Hilton Sandton

If there were another Hilton’s in Johannesburg, that is where I’d be staying. But there is no other option for a loyal Hilton guy like me, so I spent 10 nights at the Hilton Sandton. I will readily admit that from day-to-day, the staff and the facilities were absolutely wonderful. Staff were friendly and accommodating, the Executive Lounge was very well serviced, the restaurant was excellent, the hotel grounds superb, the Business Centre efficient. I had pre-arranged airport pickup and daily business rides through the hotel and our driver MORGAN proved himself many times over to be reliable and flexible thoughout my stay. However, both the checkin and checkout process with the Front Desk were distasteful, disturbed my entire stay, and made me wish I was somewhere else. I had reserved and prepaid for a King room; as a long time Diamond member, I naturally expected some sort of upgrade, especially since I was staying for 10 nights. After 18 hours of flights, and a further 24 hours of layover, all I wanted to do was sleep. I had checked in online and knew my room assignment. At the Front Desk, I handed over my American Express Hilton card, and passports for my wife and I to HOWARD (“an experienced Front Office team member” according to hotel General Manager JOHN MCAREE). At first, HOWARD could not find my reservation and, next, once found thought it had been cancelled and, next, thought the reservation was in my wife’s name (it was not), and finally when he found the reservation, took a copy of my wife’s passport (but not my own for some unknown reason). I then had the temerity to ask if there any possibility of an upgrade. “Oh no no no” said Howard. “Why not” I asked. “Because you checked in online. Once the room is assigned, there is no changing it” said HOWARD. I knew from experience this was rubbish and not in compliance with Hilton policy or procedures. Indeed, when I checkedin online, the Hilton website said that an upgrade would be made available if possible. So I gently persisted in my questioning, and Howard gently insisted that no upgrade was possible since I had checked in online. I believe it was only when I asked for the business card of the General Manager that HOWARD checked with a colleague and, indeed, an upgrade was magically offered. It was the lowest level of upgrade possible, but something is better than nothing. I thanked him for the upgrade, and again asked for the GM’s business card. They had none. Indeed, they wrote down his name for me (three times with three different spellings) but did not know his phone # or email address. (I later googled him and got both). Perhaps due to this little interaction, HOWARD forgot to tell me about the Business Centre, the gift shop, the free shuttle to the local mall, hotel restaurant hours, the WIFI code, the hotel spa, or any of the other hotel services. He did mention the Executive Lounge several times in a tone approaching reverence. Never in my 20 years of experience with Hilton

Davinci Hotel on Nelson Mandela Square

Sandton|0.33km from downtown
Very disappointed after our stay at The DaVinci Hotel. I was thoroughly looking forward to this stay as I have not stayed in this hotel before and it had been on my list, check in took quite long, which didn't bother me initially but ended up being a compounding factor after everything else, we had booked online and it took close to an hour for us to get checked in and given our room key, we used this time to look around. When we finally got to our room, we quickly left everything and went to the mall then had dinner, we got back relatively late and only upon getting back did we notice the bed was 2 single beds pushed together, however we booked and paid for a delux king room, needless to say I spent the duration of the evening falling through the 2 beds as I was trying to cuddle my lady, so I didn't get much sleep to say the least. When we got up in the morning I quite badly needed a coffee to wake me up after the night I had and Lo and behold, the coffee machine was not working! By this point you can imagine the frustration.. so we got dressed and went down for breakfast, the process of simply getting a coffee took close to 40 minutes, let alone the food arriving! We actually ended up getting up and leaving because we had plans for the day and did not expect to wait over an hour for our breakfast to arrive! The cold food that was available at the buffet was very dry as well but we scoffed it down and went on our way, it was only while we were walking out that the juice we ordered when we arrived was beginning to make its way to our table, so we were given the bottle and we went on our way We mentioned the incorrect room as well as the coffee machine to the lady at the checkout desk, to which I was reassured that next time we stay it will be nice I can very confidently confirm that there will not be a next time from us, as we do expect a certain service when checking into a 5 star hotel and paying the price that comes along with it On a positive note, the concierge was helpful with taking our luggage to the room Such a pity for a lovely perfectly located place to put such little effort into the quality they provide

I stayed at the Da Vinci on several occasions over a few years (last stay in 2019). I kept choosing this hotel systematically each time I come to Johannesburg, without even looking at other available hotels, whether I came on family vacation or for business, because of the consistently great experience (room and services), which is what I did this time too. However I was very disappointed with the service, which was incomparable from what I had experienced all the previous times: - The reaction when my key card just got deactivated and had to be reactivated; - On the 2nd day and morning that we left, there was no shower gel for us to use - probably removed but not replaced. - The breakfast was quite appalling: The choice and quality of food is nothing like what it was up until 2019. I stayed one night in a basic holiday inn in SA and the choice and quality of the breakfast buffet was 10 times what you now offer. We had to wait for a table. The service is very slow for something as basic as hot chocolate, and even longer for eggs. - On the last day we needed to leave the hotel at 7.00 to take our flight. We were told breakfast started at 6.30 but actually at 6.30 the buffet was still being set up, the ”hot” dishes were entirely cold with no heat under the hot plates which were lit up close to 7.00, no juice until we left, we could not choose a table because they were still mopping the floor and asked us not to go in that area... All this was quite disappointing. For me, the Da Vinci was THE hotel to go to in Johannesburg and I have recommended it to many friends and colleagues. But not anymore. The only sign of the level of service I knew the Da Vinci hotel for was the concierge staff on the ground floor when we left. But other than that it was a disappointment.

Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton, Johannesburg

Johannesburg|0.25km from Nedbank Group Limited - Transactional Services
I chose the hotel because of the location. From the airport a train runs to Sandton Station in 20 minutes, from where it is just 600 meters on foot. The hotel even offers a free shuttle service (also) from this station. However, this is not advertised in advance. The security measures in the entrance area give a good feeling. The lobby is on the 13th floor. It is spacious, only the bar in the lobby could use a better lighting concept (too dark). Easy quick check-in, I received a room upgrade (due to status). The room definitely had a wow factor. A corner room so that you could see out to several sides... from the 22nd floor... one side ”skyline” the other side an unobstructed view. Lots of light. The furniture is older vintage but is functional. The windows could be better maintained, one didn't close properly, the other was cracked. The breakfast was solid in terms of selection and quality. The atmosphere could be more inviting. The restaurant has a slight canteen atmosphere, especially at dinner. The evening menu could also use local/regional dishes. I had a steak there, very good! The check-out was a bit chaotic, as the room had already been paid for (partly by card, partly by points) and the deposit for the restaurant (including one-time use) it seemed a bit too complex. Since I had to leave, we agreed on an invoice by email. This didn't come by itself but only when asked. Special commitment: since I was unfortunately attacked and my cell phone was stolen, I was provided with the shuttle service to the police station and the driver was at my side for the formalities there.

I visited TL a few times and I’d like to just make a few notes based on my own experiences. Readers discretion is advised! Firstly this building is state of the art with the newest of technology & the views are UP there next to God! 😃 The apartments come in 3 colour schemes and have marvellous marble table tops and flooring! I have stayed in 3 different residential apartments so I know they definitely changed a few elements as they went up each floor.. The 2 bedroom apartment was fully equipped. The only hack upon sitting in the living room is that you will think the remotes don’t work because the decoder is closed in the tv stand drawer and has to be opened when you operate the tv ( I don’t think they thought much about that element when they ordered the tv stands as it’s an element that kinda makes the ergonomics in the space look weird) Long story short, I had to call reception for assistance only to find that the trick is just to open the drawer .. and then bam.. TV starts working! 😕 -I mention this because it’s definitely happened to someone else! I can bet on that! One little personal touch that I loved is that the cloths in the bathroom were wrapped in a lavender stick which is quite refreshing for hotel towelling that is used time and time again! ( I’m yet to still come across a hotel that bothers to put sta-soft on their hotel towels 🤔) - weirdly I only found this on the apartment in the 31st floor and it was sad to see that this doesn’t occur in the 26th floor! Hehehehe ... “we getting lazy in housekeeping as we move up the floors aren’t we ?! 👀 “ Speaking about the housekeepers.... they are loud. Will answer phones while cleaning and their behavior was very unbecoming as they get especially excited if the other room in the apartment is not used as it’s less work for them (which I understand) but it doesn’t come as very professional when said out loud. One of the bathrooms had a drain on the floor next to the shower door that really gave off a bad peel smell. I don’t know if they are aware of that or have any intention of fixing it though but it would be bad to make guests sleep through that kind of problem and expect a great review. I remember just blocking the drain with the bathroom bin but it was a bit frustrating as it got in the way of the door of the toilet. They definitely did not have this kind of a problem on the 26th floor though so I don’t know if it’s an oversight when they were tiling as they moved up the floor. The air conditioning control in the 26th floor is conviniently placed near the bedside light whilst the controls on the 31st floor is by the door of the room.. a bit of hack to get up and switch things on an off by the door if you ask me.. Also , Whyyyyyyyy is there no bed turnover service with chocolate on the pillows in the evening???? I thought the idea is to pamper guests 😌 Or better yet just a lovely fruit basket to welcome guests in the apartment (or wine for that matter) 😤 - I’m starting to thin

Disliked: I honestly feel like the pictures posted on Bookings.Com are a total misrepresentation of what one walks into. We walked into an apartment that looked empty. The lounge area to be precise looked like our furniture was repossessed or we were new tenants waiting for furniture to be delivered. It looked cold and unwelcoming. The pictures on the other hand showed a fully furnished apartment with carpets and or a table in the middle of the lounge. 90% of the TV channels gave error 48-32, and the channels that play without a problem are kids channels. Apparently, the area has signal problems. The cutlery and crockery was a joke, 1 eating fork, 1 spoon, 2 steak forks, 2 teaspoons, 3 butter knives, no bread knife or chopping knives. 4 pots, only 2 of those pots have lids. Only 1 small serving dish, the other one had no lid. When we checked in, we had to pay R200 damage fees, which we were aware of, however, no one walked us to our room for an inspection, despite having paid the damage fee.....when we got to our room, the kettle lid was broken, the cabinet door on the island was broken... The accommodation is located on Grayston drive. It's a busy street, so obviously, there are no silent nights. So if you are hoping for a quiet day or night l, this won't be a place for you. The same night we checked in, we wanted to cancel our reservation and book somewhere else. Unfortunately for us when we went to reception, the reception was closed and we couldn't be assisted. for a place located in Sandton I had high expectations and they were definitely not met.

Johannesburg is not as safe as Cape Town so you need to put yourself somewhere safe when traveling there. Sandton is a better area and there is a big shopping mall right next to this hotel and you can find everything there including a supermarket, shops, & lot of restaurants if you don't want to eat in the hotel restaurant. They have parking in basement too with metal gate for an additional R55 per night which I found it reasonable. In general, staffs are helpful and nice, great location, great food in the hotel restaurant too. I will definitely stay there again if I would go to Johannesburg again.

We travel in December for a week with my family...I have seen some pics on the Internet and in reality it is not the same..the place is very old..the ac in the living room was out of order,we did not have keys with our room door to be safe,we ask for a cloth rack to be put in the room cause we didn't have one ,we never received it...I was in my period one night and the bedsheets got dirty with blood stains and my towels was dirty,I explain my situation and ask a new towel they told me to wash it my self.my bed sheet was not changed even if it was dirty, I remove it on my bed, I put it on the floor I sleep on a naked bed .one day they have done the rooms, they removed the bath towels and never replace them, when I ask on the reception they say they are not a hotel and they do jot have towels to give me.the dryer machine is not even hot and the cloths still wet ,the washing machine make a lot of water on the floor...this was my honest opinion...pls do some maintenance on the place .thanks

After multiple emails to management about issues experienced they have simply ignored me. I'm beyond disappointed and will certainly heavily discourage anybody form visiting this establishment. There are serious issues with value, particularly the most SHOCKING bed and pillows I have ever slept on, ”tired” rooms in ill repair (flooring and fake grass in particular), no backup power, most basic package of TV, banking issues upon arrival. Overpriced for what you get. Pity, it could be good - but it's like a ghost town running on fumes. No vibe, nothing happening, no feedback from management, just an expensive place to get a bad night's sleep during load shedding.

I think this is the best hotel in Johannesburg. I would say the Saxon far superior than the four seasons west cliff as the service and attention to detail by staff is top of the line? The restaurant is amazing. I would personally like to thank Sabelo Ngubeni for his amazing service during my visit to SA.
