school graduation. Everyone was so happy. The GM Klaus was very corporative in arranging a 'gala' dinner for us in a separate room. The desk staff courteous and helpful. The rooms were small - but very elegantly designed. The lighting subtle and pleasant. Beds comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. THANK YOU

Great location right in the centre of The Rocks area in Sydney. Located on George St, the hotel is opposite the Overseas Cruise Terminal, surrounded by plenty of restaurants and pubs and is beside the Rocks Markets that are open on weekends. While the location is superb, sadly the hotel is very much underwhelming in comparison to what I've experienced at other Rydges properties. The hotel is old, but not in an old world style, just plain old and tired. Bed was comfortable and the rooms are very much basic. Apart from a desk and chair, there was only one other chair and no lounge in the room. As a warning to anyone who has access issue, each of the floors are on two levels and the lifts don't stop on the alternative levels so you'll need to use a flight of about 8 steps between each level. My room had the shower over the bath which was only just over 3 foot long. The shower ceiling was so long that I couldn't stand up properly and the hot water was so scolding hot (obviously no tamping valves) that with the cold water on full I only just turned the hot on otherwise it was too hot. Rooms are individually air conditioned but with ours set to 19.5° it was still really warm. The TV is so low it's near impossible to watch from the bed (remember no lounge or table to sit at) and really needs to be mounted on the wall. On a positive the staff were really good, friendly and helpful, though I was alarmed to watch the young lady checking people into the restaurant for breakfast, walk past and pick up a piece of bacon from the surface area beside the bowls and toss it back in with the other bacon and then mix it in with the rest.

I caught the train to Circular Quay, where the Opera House and Harbour Bridge is. Then walked up many, many stairs to get here. Well worth it. Very modern, even though it's built over an archaeological site of part of the old Rocks area. Beautifully done and preserved. Room was very modern and clean, albeit expensive for a double ensuite room. But i did not mind paying for the location and cleanliness. Bathroom modern and clean. Lockers available for long term hire. I can not rate it highly enough The rooftop of this hostel!!?? Absolutely second to none. Perfect views of the Opera House, Bridge and harbour

I had high expectations of Capella Sydney after staying multiple times at Capella Bangkok and being treated as though I were the most important person in the hotel, just like all of the other guest who stay there are. The attention to service detail at Sydney location unfortunately failed very short to meet my expectations. The booking process on the website was glitchy and the pricing was inconsistent, sometimes showing pricing including tax sometimes not without indication and only upon receiving confirmation via email from reservations was the price confirmed, which did not match the screenshots of the reservation when I placed the booking so I had to go back and forth with reservations via phone and email to simply confirm the accurate pricing for my stay. After creating an account to log on to their booking platform although the option of modifying the booking was offered, the feature did not work on the site, so you had to cancel the booking and book a new booking if you simply wanted to extend by 1 day. This is before I even arrived at the hotel. When I did arrive, it is of course, no small feat that the restoration of this historic building was carried out with the utmost respect for the architecture, from the flooring material to the fenestration and even the internal grand stair way was brilliantly retro-fitted with current code requirements for the handrail in a historically appropriate yet contemporary solution. The hotel does not have many floors, so I encourage anyone to take the stairs to experience the beauty of the restoration work. The recognition of the strong identity of the urban location and sense of place in Sydney’s CBD offers us a promise, an encounter, as the space of the possible. I wish I could say the same about the interior design. There was a real disconnect between the intent of the architecture and that of the interior design. The decoration at best seemed vague, and so for the guest experience, how could one of have a point of view about the effect of the design? The space of the expectant “possible” relationship I was expecting from the simple activity of stepping into Farrer Place’s south entryway marked Department of Agriculture, as local stories interpreting colonial history with ancestral elements of the Eora people by Waayni artist Judy Watso unfolded, or the sense of expansive freedom through the bronze Palazzo doors on Loftus Street into the latent quiet luxury of the grand stair was lost when I was met with the contrasting designs and colours of the lift lobby vestibule axminster carpet and that of the corridor carpet to the guest rooms, able to be seen in the same frame. Although an argument can be made about eclecticism and the use of curating a collection of exceptional vintage and contemporary objects this was not the case here, it read as a mismatched bric-à-brac (to borrow a Victorian word from the building time period that's true meaning in French means ”any old way” or ”at random”). Location drew me to Establishment, situated near some of my favourite restaurants in Sydney and close to the venue where I was doing business. Establishment delivers for location. I also chose Establishment for a little bit of luxury to break a heavy work schedule and it did not live up to expectation. It seems to be a great party crash hotel for the bucks/hens night with few services that really speak to the time poor luxury business traveller. It’s beautifully styled with a comfortable bed, but that is about the limit. It’s the services and the quality of the room features that let it down. No 24 hour room service and a menu that is not reflective of the quality of the food precinct it’s situated in. (I went out to get an excellent take away breakfast that I brought back to my room rather than order anything from the scant breakfast menu that looked like a take away menu). I left my computer power charger at home, but concierge could not help me with one to borrow or ideas on where I could buy a replacement. The bath is very narrow and not much hot water - I boiled the kettle to get it a bit warmer. Hunter products in the bathroom but there was no hair conditioner and few of the little luxuries that you would expect in such a stylish bathroom such as extra towels, make up mirrors/lighting, an extra soap for the bath. The room fittings are pretty tired and scuffed up. It’s certainly ready for a bit of a renovation/ refresh. The carpet looks like it’s seem some amazing parties. The room, particularly the bathroom, smelled strongly of cigarette smoke despite it being a non smoking hotel. The bathroom shower curtain was really dirty and needs to be replaced. Lots of marks on the walls and scuff marks on furniture - looks tired and a bit worn out. There is no dedicated space to work for business travellers, other than a long table near the window but I had to sit on the bed. Inside the lift the small seating looks like it had seen some parties as well and not clean enough to sit on. No hand sanitiser anywhere. This was the most expensive room rate for the CBD area I wanted to be in, and the result was disappointing. As a lover of boutique hotels, I was looking forward to staying here, but based on this experience I won’t return and can’t recommend this one.
