Baymont by Wyndham des Moines North

Saylor|1.76km from Bridgestone Agricultural Tire
I have patronized another hotel group for a number of years, but more recently I have travelled with a loyal Wyndham customer to a couple different Baymont hotels and liked them enough to choose Baymont over my old standby when I could. That’s why I booked a room at this Baymont (without reading reviews first, which I regret now) and why, in my opinion, it isn’t worthy of ANY Wyndham brand. I chose the “modern queen” room for a few dollars extra. When I checked in, the hotel lobby seemed clean and attractive but my room was in a separate building in the back. There the carpet in the entrance and steps looked filthy and was loose in places. The room looked as though some remodeling had been done, the bathroom vanity looked new, but the woodwork and furniture looked worn. A piece on the a/c unit was broken and the labels for the indicator lights were missing so setting it was a matter of guesswork. Went to turn on bedside lamps - they looked like they hadn’t been dusted in many days. Evidently there was a party in the “conference” room at one end of the building, and very loud music reverberated until well after 11pm making it difficult to get to sleep. In the bathroom the ceiling air vent was filthy, the vanity faucet was loose, there was a hole in the wall around the pipe for the shower head, and the flow valve was stuck. I tried to adjust the water temperature and finally got it to lukewarm thinking it would get warmer - instead it got colder. In the light of day the dirt in the hall and stairwell, missing paint on the bannister, worn out entry rug, and the exterior disrepair were even more evident as we walked to the breakfast room. That room was big and cheery but even it had a crack in a corner of the ceiling and damaged paint on the walls. Very little food was set out, nothing like other Baymont breakfasts I’ve enjoyed. A couple pieces of bread, a couple English muffins, a handful of grape jellies but no other flavors, honey or peanut butter, no fresh fruit. Coffee was not up to snuff. Even the tray on the ice machine was missing. In short, I would rather sleep in my car than waste good money on this hotel.
