Novotel Shanghai Hongqiao

The hotel's location is super convenient, with direct subway access to the city center. The hotel itself is fantastic, very clean and quiet. The surrounding area is lively and bustling. Definitely recommend, great value for money!

This is genuinely the first hotel I've stayed at where self-service laundry costs money. Maybe it's because I usually stay at places like Orange Hotel, Crystal Orange, or Atour. We needed to print a few homework sheets for the kids, and the front desk directed us to a self-service printer which also charged 1 RMB per page. However, the service attitude was quite good; when we mentioned it was our child's birthday, they even gave us a complimentary small cake. The breakfast was quite rich, with both Chinese and Western options. The complimentary afternoon tea wasn't particularly tasty, but it looked pretty nice, and the kids were happy clapping their hands.

I really disliked this hotel. The moment I walked into the room, I was hit by a strong, unpleasant body odor smell. My husband tried to say it might be from the ventilation system, but whatever it was, it smelled awful. Is this really what a five-star hotel is like? It felt more like a three-star. I booked through Trip.com, and it was supposed to include a room upgrade and 4-hour early check-in. The room upgrade never happened, so my points were wasted for nothing...

After staying one night, I was quite impressed, so I decided to extend my stay for another night since I was heading to Songjiang the next day. The front desk service was excellent; check-in was efficient, and everything was explained very clearly. The room's cleanliness was impeccable, which is definitely a big plus.

The room was clean and tidy, and the location was good too. Although it was a bit of a walk from the metro station, it was fine for us. The kids had a great time, and while the pool was small, it felt very safe. The laundry room's mini-program had way too many ads, which was annoying; you had to scan a QR code before placing an order. Auntie Yuan, the cleaner on our floor, was so thoughtful – she even left extra bottled water in our room when she knew we had children with us! Highly recommend!
