The Kairaba Beach Hotel

I’m genuinely disappointed with my stay. From the moment I arrived, there has been no WiFi access in my room, which is unacceptable—especially for a hotel at this price point. I reported the issue immediately via the 24/7 WhatsApp line and followed up again the next morning. Unfortunately, there has been no resolution, with staff advising that IT is not currently on-site. In the meantime, I’ve had to use all of my personal mobile data just to keep up with work. What’s most frustrating is the lack of urgency or communication. I’ve requested a room change if the issue cannot be resolved, as I still have one more night remaining, but have yet to receive any update. For a hotel of this standard, reliable WiFi is not a luxury—it’s a basic expectation. Sadly, this experience has fallen well below that. I would not recommend staying here if connectivity is important to you.

Having had over fifteen years of wonderful stays at this hotel prior to management changes and quality shifts, it is disappointing to find that, despite the assurances of updates and improvements having been made, this once beautiful hotel is still sadly lacking in the basics. As previously, the staff are lovely, helpful and genuine and the grounds are well maintained with lovely plants and wildlife. But the rooms are still not beyond three star. Leaking A/C resulting in flooded floors, dirty and rusty fridges, drawers falling apart, poor quality towels and sticking bathroom doors with gaps in the framework. Remarkably the beds are comfortable. Weekends when the hotel is overrun by noisy outside guests invited in for a small amount to use the facilities does not allow for relaxation and rest when genuine holidaymakers have paid hundreds of pounds for the same. The staff are trying hard to make this work but until management listen to their opinions and put the hotel back to the quality it once offered we will continue to go elsewhere within this beautiful country.

Kairaba Beach Hotel We liked it here - perhaps a bit old fashioned, but nice staff, pleasant gardens with decent pool area/sunbeds, well-equipped gym and in an excellent position. No noisy entertainment nor loud noisy activities - all low key. We has an upstairs superior room, which had two comfortable single beds pushed together, two two-seater sofas and a desk area light by day but with good black-out curtains for night. Room slightly dated but clean and spacious with quiet aircon, decent wifi, flat screen TV, fridge, tea/coffee facilities, bath with shower over and separate shower cubicle. Outside there was a wrap-around balcony with sea view, which always had a bit of shade but was inclined to be a little breezy. Breakfast with cereals, omelet/pancake station and plenty of fresh fruit. Direct access to beach with steps down across rocks - sea tends to be a bit rough and strong currents but shallow for a long way out. At low tide could walk several kilometres either north or south on firm sand. Less than five minutes walk to "the *****" with currency exchange, small mini marts, taxis and a wide range of restaurants - more than enough to go to a different one every night for two weeks! Very glad that we'd stayed B&B rather than at an all-inclusive resort, so that we could support local shops and restaurants. Recommended - but not if you like glitzy modernity and lots of noisy activities/entertainment.

good value for money this hotel. Classic descent rooms with silent air and big balcony. lovely big pool with clean water. Right at the beach as well. Rates are cheap. for that price you get a great breakfast, was positively surprised. Yes all is in need of refurbishment but for the price paid, I would happily come back. Staff are mostly older than the surrounding hotel staff are which makes for a bit more character present, sometimes a bit weird or unfriendly or stubborn but it did not spoil my holidays. It used to be the top notch hotel in Gambia a decade ago. Very centrally located but still very quiet.

After booking i contacted the hotel and arranged our room. It was perfect, quiet cool and with a beautiful sea view. The bed was comfy and we slept well. The gardens and pool are beautiful. I have known this hotel for over 20 years and its fortune has varied. It now seems on the up again and i will deffinatly book again.

The staff was amazing. I got a room with a garden view and turned into a bird watcher. It was so beautiful. Breakfast had an omelette station. Nice pool. Access to the beach just a few minutes walk. I will return.
