Hilton Garden Inn Rome Colosseum

This is a very old building. Although it's been renovated, many parts are still in poor condition. The most outrageous thing is that the hotel is still undergoing renovations, so it's very noisy from construction, and there's a strong formaldehyde smell. Definitely do NOT book this hotel anytime soon.

The location is excellent, right above a subway station, and there's a small supermarket nearby for groceries. However, the towels and blankets have an overpowering fragrance, which seems to be a common issue in European hotels. The tooth cups are disposable plastic and quite flimsy.

The hotel's location is absolutely fantastic, right next to Manzoni Station on Metro Line A. You can reach it within a 20-second walk from the exit, making it perfect for travelers. Line A connects to most major attractions, and the Colosseum is just a 15-minute walk away, which is incredibly convenient.

I had to switch rooms twice because of a strong, unpleasant smell. As soon as you step out of the elevator, the hallway hits you with an intense, freshly renovated scent, and the room floors felt sticky, which was quite disgusting. I found out from the staff that this hotel was recently acquired by Hilton and wasn't originally a Hilton property. I had booked for two nights but ended up checking out early. The entire hotel just reeked of that smell. Big thanks to Trip.com for helping me with the refund coordination.

Overall, it was pretty good. The room was spacious, and so was the bathroom. There's also a free water dispenser in the lobby.

Cleanliness: Recently renovated, so the hygiene was decent. (When I checked in, the renovation wasn't fully complete, and there were construction workers everywhere, which made it feel rushed). Environment: So noisy! Loud! It's very close to the road, so there's constant noise from pedestrians during the day and cars and horns at night. The soundproofing is terrible; I could even hear the kid next door singing. Service: This was the ONLY hotel during my stay that required a deposit! (!Attention! The front desk asked for a tip when I checked out. I'm not sure if I misheard due to my English, but there's no tipping culture in Europe, so I firmly refused). Facilities: Pretty standard. The outlets having both C-type and USB ports was convenient. (The hairdryer was a rare standalone model, so you didn't have to keep holding down a button, which was a nice touch).

The soundproofing in the room wasn't great, but it was still quiet enough to sleep at night. There's a nice little balcony with a good view.
