The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong

Lujiazui Area Shanghai|0.38km from Qujian Tongjiang
When it’s time for me to take a well-deserved break from the stressors of my life, I head to the Ritz Carlton Shanghai IFC. I experienced the 49th floor Club level. I will definitely return. My room had my preferred view of the Oriental Pearl (TV) Tower. I’m originally from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, so watching the barges on the river brings me peace. And when it’s time for the nightly light show at 7 PM sharp, my inner child is giddy every time. It’s the little touches that means so much, the beautiful fruit and flowers next to the macaroons upon arrival to my art deco chic hideaway makes an old Girl feel special. In-room dining is so amazing with their delicious offerings of comfort food like perfect mashed potatoes or spaghetti. Each Gentleman and Lady provided polite service with warmth! Thank you! Breakfast was wonderful at the Club! Fabulous Manager in the making, Beyond, greeted me with a welcome smile and relaxed demeanor that made me feel very valued! He chatted and checked on me as I leisurely made my way through both Chinese and Western breakfast items: I had the most tasty bowl of dumplings (perfect broth), an incredible serving of Chinese spinach (or was it something else) it was deliciously tender and tangy topped with Asian pickles-that is how I eat greens in the US: homesickness alleviated. Get your Western style breakfast happiness: eggs - made to order, fresh, squeezed orange juice, toast, sausages, and exceptional baby potatoes. I will return to the Club level so that I can try them more offerings and thank the Ladies that graciously kept the black coffee, fresh, squeezed orange juice and club soda coming. Because my room was on the same floor as the breakfast club my walk back to my fluffy bed and a glorious nap was not a long one. As a successful insomniac I can happily say that while I am at the Ritz Carlton IFC, I am unsuccessful. I always get the best sleep while I am visiting. I will be returning to The Ritz for more warm elegance soon!

Overall a lovely experience, very luxurious. The check-in process was particularly notable—it didn’t feel like many hotels where you stand at a counter to check in, instead your luggage is taken to a counter and you’re seated in armchair while the concierge checked you in. A nice touch! The rooms are extremely spacious, with even the fairly basic room I booked having a seating and dining area. Everything in the room (curtains, lights, AC) is controlled via an iPad, which also felt very nice. The bed was comfy, view of the Bund was stunning both at night and during the day, and the bed was comfy. The added amenities like a Nespresso machine, selection of Chinese teas, and bath salts for the huge circular bathtub were all greatly appreciated. The breakfast had a good variety of Chinese (especially Shanghainese) and western options, mostly on-par with other 5-star hotels in China. Not bad but nothing to make it stand out. My complaints are few, but worth mentioning: 1.) the AC in the room just wasn’t that effective. Even though the weather is cooling down in Shanghai, the room seemed stuffy. I cranked it all the way down to 15 C but still woke up too warm. 2.) I left my room in the evening briefly to grab some takeaway I had ordered and when I returned there was a staff member in my room!! He was placing a plate of fruit on the table (which id lovely and not the reason I’m complaining). I was quite startled and said “hello” in Chinese and looked a bit shocked but he didn’t say a word or apologize and just ran out while staring at me. Perhaps he only speaks Chinese, saw I was a foreigner and thought I couldn’t speak Chinese…not sure. It was definitely a strange encounter.

Everything about this hotel is luxurious. From the moment you arrive, your bags are taken and later brought up to your room. The room has amazing views of the city and it located close to shops and public transportation. The only issue we had was the room was too hot, and the air conditioning wasn’t working properly. One quick call to the front desk was able to fix that and the air conditioning was restored. Other than that, we had a fantastic stay at the Shangri-La

Everything is incredible except for the mobile network coverage but you can use their Wi-Fi instead. If you’re in for making your own meals rather than eating out every night, you must come to the place as they have everything you need, from oven to stove to dishwasher to all sort of kitchen utensils. Also, I loved the bathtub. Clean and spacious. Period. Very convenient too. Just a few steps away from the Lujziachui station, the new town of Pudong. About 20 minutes by foot to the Bund or just take a cab. DiDi is fairly reasonable.

There are so many shining points beyond expectations in one word. From check-in to check-out, I felt very good. It is a very exquisite hotel. Every piece of furniture in the lobby is of high quality. After checking in and checking out, I felt very comfortable. The cookies we checked in were warm chocolate cookies. I asked a lot of questions and Robin answered them all patiently. The room type was upgraded for an extra fee. The little brother said it was their Internet celebrity room type. The room was not big, but I liked it very much. The suite I stayed in at the Venetian before was too big and awkward, and I woke up in the middle of the night. After that, I became more interested in the small but beautiful room. I feel so good, I can’t stop taking these beautiful photos in the room haha Cici was also super nice when checking out, with a friendly smile, responsive to all requests, and very patient. When asked about our stay experience, I said: It was great!

Shanghai's Seasons and Apparel

Shanghai has a humid subtropical climate. Summers (June-August) are hot and humid, while winters (December-February) can be quite cold. The best times to visit are autumn (September-November) and spring (March-May), when the weather is moderate.
