Out of all the Halls Gap hostels I've stayed at the YHA is officially my favourite. The place has a really good atmosphere and the owners are some of the nicest I've met whilst travelling - they were happy to share local knowledge and made my stay all the nicer. Location is great and the facilities were clean and well maintained - they are really committed to being eco friendly and covid safe. Also I booked via the YHA itself so the price for my private room was cheaper than what I saw on the booking sites. The only negative I can think of was the type of toilet roll holder they have in the mens' toilets. Will definitely stay here again!!!

Hotel facilities are relatively old, window air-conditioning noise is basically not available, but there is an electric heater to resist the cold of Halls Gap night. The hotel is an old couple who are very welcoming and very patient with the Chinese who do not understand English. The room was clean and the bedding was comfortable. Open the balcony door to see the kangaroos jumping on the wide grass, about a hundred. The kangaroos are not afraid of people, they will jump in front of you, but you must know how to fear kangaroos, they are violent attackers.

We stayed here for one night, having driven from Melbourne en route to the Silo Art Trail. Located (in common with much other Stawell accommodation) on the Western Highway, it suffers a little from the ongoing road noise, as trucks thunder between Adelaide and Melbourne. That said, check-in was quick and the room was reasonably spacious and well-equipped. The wi-fi was decent, and it was good to have a table and a couple of chairs outside, from which to enjoy the late afternoon sun. There was a barbeque and picnic seating for guest use, though we weren’t that ambitious. The price was fair and sleep - despite the efforts of the trucking industry - was OK. Double-glazing wouldn’t go amiss, mind you.

Sadly this is not a Motel I would recommend staying at when visiting Halls Gap. The positives - Great communication from the Manager Kelly who from the moment we booked provided ample information about the property and it's surrounds. We were told our room was upgraded from a budget room to a Superior room which we were very excited about as I read on the Hotel Web page that the superior rooms had recently been renovated. The shower was nice and hot and had great pressure and the towels were fresh and clean but that is were the positive finished. We arrived late (9pm) and were leaving early the next morning (6.30am) so it was really just a place to lay our head for the night but the room was far from inviting. The carpet was badly stained with brown marks especially at the front door, the room had a funny oder (potentially because it was a 'pet friendly' room). We were travelling with our dog and paid $15 extra for the privilege eventhough this was not made clear on the booking.com web page which we booked on. I later found it was mentioned on the Gariwerd Motel booking page but we did not book on this. A suggestion would be to add it to the booking.com page too. The bathroom sink had a big black curly hair in it, the toilet door did not close properly and there is no exhaust fan in the bathroom so the entire room fogs up and condensation runs down the walls when you have a shower. It was freezing cold when we arrived so of course the first thing we needed to do was put the heating on. This ended up being a 20 minute process. After following instructions given, resetting the machine, cleaning the filters (which were caked in dust - picture provided) we finally got it working. Now I am not in the habit of writing negative reviews. Infact, I think this is my first trip advisor review ever but I felt compelled to write as I had read such good reviews about the Motel and in particular the emphasis on the cleanliness of the rooms. Sadly this is not what we experienced at all. I can't seem to upload pictures onto this link but will try and add them to the official Trip Advisor page.

Excellence and comfort. Large space with table and chairs for dining. Lady at reception was very helpful with ease of checking in. We had use of laundry and breakfast facilities if we wanted it. Unfortunately no evening dining so went to local restaurant nearby. Suggest you book for local restaurants. Very busy town. Would recommend to anyone looking for cleanliness and accessible to local sights.

Excellent
GGuest UserHad a lovely time at Grampians View Cottages. We were very warmly welcomed by Jurek and Grevillea Cottage was well appointed - well stocked kitchen cookware and utensils, loads of wood and kindling for the Coonara, lovely hot shower and great wifi!. Kids enjoyed the basketball court and bicycles free for hire. Had a dad emu and his 5 teen-emus wander right past our front door. Five minute drive into Halls Gap and a lovely hotel right across the road for dinner. Look forward to staying here again on our next visit to the Gap.
LLIJUNGoing to Grampians on Saturday, the room is relatively small, so we have to book in advance, we can only stay for half an hour or so, stay in this house, but the town has a supermarket, shopping is convenient. Breakfast is free, it is bread milk and cereal cereal, which is relatively simple, and it is a bit cold to eat. The bed is 1.5 meters, and the sleeping family is a bit crowded.

AannereynoldsI was expecting a very basic room because it’s an affordable motel. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised. The room was big, spotlessly clean and well decorated. Attention to detail was obvious from the minute we entered. We will definitely stay there again and highly recommend it . Traffic noise is of course an issue because it’s a main freeway. Accommodating staff makes a big difference.
GGuest UserI rang to say I would probably miss check-in, (driving in from Melbourne and was caught in storms), no problem, the very nice and helpful Brenda gave me the code for the room key. The motel is an oldish one but I was pleasantly surprised by the very clean, neat and spacious room. Comfy bed, big wall mounted TV, new shower with great water pressure, nice towels, well equipped with microwave etc and while the air con unit is an older one, it works (it was during a hot spell). It's on a highway so expect some truck noise but it's not that bad. There's a cafe and Macca's nearby for the all important coffee and brekky. I will stay there again for the next visit.
GGuest UserThe caveat is that there is a new owner that just took over one week prior so this is mostly for the previous owner, however the new owner didn't seemed to worried about my feed back and issues with his place. Price wise this accommodation was mid level. I stayed in their 1 bedroom cabin due to needing full kitchen facilities for my daughter and myself. It was quite an old build however the main reason i've rated it so low was that the cleanliness was nowhere close to where it should have been. The first cabin had a bad odour which smelt like a mouse had died. The new owner didn't care when i told him about it, i had to suggest changing cabins and luckily he had a spare cabin to move us into. The carpet desperately needed a good steam clean and for some reason there was an ant problem as well. In the evening with all the doors and windows shut, hundreds of little bugs still managed to get into the place. The oven was only half size but luckily just fit a small roast into it. The 2 cook top elements could only be used singularly due to being small. There is no phone signal there and their wifi was only good enough to browse very slowly with considering there were only about a quarter of the accommodations booked. There isn't anywhere it says that the wood heater has been boarded in but they do have a reverse cycle a/c instead. I would not book here again and take my chances else where.
GGuest UserGreat little motel at a reasonable price and a beautiful location! The rooms are comfortable and the showers truly amazing! Great to be able to spend time around so many kangaroos at dusk too. Extremely friendly service, catering to any needs you have. We were lucky enough to be supplied with a lift into Halls Gap to try the local restaurants and brewery. The Views also boasts a delicious dinner menu, although you’d be expecting to pay a fair bit. Overall, a great experience for a good price.
