This is a very attractive property, just a short drive from the Narragansett Bay shore. The lobby and the breakfast area are spacious; the grounds are well-kept. We are Titanium level and, this year alone, have stayed over 120 nights throughout the country. Today, for the first time I felt unwelcome at Marriott due to my ethnicity. I stopped at front desk to ask for pool towels, and Scarlett, General Manager of the hotel, was the one assisting me; another front desk person was there as well. After I spoke, she looked at me, laughed, and said, ”I was not expecting such a heavy accent by looking at you,” then continue to say ”pool,” mocking my accent and laughing. The gentleman said, ”sure, let me get you some.” Scarlett then said, ”give them the blue ones since those are for the beach.” She continuously repeated, ”you need to bring them back,” meaning the towels, as well as pressing me, ”what is your room number, to make sure you do,” give back the towels. I am Hispanic, not a thief. The gentleman gave me the towels; I thanked him for them and left. I am very hurt a disappointed with the treatment I received from a Marriott employee, especially since we have made Marriott our hotel of choice. I guess diversity and inclusion is not valued at the Marriott management level.
