Blue Jay Lodge

The Blue Jay lodge was a really nice clean facility, but it was different than most motels in the area. It's something of a motel/airbnb hybrid. There is no one there to check you in, you are sent the room number of combination an hour before you arrive, and it's all very hands off. This works for me, but it's something I didn't understand before booking. It's a little farther away from the village than the places I normally stay but still close. I will definitely consider it again in the future.

Room needs to be properly cleaned, disinfected. Sheets are 100 polyesters. Feels like sleeping on plastic. It was horrible. Lots of static to be on a plastic material sheets.

The room was clean. The location is great —super convenient access to ******s/Heavenly district. The room heating was awful—set the digital temp and the thermostat maintained the temp /- 5 degrees. There was no way to simply set a comfortable temperature. We were constantly too cold or roasting throughout the night. Oh, and the air blows right on you if you’re on that side of the bed. Then there’s the excessively loud mini fridge. The bath towels were super thin. Pretty sure the shower curtain and the minimal decor were picked up on markdown at Ross. The bed was super soft, which is not good in my book. The pillows seemed to be twin sized on a queen bed. The ******* listing says “no pets allowed” but the motel has a “guest book” and signage announcing that “pets are always welcome.” Thankfully, our room didn’t smell like a dog. I appreciate that this place is relatively cheap compared to most in the surrounding area; but I believe they could afford to maintain a little higher standard while still delivering good value.

Stayed here with a couple of friends and we highly enjoyed our stay! When we first got to the lodge the check in was all through email, with a door code sent earlier that day which made it very easy. The inside of our room was very clean and spacious. The staff we ran into were very friendly. The location was perfect; within walking distance to shops, restaurants and the Tahoe Blue Event Center!

It could be better. The pillows are so hard. Overall, I like the location.

The room was spotless (very clean) but was drab and without Tahoe personality or beauty, no one in the office . My tip is bring flowers, a candle and a small light that isn’t so glaring. Don’t misunderstand . For a business trip it is clean and perfect but for someone who loves the beauty of Lake Tahoe it is disappointing.

I booked my room through AirBnB and had absolutely no human interaction. All the communication was digital, including check-in and check-out. The facility is probably 50 years old, but the accommodations had an elegant feel and the price was reasonable.

Prices have gone up a lot during the pandemic. We wanted to find a decent place to say for an affordable price. Bluejay was just want we were looking for. Easy check in, at a central location in walking distance to the Gondola and restaurants. The room was a decent size with laminate wood floors and all the amenities we wanted; coffee maker (we brought filters and our own coffee to brew), microwave, and mini fridge with freezer (perfect for ice cream and our ice packs). The TV was a decent size and had a couple premium channels. Wifi worked well. There was a small table and 2 stools to eat at. The bed was decent (slightly on the firm side but still comfortable). The pillows were as expected on the soft/less supportive side. The blankets were very thin but you can turn up the heat of needed. The shower pressure was on the weaker side and then I realized the lower faucet head was loose and getting pushed out from the wall. Tried to tell them on check out but no one was at the window in the morning. The lighting was on the darker side but not a big deal if you’re not spending much time in the room. Pros: location, room size, fridge, bed comfort Cons: shower pressure, small wobbly table to eat on

Book direct with these folks. We mistakenly booked through Air B&B, $240 a night! That was way over priced, but stayed one more night at $139! No more ABB for me ever. The rooms were unique, the staff helpful and friendly. They have done major upgrades recently. With the new laminate floors this was definitely “pet friendly” plus you can find spots on the property shady and close by for no doggy mistakes, unlike Vegas nonsense (see my Downtown Grand review). Also very close to everything! We didn’t drive for 2 days. Even walked to see Neil Young a block away! Awesome! We will be back!
