Although it is by the lake, it feels like being by the sea. It is very familiar and feels like a paradise. The room is not big, a bit old, but very clean and tidy. There is a small balcony. The breakfast is good, and there is a guy at the front desk who can speak Chinese.

I would argue the Serena Lake Kivu is more than a four star hotel with great facilities, good food and excellent breakfast, outstanding service from friendly staff. Best feature of the hotel is the wonderful beach front location and impeccable pool area. Very enjoyable!

The Serena Hotel in Lake Kivu was lovely. We had a great room with a lake view. Since we traveled with a guide we did not use any of the extra guest services but we did take a boat ride out to the Nyamyumbo hot springs which was quite an experience. The opposite of a hotel spa!
Staff were very pleasant and accommodating. I would recommend this hotel!

It’s a dated hotel. The restaurant service and food are great. It’s on Lake Kivu, so you can walk onto the public access of Lake Kivu. The wifi connection was OK. It’s good for a short stay. There isn’t a lot to do in Lake Kivu, we took a boat around the lake with a local arranged by our guide, but that’s about it.

Great lake view, beautiful landscape and relaxing place. It was a nice stop after hiking Volcano National Park. The property is a bit outdated. Carpet and chairs in our room had lots of stains. Bathroom door was dusty, but shower (hot water & pressure) was good.

OK, it's a typical hotel, rather than the interesting lodges we prefer to stay in, but it has excellent facilities, excellent staff and excellent food. It also has excellent views across the beautiful Lake Kivu - Rwanda's unspoilt treasure. The hotel also has a nurse - which was priceless for us as we had both picked up infections from altitude and maybe food, somewhere along the trail. The nurse, Hope, saw us at 6pm, took us to a nearby clinic in Gisenyi, where we saw the doctor, waited while laboratory tests were carried out, saw the doctor again, and then collected medicine from a pharmacy - all done by 7.15pm at a cost of about £20 each. We were well again in a day or so.

This is a huge, corporate hotel in the attractive lakeside resort of Gisenyi, on the border with the DRC. It is attractively designed, with a lovely pool and seating areas by the lake. Our room was comfortable, with a very nice bathroom. The staff were great and the meals delicious - with a wide variety of food served in a buffet style. We went on a very interesting boat trip for a 'coffee to cup' experience with Sheema's Ames boat trips. In the evening, I wasn't feeling great and was relieved to find there was a hotel nurse who was brilliant - within an hour, she had organised hotel transport to a clinic where I saw a doctor, had a lab test done, I was given a prescription which we picked up from a nearby pharmacy before being taken back to the hotel. The hotel was run with quiet, understated charm.

Had a business meeting at the hotel, the service was exceptional, food delicious. I had the oriental chicken dish. Unfortunately we did not spend longer as we had to get back to Kigali. My lunch guests had a mix of fish, fish curry, salads and followed by delicious cuppachinos

It is such a lovely place and good for families. The staff were very friendly and the food was great. It is such a lovely place, a peaceful town, and a great environment. I'll recommend it if you're looking for a place to relax and for kids to have fun
