I had high hopes for this hotel based on their website & good reviews however we found the drab decor and lack of ambience rather soulless and disappointing. Our superior room on the second floor was a good size and had a great sea view. The bed was comfortable but incredibly the local church bells sounded every quarter throughout the night! The decor was uninspiring and the bathroom need a full refurb (chipped bath & paintwork) and had only one small tube of shower gel & Shampoo plus one small vanity soap for two people for three nights, with no replenishment, in fact not cleaned at all after our first night! We were DB&B basis so ate three nights in the restaurant. The menu had 4 starters, 6 main courses including two veggie options and 4 desserts with no variation or specials (apart from the soup). The hotel displays several one rosette plates but the latest is 2017 and the standard has slipped considerably since that time. I felt that the chicken curry was no better than lumps of chicken breast in a bottled curry sauce. However the Fresh Mussels starter was very tasty. The dining room was quite quiet each night and definitely lacked atmosphere. Breakfast was OK but nothing special. Staff were in the main quite young and perhaps lacked experience, not unfriendly but on the other hand not particularly welcoming. On the whole the hotel grounds and public areas were a bit neglected. Biggest plus point for the hotel is the location and outlook across the Gare Loch & Clyde.
