Strand Hotel Swakopmund

Friendly Service. Waiters very friendly. Special treatment in our stunning room. Rooms neat and clean. Huge shower en bathroom area. Breakfast very good. Staff helpful en friendly. Fantastic view from both sides of the room !! Would visit again in warmer time of the year.

+ do the job, maybe the best option in swakop, Rooms are ok not fancy, but they do the job. The area of swakop is amazing with many things to do. The strand is a good base to do all the wonderful tours around. Ocean cellar is a good option - The brewer and butcher was not so good. The oil used for fried taste funny. Furthermore it was really noisy. All in all it was quite good, the localization is good, most of the staff were nice and helpful. A tip regarding the area, we went there end of August and it was cold and windy, unlike us do your homework to plan to come in a better month :-)

We decided to book two nights at the Strand after having had a fantastic week staying at the Mokuti Etosha, which has the same owner. We had also stayed at the Strand for two nights in April last year and had a much better experience then than now. Already at the check in we were met by a sour man who seemed completely uninterested in small talk and in hearing that we were here also last year. He only scoffed at us when we asked for a room with an ocean view, which is part of the whole reason for staying at this hotel, in our view. The hotel was booked for us by the Mokuti reception so we were unaware that the price for two nights was extremely high in comparison with the standard of the hotel. The hotel is nice but absolutely not worth the requested price for two nights. We asked for a discount as returning guests who came directly from a week at another hotel by the same owner, but the sour check-in officer brushed it off. Also the hotel requested payment up front, which my husband paid. But after discussing the price between us we decided it was not worth it and asked for the manager. We said we wanted to reduce to one night only and to stay at another hotel the second night. There are other hotels nearby that seem very nice and charges 1/4 of the price. The manager wanted to make us an offer in hope to make us stay. After a long while two employees came to offer us free dinner or 10% discount. We declined as we rather would try the other option. But to get our money back for the second night became a big problem. According to the manager, it was not possible to put the money back in our card and the hotel did not have any cash available (!). They also only wanted to return the money for the two nights if we agreed to first pay for a third night. In addition they could apparently only send the money back via Swift international banking which takes at least a week for us to receive. There was absolutely zero will to find a flexible solution in order to accomodate us. The room we received was the last on the row overlooking a play ground and with a bit of ocean view on the side of the balcony. We discovered that the hotel was only a little over half filled up so it probably would have been possible to find a room with a full ocean view if they had wanted to. In the room we discovered that the shower was partially broken, there was almost no water pressure in the bathroom tap and there was no soda, water or any snacks in the fridge. For the price they charge that would have been a minimum to be expected. We had lunch in one of the restaurants of the hotel and the food was more or less disgusting. The fried calamari was soggy and only half-fried, the chicken wings tasted weird and the fries were very dry. Dinner was fortunately a little bit better in another of the hotel restaurants (we did not have the energy to go outside and look for a restaurant). All in all this hotel is a great disappointment and can not be recommended unless the servi

This hotel is a beauty and had everything that we could wish for after 3 weeks of being on safari and the desert. The staff in reception were incredible - friendly, helpful and ready to laugh. We ate at all of the restaurants and enjoyed each of them. Seafood was great, the meat was enormous and the Farmhouse Deli had a breakfast that was both externsive and delicious. (Loved the fresh pressed juice!) Swakomund was a charming town and the hotel is easy walking to everything. The views of the beach and the ocean were icing on the cake!

Typical hotel - good location but not value for money. Overpriced for the kind of service rendered. Hotel requires Upgrades. Carpets requires cleaning in the passage ways. Limited complimentary water in the room which is sometimes not supplied.

A great little hotel in the centre of Swakop, perfectly placed for walks in to town to explore shops and cafes, look out at the beach or restaurants in the town. Welcome was lovely from the reception team and rest of the staff very friendly. Our room was clean, comfortable and functional throughout our stay. Reasonable cost - good buffet food at breakfast, we did not eat here for lunch or dinner nor drink at the bar as we were out exploring. Happy Birthday singing at breakfast was glorious - a choral treat. Parking by the hotel in public car park on the mole - free of charge when we stayed. I would stay again at this hotel if in Swakop.

Really enjoyed our three nights here - a very nice hotel, good service, perfect location, nice rooms with comfortable beds - would absolutely stay here again. It is right next to the cove with the public beach, so very convenient. And for those with kids, very close to several play areas, fun for all ages.

Sadly management do not run this hotel well. There are vehicles coming and going at all hours We were wakened up this morning by an overland group at 0500am shouting loudly in the car park and yesterday at 0600am by a large tour bus collecting passengers from the hotel This afternoon there are a group of people playing loud music from their car boot in the hotel car park and management don’t care to do anything about it Terrible hotel choose somewhere else for your stay in Swakopmund

Really good hotel, lovely room. Comfortable, clean and air conditioned room. Fabulous breakfasts. The sun terrace is really nice. Our only issue was that a hotel of this standard and aspirations ought to have bar staff who can make a basic martini! It’s a first world problem but little things make such a difference to an experience. Tiny problem, happy to recommend and would stay there again
