Costa Rica Guesthouse
"I stayed in a 4-bedroom dorm, great space, several guest houses and accommodation combined. I could use the pool and the restaurant of the backpackers next door. Check in smooth, easy, friendly staff, coffee for free. I picked the location as it was central yet not right downtown. Great Irish bar around the corner. The only thing you need to be aware of is the nearby train tracks. The train signals when passing, yet none passed at night, so all good."
Fleur de Lys
"I unexpectedly liked the hotel's decor. Although the room didn't have air conditioning, it did have a fan, so San Jose wasn't hot at all in the evening. The room wasn't large, but it had everything you needed. While bottled water wasn't free, there was a coffee machine to make complimentary coffee. Rooms on the second floor required climbing stairs. Breakfast was simple and delicious, including bread, eggs, rice, fruit, coffee, tea, and hot milk."
Jungla Urbana, Bnb
"The staff were very friendly and welcoming. There is a Mexican restaurant and supermarket nearby. The room is clean and comfortable. Great value for the price."
Radisson San Jose Costa Rica
"An old hotel with high ceiling and spacious room. The included breakfast is better than I expected, there are a few hot dishes. Not much around the hotel."
Viajero San José Hostel
"Since I couldn't get on the plane at Hong Kong Airport and the airline refused to let me fly (there is evidence to prove it), I contacted the hotel to check out in time. The hotel customer service said at first that it was OK, check out! Later, I contacted the hotel again, but they didn't reply to my message, kept making excuses, and kept saying it was pending. As of now, 6 days have passed, and the hotel customer service has not replied to any message."
Gran Hotel Costa Rica, Curio Collection by Hilton
"I honestly wish I can give this horrible hotel less than 1* because I’ve never stayed at a hotel with worst customer service than this disgusting hotel. I paid around $550 for 3 night and even toothbrush and toothpaste weren’t provided when I asked for it. I was told that they didn’t have it. No slipper or bathroom were in the room. The light switches were awkward and hard to figure out. The safe wasn’t working and when I called the reception, whoever answered the phone hung up the phone on me. They made me feel bad arguing with them on another occasion when they wanted to charge me for a having a visitor in my room. They copied the visitor ID and had the visitor sign a couple of form. A disgusting person name Jorge at the reception desk was the meanest I’ve ever seen at any hotel and I’ve been to hundreds of them. After arguing with him in front of the guest that the guest is not there to spend the night, he embarrassed me and said that “you will be charged next time if you have another visitor”. The breakfast was that of 1* star hotel. It was awful and even things as simple and basic as cheese didn’t have it. This hotel didn’t make me feel appreciated or welcomed. I felt under constant surveillance and that’s not right. Look at they supply in the bathroom for over $175 a night! Never seen anything like that anywhere else. I highly DO NOT recommend it."
Bee Suites San Jose - Escalante
"We were very satisfied with our stay. The room and rooftop view were wonderful. We were traveling by rental car, so the free parking was very helpful. The room was generally stylish and very clean. It might be better if they added a kettle to the kitchenware. We booked two rooms, but one of them smelled of cigarettes when we entered, but they offered us an alternative room when we contacted them. I recommend it. Thank you."
Hilton Garden Inn San Jose la Sabana
"Just a perfect place to stay in San José. With a Taxi you are in 5 minutes in the city center and the nice park is one step away from the hotel. With a free parking, pool, gym, … provide the hotel useful amenities. The stuff is very friendly and helpful."

Hotel Santo Tomas / Historical Property
"Undiscovered gem of a hotel near San Pedro. Pros: We were looking for a place on the lower end of the price spectrum that was a one night romantic getaway for two, that I could also use my free trip coins at toward the cost of the room. Preferably including breakfast and a swimming pool with jacuzzi 😉 Not much to ask! We booked one of the cheaper rooms on the ground floor. Before check in we took an Uber to San Pedro mall to do some essential shopping and see a movie. Then we checked in and I relaxed in the jacuzzi under the San José night sky while my husband enjoyed a full workout in the gym/weights room. TV with cable was great for my husband who enjoyed the football while I enjoyed the hot shower and relaxed in the bed afterwards. We had an amazingly comfortable sleep and a delicious breakfast in the morning of gallo pinto, fresh tropical fruits, freshly squeezed watermelon juice and hot coffee. A generous check out time of 12pm meant we had more than enough time to get our things together and leave when it suited. Cons: Not many cons at this price point and value. The guy at the desk was a bit weird when we asked him for a second glass for water as there was only one in the room but not a big deal. We also had to ask him for the TV remote. The towels were a bit small like a mini dress on me after my shower. But good quality (with a third extra towel for the jacuzzi) and high quality bed linen. It also is in a slightly rough looking neighborhood but this is not a problem if you travel to and from the hotel by Uber or use a hire car (which you can park privately inside the property). Overall impression: The other photos on trip.com and similar booking sites do not do this hotel justice - it looks far better in person. It has real character since it is a restored historic hotel from an era bygone, but that is why everything is such high quality from the bed linen to the floor tiles. Everything is also in good shape and freshly painted. There a little hidden nooks around the hotel that make it very charming. The breakfast area is lovely and the jacuzzi, pool and water slide were a real highlight. We WILL be back."
Colours Oasis Resort Adult Only
"lovely place, clean and simple, lovely people, bit of a busy road, good breakfast."
Hotel Residence Inn Suites Cristina
"Perhaps this is typical of locals, but the hotel service was mediocre, and the breakfast staff were also unhelpful. The room was okay, but the lack of water and power during the day was incredibly frustrating, with no compensation offered. The washer and dryer were sold together for $10 per wash, but the clothes weren't very clean, and the dryer was practically useless. I won't stay here again."
Aloft San Jose Hotel, Costa Rica
"The best part was the free washing machine and dryer, which was super convenient for guests."
Hotel Quinta Avenida
"Just okay to crash for one night if you just want downtown location, privacy and hot shower"
Costa Rica Backpackers
"The staff were very friendly and even stored my luggage after check-out until the evening. I didn't have time to go swimming in the pool, but overall the room, common areas, and bathroom were all spacious and comfortable. There are nightclubs and bars within walking distance, but there was no noise at night, and there was a police station nearby so I didn't have to worry about safety."
Hotel Casa 69
"Is not a hotel, but rather a pension. Relatively safe area, which is important in San Jose. From the street, it is hardly to realize that it is a B&B. Bads in bad condition. However, for a night OK. Price - Performance is not entirely true ..."
Hotel Presidente
"Perfect location."
San Jose Downtown Suites
"Not far from Chinatown"
Parque del Lago Boutique Hotel
"The scenery outside the window is particularly good, the location is good, next to a park. The hotel is located in a safe area, but the breakfast is relatively simple and the bread stalls are less selected."
Balmoral Hotel San José CR, Historic District
"Great location, fantastic staff, spotless room, and an amazing breakfast. The black soup at the restaurant is divine! We have no regrets and are already planning to go back."
KC Hotel San Jose
"They are friendly, the treatment is correct. The restaurant staff a ten. A good hotel for a trip through San José. Recommendable."
