Food is lovely, quite expensive but it is what you would expect at such a lovely restaurant, Stamford is a wonderful place to visit and a real treat at The George and highly recommend. Sunday lunch is a real treat and impeccable service, service is second to none!

The sunday lunch at the garden restaurant we had was lovely. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. The menu is quite varied with pretty large portion sizes. It can be a bit hit and miss though waiting for your order, all depending on how busy they are.

2nd time visiting the George and have to say excellent experience. All the staff were really friendly and attentive , room was great nice and clean and warm . Breakfast has a great choice of options . Lovely old fashioned romantic old coaching inn with log fires and relaxed surroundings . Will definitely be booking again soon

Very professional polite and courteous staff at every stage. Food was all delicious and well presented . Prompt service at all times . Ideal for a special occasion. Sat in the bar area first for a drink where they gave us the menus to look at and some canapés . Took the food order before we went into restaurant which was a good idea.

This hotel is a model of how to run one. The staff are helpful, friendly and excellent. The rooms are superb as is the food. The building could not be bettered for the history, cleanliness and location it being in surely one of the finest towns in the UK. If I have a quibble it is that there is no tea making facilities in the room which even the cheapest hotels supply and at these large prices it appears mean spirited indeed. It is something much appreciated after a long journey to a hotel and you do not want to wait for it to be delivered to your room.. Added to that if you ask for a pot of tea in the downstairs areas as a quest you are charged for it. This is not good enough and lets down what is apart from that a truly great hotel.

Just popped in for coffee with friends. We had 2 teas and a latte ( very small , and cup not full) £18!!! Although drinks are refillable, it is difficult to get service, as always appear to be short of staff. Previously had been with a bigger group just before Christmas where we waited 45 mins for drinks, and when they arrive the order was incorrect. They always lways seem to have less staff than needed, but for £6 a drink, I expect tip top service.......

After visiting The George, on more than one occasion, for one of their wonderful afternoon teas, we decided that we would like to stay overnight and experience everything that the hotel had to offer. We were not disappointed. From the moment we checked in, to the moment we left, we were made to feel very special. We had an evening meal in the Oak Room, the food was fabulous. A mistake was made with my meal, this was rectified in minutes and the Maître d' came to apologise personally for the mistake. This shows how important the enjoyment of the Guest is to The George. My partner had a Martini cocktail and is still talking about the stylish way an orange twist was slid into his glass, some weeks later. The room, was pleasant, but not having facilities to make a cup of tea or coffee was a little strange. That said, it was wonderful to receive a morning knock on the door, at the appointed time, to find a lady with a try of hot coffee and a copy of The Times. Breakfast was hot and plentiful. It felt like nothing was too much trouble. People always say that they will return, but often don’t. Well, we are – tomorrow night, and we can’t wait.

I often visit this hotel and bring clients from around the world to enjoy it with me. However we found that some of the staff who have arrived recently have been incredibly rude. What a shame! The food is always lovely in the Garden Room. Some wonderful areas to sit outside to enjoy the beauty of this place. Just such a shame about the new staff.

A very pleasant ad-hoc visit the The George. The staff very friendly and professional. The atmosphere within the hotel is relaxed and calming. The building is very old and some of this translates into the decor in the rooms; or at least ours; whilst to a good quality and standard the decor was of olde world style, such as some of the pictures on the wall. This did not detract from the stay as the room was well equipped and the bed very comfy. Perhaps more importantly, there was working air conditioning in the room which was very welcome and impressed us a building this old had air conditioning. Jackets for men were requested for the main dining room, which I did not have as it was an ad-hoc stop. I wish I had a jacket as we would have liked to try that restaurant as well, but no issues and I appreciate the desire to keep a certain dress code. There was another restaurant within the hotel which catered to a more casual dress code. The food in the ‘garden lounge’ - think that’s what it was called, was excellent and well presented. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient at both dinner and breakfast. Breakfast was a pure served affair- no buffet- which I find excellent. Having a choice of breakfast and have it brought to the table enhanced the feel of luxury rather than a self service style. Will be staying again and highly recommend. There is also a large car park as part of the hotel.
