I’m honestly baffled by the good reviews for this place. Id suggest avoiding at all costs, only positive about the place is the location.
We booked this place because of the parking and air conditioning it advertised as having. Upon arrival it was clear the parking was extremely limited (5 spaces) and the ‘on road free parking’ is a complete lie, there is no parking on the road outside the property (yellow lines) and there is only paid parking nearby at $5-10 per hour. Additionally the air conditioning was nonexistent, we complained to Trip as we had booked with them and they advised the hostel had told them all the rooms with air conditioning were fully booked unfortunately but that they would make alternative arrangements with us. No alternative arrangements or even an acknowledgement was discussed with us. Also, none of the rooms have air conditioning so they also lied to Trip, something from other reviews I’ve read seems to be a common theme, especially with over selling female only dorms which is deeply concerning. We had also planned to use the laundry facilities whilst here, but that is impossible given it is used by the staff for the hostels turnovers every day so it’s always full of linens and pilled high everywhere, which explained why the members of staff looked so confused when we asked where the laundry facilities were. Others also had the same issue with this one.
If these had been the only problems I could have looked past it but to be honest after a year of travelling and staying in hostels this was one of the worst ones I’ve ever stayed at. The whole hostel is run down and could do with updating. Upon entering you’re met with absolute chaos with piles of laundry stacked up in reception and stuff everywhere, the staff seemed chaotic at the best of times. There are 3 kitchens that clearly don’t have proper extraction so the entire building stinks whenever someone is cooking. There are only 5 bathrooms/toilets split across 3 floors for a 55 bed hostel I believe which caused huge queues and waits for the toilet as you waited for people to finish showering. Often meaning us having to go down several floors even late at night and wait for the toilet or others coming upstairs to wait. Again, wouldn’t be so much of an issue if they’d have been clean, but every time I used the bathroom there were hairs all over the shower and the top floor bathroom had no toilet seat the day we arrived so we went a full 24 hours with the only toilet on our floor not having a toilet seat. Lastly, if the fake amenities, dirty bathrooms and lack of customer service still hadn’t done it for us, the level of noise and banging in the hostel was incredible. Despite the ‘quiet hours’ we also had people blasting music from the bathroom across the hall from us until late at night, doors slamming and banging all night and just in general paper thin walls meaning you could hear everything and every conversation from all over the hostel.
