The Maverick by Kasa

After a hard day of travelling, I did not appreciate the check in technology providing obstacles like not accepting confirmation numbers or forcing me to jump through hoops like providing license photos when all I wanted to do was to lie down. While the room itself was satisfactory, the heating system would not respond to commands so it was often too cold in the room. I would have appreciated extra packets of creamers left in the concierge closet, as well. I think, for me, in the future I will prefer a full service hotel.

Very nice and clean hotel. The virtual front desk attendants are very friendly and helpful. 100% recommended! Very unique layout of furnitures. Love it!

It's an odd or special, staff-free hotel in Pittsburgh. I was lucky enough to bump into one on the day of check in because the main door is locked with a code. Other than that, I only bumped into the cleaning crew in the morning here and there. The building is old and has character. It's quite attractive. The restaurant at the lobby is bloody expensive. I've never tried. The amenities: it's basically single use pour over coffee (regular and decaf). This is actually very damn good! There's also Breakfast tea by Harney and Sons. It's good too. The water machine has tap to cool to hot, and lightly sparkling to very, on top of various flavors. It's fun. This hotel does not have breakfast - only a Nespresso machine that didn't work for me in the lobby between 8 to 12. The Gymnasium is the old timey YMCA open space when it was used for people back when. It is not an actual modern gym. There is also an event space on the second floor.

The hotel was unique, pretty, and well kept. I enjoyed my stay. I thought the furnishings, though nice, new, and appropriate for the setting, were a bit odd, and that the space was laid out in a strange way, especially with a bathtub placed outside the bathroom. If my husband had been with me, I wouldn’t have enjoyed climbing out of the platform bed right next to the wall; as it was, since I was by myself it was pleasant and comfortable. I was also surprised by a $250 damage allowance required on my card after I made my reservation. I’m not used to that at a hotel. There was a lot of noise/loud music from the bar downstairs, but it didn’t bother me because it stopped right around 10pm. I didn’t know before going that there was no on-site parking, but free street parking was available close by. The “virtual front desk” attendant replied to my texts. In all, the environment was nice, and the experience was ok—felt like using Air BnB versus a hotel.

Not enough outlets in the room. Bed was on the floor pretty much. Room was very small. There was a weird smell in the room. I wouldn't trust the public parking out back.

Check in horrible, carpets stained in corridor, coffee service in lobby supposed to occur 8-2, never functioning until at least 9. Baseboards in room caked in filth. Lobby restaurant under construction. Egress doors in vestibule are literally a hazard to open when entering, no landing on lobby door that swings towards you. Ridiculously poor quality
