Hostal de la Gavina GL - the Leading Hotels of the World

It was a delight and pleasure to stay at this hotel. I was part of a family wedding party with guests from around the world and most of the groom's family from the UK. The setting of the hotel with its closeness to the sea has the most stunning views. The hotel has aged character furniture throughout. My superior room on the second floor was all I would ask for. The room was cleaned daily as was the modern bathroom. The bed linen was changed in line with the guest's wishes. Breakfast in the dining room had a range of dishes to suit most palates. The hotel staff were friendly and happy with a willingness to please. My booking was made as part of the wedding party. As I am walking disabled it was enquired as to whether there was a lift. As two lifts were confirmed I did not consider that there would be so many steps and stairs. To get to the lifts from reception I had to climb a set of steps, difficult with a walker. This meant I had to get help from family or reception staff whenever I wanted to go up in a lift or down to the reception area. To go outside there were steps from the main door or one step on to the terrace. My original superior room was on the third floor. On leaving the lift on the third floor there were several steps up to the hallway where the rooms were situated. There were no handrails. The hotel changed my room to the second floor but this took several hours. On the sunny days we enjoyed a drink on the terrace. However, the nearest toilets were down a long staircase where the candlelit restaurant was situated. I was able to access the dining room/bar through a ground floor area. Unfortunately the hotel was situated on a hill and I had not realised how steep this was. Therefore, Reception called taxis for me at all times. I do like to be independant and the lack of ramps, handrails, grab rails in the shower over the bath and highlighted step edges complicated what was otherwise a comfortable stay. The video of the hotel does not show the steps in any detail. I hope the hotel group will soon take steps to ensure this hotel respects those guests with disabilities and those guests who need flat floor access to the lifts. If you do not have "disability" needs this hotel is a great place to stay and make memories in Girona.

I highly recommend this hotel for its outstanding location and excellent condition. The staff are exceptionally welcoming, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. During my 4-day stay on a business trip, I found the hotel's ambiance and classic interior design so relaxing, it felt more like a leisure vacation than a work commitment. The overall experience was truly remarkable, making it an ideal choice for both business and leisure stays.

Absolutely one of the most amazing hotels we have ever stayed! Service is attentive and impeccable. The room is absolutely delightful overlooking the sea with a terrace. I would highly recommend that we will definitely be back!

Gavina is a beautiful and romantic old hotel that looks recently renovated. It is in a perfect location on a gorgeous coastline. We enjoyed the fact that it is away from the hustle and bustle of Barcelona but very sophisticated. One of the many aspects of this hotel we enjoyed was a hiking trail along the coastline and right outside of the hotel. The salt water pool was a perfect temperature and very clean. The food was exceptional (and we are New York snobs when it comes to food) and the staff was eager to be of service. Our room facing the water had a stunning view from our terrace. One night we ordered room service and had dinner on the terrace. It couldn't have been more romantic for a special anniversary. The only thing we would have hoped for was a more extensive spa. It is new and very small. This is a find if you are interested in the Costa Brava.

Outstandingly beautiful and wee maintained historic properties on Spain’s most dramatic and beautiful coastlines. Cannot say enough about the dreamy setting, excellent food, beautiful beach, and incredible hiking trails. The service was excellent with a well-trained staff in the art of genuinely welcoming hospitality. Truly one of the nicest hotels we’ve found in all our travels.

Hostal de la Gavina carries so much history and at the same time provides all the aspects of a five star + hotel: great location - take the walk (Carrer Josep Ensesa), amazing food (La Taverna), super friendly staff, a lot of charme, most comfortfable beds, well groomed tennis courts I took advantage of every day and a lovely public beach. The place catched me a lot and I am looking forward to a next visit soon.

Pros: Great location. Beautiful views and grounds and the terrace was lovely. Rooms are clean and well maintained. The town was a nice quiet relaxing change from Barcelona. Food was good (not amazing) but the breakfast was phenomenal. Cons: This is not a 5 star luxury hotel. Beds and pillows old and hard with a flimsy blanket (nothing plush like a typical 5 star). We ate any meals on the grounds and never once did our servers ever check how everything was, if we needed anything, etc. We had to hunt down someone for coffee each morning, we had to find our own towels at the pool (and when people left, their dirty towels remained out on chairs all day),. The pool did offer food you could order at the bar but one day they said they only had potato chips because they had run out of everything else! No access to chairs or umbrellas on the beach, never mind food or drink. You could bring a towel to the beach to sit on in the sun all day. Also, not the hotel’s fault but we did not know that in September almost all of the restaurants are closed Monday to Wednesday. Friends stayed at a 5 star hotel nearby and had twice the room and service for a much lower cost.

DO NOT STAY HERE. This hotel is horrible. Nothing about this is a "leading" hotel. We booked a "villa" that was worse than any US Airbnb you could even imagine. Beyond dated decor, terrible mold/musty smell, 1970's kitchen. Seriously, the worst. When we complained, they took us to a Grandma-style hotel room in the main house. Same smell and just overall awful. The area where the hotel is is also terrible. Do not be misled by believing this is a nice hotel. It is not. And, avoid Costa Brava generally. Do yourself a favor and drive a little further to the south of France. Or, another area of Spain. Don't make the same mistake we did.

HORRIBLE. Beyond dated. And gross. Complete disrepair. For US customers, you would be upset if you spent $100 for this hotel per night. But what's even worse? You will be robbed. Area is terrible generally, but this hotel is masquerading as a high end hotel and it is anything but. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid, at all costs.
