Grand Hotel Ortigia

Supposedly a 5 star hotel, it is not, except by the breakfast and parking in a limited parking area. I came with a friend with a standard reservation, i.e. two beds. I got an upgrade a did not ask for to a junior suite, which considered a double bed and a sofa I discovered only when I got into the room. It took more than 45 minutes to solve the problem. While we were waiting, we asked to go to the spa, and the request was refused t was because ”it was occupied”. Besides that, it is a nice hotel located in Ortigia, with easy access to all must see places there.

We purchased one of the rooms that included a single bed/sofa as it has a balcony and was larger. The staff from the front desk to cleaning were awesome. I wish we stayed longer. You did not hear the street noise. Please note that there really is not free parking available. We didn't see a single free site but did use the 'park easy' app to pay for a spot real close to the hotel. On the app be sure to select that you needed an overnight or term parking. It is cheaper than the hourly. It was a Sunday when we arrived and the area is quite busy. Overall, we would stay here again if we came back to Ortigia.

The hotel was small but stylish. Modern and very clean with twice a day fresh towels. I was very disappointed with the room that was given to us. It had windows that were frosted but we could not see outside. There was no mirror in bedroom but there was an iron and ironing board ( that was a plus). Bathroom was big but shower was slippery. The staff both at reception and at breakfast were extremely efficient, helpful and friendly. Breakfast was disappointing, too many wishy washy things and hot breakfast was extra. We asked for beach towels and we had to rent those. For the price of this hotel you would expect some things to be given to you as a matter of course. Jacuzzi was never used on the roof top garden and never saw any staff up there to offer any service. Parking was available for free but once you moved it was pot luck to find one again.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at this old convent in Ortigia, the old part of Siracusa. We were given a room on the third floor, with a small balcony overlooking the Ionian sea and, to the north, Etna looming in the distance behind the city (about 50 miles away). I believe this room had the best view of any place we’ve stayed. David and Cinzia at the front desk were extremely helpful, and recommended several good restaurants during our stay. This hotel was an ideal base for us to explore Siracusa by foot, or to just hang out and enjoy the view from our balcony. If you manage to get a room with a sea view, sunrise is not to be missed!
Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa

After reading some of the reviews, I was a little worried about what the experience would be like. However, from the arrival, the staff were friendly and professional as well as being efficient. The rooms we had (three couples) were in the modern part of the hotel, overlooking the golf course with the pool to the front. They were all clean and well appointed with most things you'd need for a few days break. The service for the one dinner we had was great (especially the restaurant manager (Marco?) in a busy and pretty dining room, the food was good, not great but good and reasonably priced. Breakfasts were good with a good variety but I would agree with some of the other comments that freshly pressed orange juice would have been good to have. Lunch near the club house was nice but as many people finished playing gold at a similar time it could get busy and the service was sometimes a bit hit and miss but as the staff were friendly we found it more amusing that irritating. There was one waitress who looked very stressed and needed to smile a bit more! The pool which we though would be closed was actually open and we were able to swim along with quite a few others, it was missing a lifeguard which we were told about but that was not a problem (a bit chilly in October). The pool and surrounding area was lovely and well set out. Pool bar was shut as it was out of season. I has a massage which was excellent and reasonable priced however, the actual spa needs a bit of an update and was quite damp in places. Unfortunately the Turkish bath did not have heating (broken) but looked lovely. Overall, beautiful building and grounds (don't play golf so can't comment on the course but those that did thought it was ok), in a peaceful and tranquil position-bit expensive if you want to go to Syracuse (recommended) but then we knew it was roughly 20 minutes away (taxi for 6 was 60 euros). Staff were great and I'm glad we spent a long weekend there.
