Saint-Gervais-les-Bains Hotels & Accommodations

Although we own an apartment in beautiful Saint Gervais, it is currently undergoing refurbishment, and so, on two occasions recently, once with friends and once with my husband (and Max the dog) we’ve chosen to stay at the lovely new Le Saint Gervais Hotel and Spa. Saint Gervais has several hotel options, but none with quite this luxury or quite so modern. Given its location so close to the start of the village (and close to the new télécabine from Le Fayet which has been announced), it is very well placed to capture tourists, and as it is open all year round, both in the summer and winter seasons. There is so much to like about the hotel. It is spotlessly clean; rooms have balconies overlooking the mountains and the town; and the staff are friendly and attentive. The barman Louison deserves a special mention here, showing genuine warmth, welcoming our dog to the hotel, and attempting cocktails “off menu”. The restaurant is not due to open until August this year and so, as others have mentioned, breakfast is currently being served in a function room somewhat devoid of atmosphere. Breakfast itself is ok. Nothing to particularly criticise, nor get excited about either. The vacuum flasks of coffee are awful however!! I hope that once the restaurant is complete that the breakfast offering improves with perhaps coffee, omelettes etc served to order too. Rooms are air conditioned (which was a blessing the weekend we stayed) with fast and efficient wifi throughout the hotel. The spa area is small, and I think the hotel really missed the opportunity for an outside jacuzzi. Aside from a small outdoor pool and some loungers, there isn’t much to report outside. Overall, we loved our time at the hotel, and will be sure to return for drinks, meals, or special occasions even once our own apartment is complete. Thanks everyone!!

Sadly not a good experience. My main concern is for the staff. They are worked very hard and have their wages deducted for the smallest mistake. I saw one young man be told off for not replacing the ice bowl under the butter packs. The staff seemed lovely but the manager quite dominant. Room 10 has a hairdryer with exposed wires that has been sellotaped back to the wall. On the plus side, breakfast was good and the room was spacious and clean but overall it felt uncomfortable to see the way this hotel treated their staff

Monsieur Hugo L, je fais suite à votre réponse plus que lamentable sur notre commentaire, nous attendions votre réponse avec impatience et nous ne sommes pas déçu… Nous avons loué une chambre pour une nuit et nous avons mangé au restaurant le soir, nous avions vu les très bons avis sur Google et n’avons pas hésité. Arrivé à l’hôtel, l’accueil était moyen, on nous donne la clé et on nous indique même pas la direction pour trouver les chambres, en clair débrouillez vous…. Puis nous avons donc mangé le soir à l’auberge, quelle déception…. Le verre d’apéritif était rempli au 3/4 de glaçons, une honte … L’entrée très moyenne aussi, les st-Jacques étaient plutôt bonnes mais tout ce qui l’entourait était fade et sans saveurs…. Étonnant venant « d’un passionné de gastronomie » comme on peut le lire sur certains commentaires…. Le plat était très médiocre niveau goût et présentation, le filet de fera était trop cuit, bourré d’arêtes et fade, l’accompagnement était inexistant, nous sommes restés sur notre faim… encore une fois un passionné de gastronomie… Le dessert vous permettra de quitter la table en étant lever tellement il y a rien à manger, un goût inexistant et une texture plus que douteuse, la meilleure chose était un vulgaire biscuit sec… madame n’a même pas fini l’assiette… Pour finir nous avons pris une tisane à la camomille et à la verveine… je sais que l’eau est rare mais pour remplir une tasse complètement vu le prix, est ce du luxe..? Je vous joins la photo de cette fameuse tisane… une honte je n’ai jamais vu ça ailleurs ! Nous aurions dû prendre une photo de chaque plat mais nous avions un peu de respect pour l’équipe… Enfin, nous avons fait part de notre incompréhension au propriétaire de l’établissement sans mauvaise intention particulière bien au contraire, il nous a offert les apéritifs pour ensuite nous dire que c’était nous le problème et que c’était pas de notre goût… il faut assumer monsieur Hugo L. Nous partions pour ne pas spécialement mettre d’avis car l’équipe était très agréable dans l’ensemble en dehors du propriétaire. C’était sans compter sur ce même propriétaire qui a attendu qu’on règle pour se lâcher avec son comportement condescendant et pour nous rappeler que c’est nous le problème et pas lui. Monsieur Hugo L, vous êtes une honte pour tous les restaurateurs et pour votre équipe, vous n’êtes ni commerçant, ni bienveillant vis à vis de vos clients, vous n’acceptez pas la critique même constructive, pas professionnel et êtes à la rue complet par rapport à ce que devrait être un bon restaurateur. Rappelez vous que c’est les clients qui font votre CA…. Toute personne insatisfaite se fait limite agresser avec des propos pitoyable, très limite et pas professionnel du tout. N’hésitez pas à aller voir ailleurs ce que propose vos concurrents pour prendre exemple et vous améliorer… ou changer de métier, visiblement celui de restaurateur n’est pas fait pour vous. Let me confess that my previous experience of Ibis hotels on the Continent has been limited, and I'd not paid sufficient attention to the different Ibis sub-brands. So our stay at this Ibis Style was a revelation, and a pleasant one at that. We arrived just after midnight (after a race from the ferry at Genoa) and slightly fretting that things would be slightly shut-up, but none of it. A friendly welcome and assistance, then quickly off to our room. It was a comfortable 5-bed family room that coped with us and our two 20-something lads with ease. Thoughtful design (sockets and switches in all the right places) was very evident. The room was good value. And the breakfast was outstanding! Not too many french hotel breakfasts have me leaving nicely full, but this one did. Thoroughly recommended! And although we were just using the hotel as a one-night stopover, the village is gorgeous. We agreed that we must come back to stay a few days longer another time.

Good size room to accommodate two suitcases and two backpacks. Very comfortable bed and pillows plus a great rain head shower. Terrific balcony overlooking the Alps. Very friendly and helpful staff, plus good English spoken. Good dinner and breakfast available. Wifi reception quite poor. Quite room and quiet lounge available on each floor - with a bookcase to swap books? Ideal place to have as a base if you prefer multiple day walks.

This is a fantastic hotel. The moment you are welcomed in you get a sense of the care people have taken with building this hotel. Everything optimizes the use of space well, is practical, and very nicely laid out. The rooms themselves are very unique and allow for privacy (lower and top levels) and have tons of storage space. Immaculately clean, with all soaps, gels, and hairdryer. Came with 3 bottles of complimentary water. No mini fridge or microwave in these rooms. The communal area and lobby are really set for you to relax and enjoy your time. Oh yeah they have an arcade machine in lobby you can play for free with a friend. When we were stranded for the night and needed to wait at the hotel until 3am for a taxi, the front desk offered a reduced rate for us, gave us blankets to keep warm, toothbrushes, and offered for us to use the shower room. BREAKFAST: This was 13 euros—there are not many options at all in this area for breakfast so it is worth the money if you do not want to eat in Chamonix proper. Selection of toast, pancakes, Jams, honey, cheeses, hot options included scrambled eggs, mushrooms, bacon, sausages. Teas, coffees, granola, cereal, and crescents as well. Overall breakfast was plentiful - only criticism some things could have been warmer. DINNER They have their own herb garden in the back and the dinner we had was exceptional. Never would think hotel made! they locally sourced all their items and specify where. Our waiter Ciel was extremely hospitable—everyone at the hotel tried their best to help us. Drinks were best of trip. The fried rissoto and fresh cod were wonderful. LAUNDRY They have a laundry room: 5 euros for a wash; 3 euros for dryer. These are large machines and we were able to fit two peoples laundry in one. TRANSIT Tourists can get a free day time travel card to use in transits from hotel. Do note if travelling in night bus in Chamonix you will need to play 2 euros. Bus stop right outside hotel and 15 min ride to city Center. It’s the culture of the hotel that stood out to me. Everyone cares and will try to make your stay the best
