I had a wonderful stay at Sunset Beach Hotel in The Gambia. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by the incredibly friendly and attentive staff, who made me feel comfortable and valued throughout my stay. Their hospitality truly stood out and added a personal touch to the whole experience. The food was another highlight of my visit. There was a great variety of delicious dishes, both local and international, all freshly prepared and full of flavor. Every meal was something to look forward to. The hotel’s relaxing atmosphere, combined with its beautiful surroundings and excellent service, made my stay memorable. I would definitely recommend Sunset Beach Hotel to anyone looking for a peaceful and enjoyable getaway in The Gambia. I especially loved the local cuisine, which gave me a true taste of the culture. I loved that hotel grounds had some cats and a kitten to play with at nights .

What can I say about this hotel apart from that it is fabulous. We loved our room (E7), spotlessly clean and everything we needed. The cleaners were so lovely and friendly. In fact, what makes this hotel what it is, is the staff. From the cleaners, to the pool attendants, restaurant and bar staff, entertainment team, to the security guards. All are amazing people and cannot do enough for you. Lamin on the bar, Rashida and Hassan bar/restaurant, Lisa, Aisha and Alfred from entertainment in particular made our holiday amazing. The food was different every day and always tasty. Drinks were good (and strong ) Along the beach to the right was a lovely juice bar called Aladdins and abit further down was Dominoes beach bar. We absolutely loved it in there and was made to feel so welcome! We went to the reggae night there on the Friday, this was great and the drinks are so cheap. The guy who works there (Modu) is so lovely and helpful. We visited the monkey park (an absolute must do) and it was one of the best experiences I have ever done, and only for £3! We love it that much we have already booked to come back next March!

We spent 3 Weeks at the sunset Beach in Gambia. We had an Amazing experience in this Wonderful place, a Swimming Pool and a restaurant directly on the sea. Very good food with the All Inclusive formula and a lot of Variety. Beautiful and clean rooms, the people from the staff are very Nice and they really care about The costumers. Really a special Thanks to Rania from the Staff for she’s attention about our experience in the Hotel.

This was our first time in Gambia. The hotel was right on the beach and a perfect location. The staff were always smiling and happy. Always happy to help. The food was always fresh and had enough variety for everyone. A special thank you to Aisha who kept us smiling and entertained. Going to miss my water aerobics. To Milton for being so friendly and chatting to us about Gambia. To Amadou for making my fresh omelette every morning. They were the best. To Alex for always keeping our room clean and the special little touches he left us. To Ricki in guest relations for showing me around the newly renovated rooms. We had a beach bungalow which had plenty of room and all the amenities. Can highly recommend this hotel.

Great location, right on the beach. It's a 3.5 star hotel but really very nice and clean. It's very secure (entry gate to premises and guards on the accesses to the beach). This is good as there will always be chancers hanging around on the beach trying to entice you into all sorts of stuff! All inclusive deal when I went and the food is plentiful and actually very good. I had one of the bungalows which was absolutely fine but there are more modern and recently renovated rooms available in a new block. I came for the birding so was out very early every morning, and although my room was a few rows back, you can hear the nightly entertainment but it stops at 10pm so it's not bad. A variety of bands, drumming groups etc. The staff are fabulous. SO friendly and genuinely interested in you and the quality of your stay. Pools are clean and always being tended to. For me, the best bit was the most amazing Hady who works at the on premises STAR SPA. I had a series of three massages and I can honestly say she is the best masseuse I have ever used anywhere in the world (and I've used a few). I walk and carry photography gear for hours every day and she managed to completely unlock my neck and back. The guys who run it (Ahmed and Sacha) are so friendly too. Highly recommend booking yourself in there if you can. I didn't venture out for shopping or social life being a woman on my own, but the Gambian birding association is just by the hotel entrance and there are always very professional and knowledgeable guides there who will drive you right from there. There's so much to see away from the built up area. I'd definitely go back as it's low key, friendly, affordable, clean and good value.

1) The first thing is the room. We stayed in room D2, the room itself is ok, the bathroom is dirty. The shower screen is fitted opposite end to the shower head, which means when you have a shower water just spills all over the floor, that's of course if you can get the shower to work. The shower head is held in place by a tacky bit of plastic so when you set the shower to come down vertically it just pings straight back up and hits the wall horizontally 6 feet up, gave up trying to use it as a shower and just hand held it. The tap in the sink is a mixer tap which you flip upwards to turn on, unless someone puts a shelf right above it and you struggle to turn it on and even if you do the water barely trickles out. It was not just us, we arrived with 2 other couples who the next day paid to upgrade their rooms. 2) The food - in a word disgusting. The salad bar and fruit/suite trolley we didn't touch, they are all open and getting warm and a breading ground for bacteria. The hot food was luke warm and it was just a case of trying to pick something that was edible and wouldn't give you an upset tummy. One night I just eat a roll and butter. I got to day 10 before I had an upset tummy which lasted for 2 days. On the plus side both me and my wife lost half a stone. 3) This is the most disturbing thing. I was sitting on my sunbed chatting to a lovely old lady and when she went to go back to her sunbed a tree branch came crashing down, the end of it just catching her arm and foot and she had some minor bruising. Now this branch dropped from maybe 40 - 50 feet and went with a fearful cluck when it his the floor, the ends of those branches are quite chunky and but for the grace of god this wasn't 2 - 3 feet the other way otherwise she would have been seriously injured. Everyone around the pool area was shocked. The thing is, this wasn't an isolated incident, 1 day later a branch came down outside someone's apartment, in all 5 branches came down. The hotel did get someone in to go up the trees and cut the dead branches down but he didn't do all the trees and another came down outside someone's room again. Whenever my wife and me walked to the pool area or the bar we were constantly looking up to make sure we didn't get hit, it's the only holiday were we feared getting injured. I don't suppose anything will ever get done about this until someone gets seriously injured, I just hope and pray this never happens

I visited Sunset Beach Hotel March 2026 for two weeks. I stayed in one of the bungalows which has everything you need. The hotel staff from the front desk, gardeners, housekeeping, animation and catering staff are wonderful. It would be a discredit to name specific people as every single person was a credit to the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. The food was wonderful, something different everyday, but should you fancy something different there are restaurants and beach bars nearby. The WiFi connection wasn't the greatest but that could have been my phone as it's ready to be upgraded. The next time I go to Sunset Beach, and yes, I'm most definitely going again I will purchase a Gambian sim card. Looking forward to returning soon.

My stay at this hotel was an absolute pleasure. From the very first moments, you can feel the unique atmosphere. The place has an amazing vibe and creates a warm, almost family-like environment. You instantly feel comfortable and well taken care of. Huge credit to the entire team, especially the bartenders and reception staff. Sam, Buba and Assan are simply the best. They are always smiling, helpful and genuinely great with guests. You can tell they truly enjoy what they do. A special mention also goes to the manager, who is incredibly kind, attentive and dedicated. She really cares about the guests’ comfort and makes sure everyone feels welcome and appreciated. It truly makes a difference. The food is absolutely amazing as well, with plenty of great options to choose from. There is definitely something for everyone, including very good choices for vegetarians. Definitely a place worth coming back to. Highly recommended.

Small hotel only 86 rooms, Everything close to pool, restaurant, reception etc Food was a bit basic , not a great selection of fruit and the same everyday. Staff very helpful , we arrived after 10:30 pm and buffet was closed , but they offered us something to eat which was very helpful of them. Room was. Basic. Very comfortable bed and pillows. A bit tired and maintenance work needed in some areas. WiFi not great in areas. I’d recommend the hotel.
