Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina

The hotel itself was nice. The room was good, and the location was perfect, being close to public transportation and the convention center. The cleaning and room service were consistent. However, I felt the M Club didn't quite meet my expectations especially after breakfast time.

This is a nice hotel, but may not be worth given the super high price. We greatly enjoyed the pool, but thats about it. Unfortunately, they were hosting a convention at the same time and everything was overbooked and over crowded. There was a long queue for everything! all the way from valet parking, to front desk check in, to waiting 20+ minutes for elevator, to getting a coffee at the cafe, ordering a drink at their bar, using the hot tub by the pool. I gave them this feedback and the staff just asked me to check with them next time before making a reservation. Thank a lot!

I just checked out of the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina after a two-night stay, and it was hands down the worst hotel experience I have ever had, largely due to a highly unprofessional front desk staff member named Ashley. When we checked in, Ashley told us we would be charged for parking but completely failed to activate the garage access on our room keys. We were trapped at the exit and had to go all the way back to the front desk to fix her ridiculous mistake, which caused a massive delay and almost made us miss a very important meeting. Furthermore, we had a $48 hotel credit for our stay, but Ashley only casually mentioned we could use it at certain hotel venues after she had already fully processed our checkout. She completely failed to warn us beforehand that the credit becomes void once you check out, causing us to miss out on using it because she didn't explain things clearly. On top of the frustrating service, the room was incredibly small and lacked basic toiletries like a toothbrush. To make matters worse, the glass on our specifically booked "view room" was absolutely filthy, completely ruining the scenery. If you don't want to have your trip derailed by staff incompetence and poor room conditions, I highly recommend avoiding this hotel.

Great views and comfort, but watch out for extra charges! I recently stayed at the San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina. While the hotel itself is very nice, I encountered an issue that significantly impacted my experience. Despite having booked and fully prepaid my stay through Trip.com, the hotel attempted to charge me an additional $45 per day plus tax for the so-called "Destination Fee" at check-in. After contacting the hotel, they refunded the fee after multiple letters and two weeks. This seems to reflect a policy of charging the Destination Fee by default, regardless of whether it has already been prepaid through third-party booking platforms. I worry that many guests either don't notice the charge or aren't aware that it may already be included in their booking. That being said, breakfast at the hotel was delicious and the facilities are generally high-quality. If the billing issue hadn't occurred, my stay would have been much more enjoyable. Overall, it's a lovely hotel in a great location—but guests should carefully check their bill and be prepared to follow up if something doesn't add up!
