We came to viva for my birthday celebration and It was amazing experience, Very relaxing. Beach was beautiful and food was delicious. They do have 3 restaurants and they all were spectacular. I have celiac but this resort took very good care of all my needs especially captain Oscar.

We had spent our best time there, It was full of fun. Everyday, Their were different activities to do arranged by the hotel staff. Jimena, Gisselle, Mauricio and other staff members are just awesome. This was our first time in Mexico but those guys made us feel like we know them from years. I would highly recommend this place as a best place for vacation. The food in the buffet was really good as well. Snacks and drinks by the pool area. Clean place all around.

This is a great hotel if you like getting up at 6am to put a towel on a sunbed and if you enjoy waiting in line to get drinks from a rude bartender. I stayed there for a week with my daughter. The hotel is in a lovely location, the beach is absolutely amazing! The buffet restaurant is very good, we loved the salad bar and the Mexican night! Unfortunately, my daughter got told off twice for putting toast with cheese on in the toaster- even though she doesn't eat cheese, but the food was good. The room was okay but we arrived to a clogged toilet. The cleaning lady quickly fixed that. The room smelled very bad of mold and we asked if they would please fix that - I did this 3 times during that week, the first time on the day of our arrival. When I mentioned it at check-out they said I should have mentioned it sooner so they could have fixed the issue... The room has a mini fridge with three sodas that does not get restocked. The hotel does not seem to want to serve drinks even though it is all inclusive. I managed to get 2 beers and three drinks at the bar that week. We did not see any of the entertainment at night because there were hardly any seats. It was a total waste of money...! Although I did get an amazing cup of cafe latte at the bar one morning (I wish I would have known that sooner)! Thankfully, I had booked our second week at the Riu Playacar - talk about a 5 star experience! They don't allow people to reserve beach chairs, there is a lovely buffet restaurant and 4 a la carte restaurants (no extra charge!), a fully stocked minibar in the room, no lines at the bar, service with a smile and they even serve drinks on the beach! Next time we will stay the entire time at Riu!

My husband and I just got back from a 2 week stay at the viva azteca. It is a beautiful resort. It is a small resort so nothing is more than 5 mins away from anywhere which was great for me as I have mobility issues, and so it doesn't feel overcrowded like other hotels. The staff here are incredible!!! Cleaning staff are cleaning the resort day and night it is immaculate. The food (buffet style) is different each night with different themes such as Mexican night, Italian night, American night etc. The choices of food are vast and everything is well cooked and very tasty. There are a few members of staff who need a special mention as they were our "holiday heroes" My husband has a very rare food allergy (onion) and this was explained to the dining room supervisors Tania and Oscar who were brilliant and ensured we spoke to the chef. Thank you both for your help! We were met by chef Manuel every evening and he cooked a separate meal for my husband every night. This ensured that his food did not contain onion and was also not exposed to cross contamination from other surfaces / utensils / equipment etc. We can't thank chef Manuel enough, he was an absolute star and ensuring my husbands food was safe meant that we could both relax and enjoy our holiday. Not only was his food fabulous but he was a truly lovely gentleman who was so friendly and helpful. (He even made me lime, hot water and baking soda mixture to gargle while I had a flu symptoms...and to be fair it worked! Thanks Dr Manuel ) Another holiday hero was Olver at the bar who was also friendly hard working and who my husband said makes the best coffee! Other info: Beds are extremely comfy Free purified water dispenser available in each hall so no need to buy big bottles of water which reduced plastic waste (water jug provided in the room). Iron. Ironing board. Hairdryer. Mini fridge .Large umbrella and liquid soap / shampoo/ shower gel dispensers all in the rooms. Large tv in room, but we had no channels...not sure if this is an extra (we weren't interested in the TV so did not enquire) Safe in the room (extra cost) Free WiFi onsite There are restaurants onsite too which you can book but we dis not try them due to allergy concerns) There is some local wildlife that you occasionally see on the resort such as one howler monkey (who we nicknamed Harry howler). He says in the tops of trees and on rooftops, he occasionally ventured down for an apple if someone offered one but he was no trouble at all / didn't steal / bother people. The occasional coati and agouti are seen on the grounds but again they leave people alone. There are fruit bats in some of the tress which was lovely to watch them between 5:30-6:30am flying back to the trees. Entertainment Most nights in the early evening there was a live singer / musician which were very good. Once a week the "square" hosts little craft stands A few evenings a week there was a mobile bar set up in the square serving 2 custom cocktails

This was our third visit to Mexico, but our first visit to a resort other than Cancun. We had a really good holiday, but a few small things being improved would have made it an amazing holiday. The evening entertainment team were incredibly talented and put on some great shows in the theatre, but they repeated weekly so if you watched every night you seen them twice in a fortnight. I got to know the daytime entertainment team by going to find where they played games, but they sometimes didn't go round the pool to ask for participants, so sometimes i missed the chance to take part. Food is always a really personal thing, i think they could have provided more plain options. Lots of times food was in sauces etc which didn't suit everyone. Snack bar at pool provided easy snacks and only issue was they didn't have any ice-cream. Bar staff were great and quickly new our orders and they worked incredibly hard. Downside as someone who doesn't drink was they ran out of Heineken 0.0 on 4 occasions, and this was the only non-alocholic option other than soft drinks. Room was really good, but we didn't have a table and chair on the balcony which was disappointing. Maids cleaned the room everyday and left towel art on the bed most days which was a nice touch. Hotel also provided a complimentary catamaran trip which lasted 30 mins and was great. Biggest issues were the wi-fi and the lobby bar. The wi-fi in the room was non-existent, the one place where you really wanted it. The lobby bar was incredibly warm at night and the ceiling fans just didn't do very much unless you were directly underneath it. Need to either add bigger and better fans or somehow put air-conditioning in. Also there is a members-area for bar service and beach sunloungers. We didn't join in and to be honest it never impacted our enjoyment. The number of small issues means we probably wouldn't come back. A solid 7 out of 10 on most things, but for what we paid it should have been 9 or 10 out of 10.

Great value, great location and most importantly the service was awesome and all the staff from front desk to the bussers and cleaning staff were always willing to help and took pride in their craft..resort is smaller but has everything you need minus a swim up bar..the a la carte restaurants were really good too..the buffet held its own but didnt have airconditioning so it was pretty warm in there but the food was always good..the snack bar during the day was a good lunch option too if you didnt feel like eating at the buffet..the gym was adequate but didnt have a/c so you would work up a sweat in no time which isnt a bad thing..the beach had tons of loungers and the pool area did too..the nightly shows were mostly dancing but it was great and entertained us every night..the bartenders were always willing to make you a good drink no matter what you asked for..Now for the not so great experience but its not the resorts fault…a lot of the clientelle at the resort werent too friendly and didnt even make eye contact when crossing paths..they wouldnt even thank you if you let them through first or held the door open for them and im not kidding..i was with my wife and two teens and always smiled or said a simple hello to other people we ran into but got nothing back..and that doesnt happen in canada at all..some were really rude and wouldnt get out of the way if you were walking and had right of way..and worst of all they asked the staff for a lot if things and were occasionally rude but didnt have the heart to tip them for their services considering how hard they worked..if you can bear with these kind of people this is a great place to stay and somehow me and my family learned how to ignore them the way they ignored us!!

We spent two excellent weeks at the Viva Azteca. The resort is really nice, the Beach is at is best, the Caribbean Sea anyway and all the staff is kind. The animation has diverse possibilities, everyone can find something and - it's not intrusive. Big hugs to Jimena, Tanja, Michel and Mauricio - you made it special. And not to forget thanks to the dancers and their wonderful Shows.

The food is great! We went to the oriental restaurant and it was fantastic. The buffet was excellent, drinks well made, the place is clean, the staff friendly. The beach is lovely white sand. Only complaint on the third floor, no elevator, so we get our exercise after eating so well
