Grand Mercure Hotel was closed actually. I was trying to contact the hotel but no reply. However trip.com help me out , and found out my booking was transferred to the Mövenpick Hotel. I was so blessed. Great location, just right infront of the Petra Visitor Center. Great breakfast, kind staff. Free minibar. Thank you Accor Hotel group.

The hotel was a 5 min drive from petra away from the hustle. The staff were so friendly and helpful especially Khalid the restaraunt manager he went out of his way to ensure we got what we needed.
The views from the hotel were amazing

For various reasons, we were upgraded to Movenpick Resort Petra, which was incredibly lucky, as the upgraded hotel's location is fantastic—right across from the entrance to the Petra Scenic Area, just a few minutes' walk away. The hotel breakfast was also excellent, and the front desk staff were very friendly, recommending restaurants and assisting with currency exchange, etc. Highly recommended!

I booked online through Mercure, but actually arranged to go to MovenPick because Mercure was closed. MOVENPICK is a very good hotel, right at the entrance of Petra. It is clean and highly recommended.

I originally booked this hotel, but the hotel upgraded me to another Movenpick in front of Petra, which was very convenient! ! ! !

The hotel is absolutely not a 5 star, but the rooms are clean and comfortable.
Very nice view from the hotel, breakfast and buffet need improvement.
Very friendly staff, generally recommended if on offer.
Petra is everyone’s dream place to visit. There are some very good options to stay in Petra right outside the archeological site. Movenpick Nabatean Castle or the Grand Mercure Plaze is about 10 minutes’ drive, but it’s perched on top of a hill with excellent views of the vicinity. The Hotel is top-notch, very luxurious. The lobby is gorgeous, and the décor of the hotel is quite stunning. The restaurant is extremely good, tons of options to eat from in the buffet. You will certainly have everything you wished for at breakfast and dinner. We had two connected rooms which made things very convenient for us. The staff was great. This resplendant hotel greatly enhanced the wonderful memories of our trip to Petra

The hotel is still closed. It looks lovely but we were turned away at the gate and sent back to Wadi Musa where our booking had been transferred to the Movenpick opposite Petra visitor centre. This was brilliant, but I had emailed a couple of months ago to double check and confirm my booking following reviews on Tripadvisor, and was advised that my booking was confirmed.
Response from Property: Dear Liz F, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Please accept our sincere apologies for any confusion caused. We strive to provide accurate information and regret that this situation affected your travel plans. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back under better circumstances. When we arrived the security man told us the Grand Mercure is CLOSED for MAJOR renovation. He was helpful, but his English wasn't very good. But we worked out we had been rebooked at the Movenpick in town. We were a little disappointed as we had chosen this hotel for the view. However the Movenpick MORE than made up for it. The staff and the food was marvellous. We were upgraded and the room was wonderful. This is a review of Grand Mercure, but the Movenpick was fantastic. My tip is to have PRINTED LETTERS the guard can hand you, to tell you what to do and also send an email explaining the situation. We ended up getting a good deal, but it was somewhat confusing.
Response from Property: Dear PJ-tw11, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the closure of Grand Mercure Petra for major renovation. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this transition. We're delighted to hear that despite the initial disappointment, your stay at Mövenpick Resort Petra meet your expectations. It's wonderful to know that our staff, food, and accommodations made your visit memorable. Your kind words are greatly appreciated and will be shared with our team. Your suggestions will certainly take it into consideration to improve our services during similar situations in the future. Once again, thank you for choosing to stay with us. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back for another fantastic experience. Warm regards, Abedrabo Twaissi Cluster General Manager

Stayed there overnight after a visit to Petra. It had a good breakfast and was very wheelchair accessible. They were in the process of adding a second ramp into the building when we got there. Service was very responsive. Security was a little lax versus what we had experienced in Amman (luggage scanning, metal detector, and wanding for customers) but I wasn't personally concerned about it. The walls were a little thin and you could hear neighbors rummaging around.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights while visiting Petra. Lots of reviews and YouTube vlogs recommended this hotel because of the view. Please don’t pick this hotel because of the view as that is all it really offers. Before booking, we researched and did our due diligence. Google Maps stated the hotel was a 7 min drive from Petra visitors centre. When we arrived those 7 mins were up a very very steep hill which you could not possibly walk into town in the evening if you wanted to. The hotel provide a shuttle bus, which is great- it leaves at 3 points during the morning to early afternoon and has 3 departures going back up the hill. If you need to go into town or miss the shuttle bus that is where the expense comes in. As Uber doesn’t operate outside Amman, you need to get a local taxi. For a short taxi ride the cost to go up the hill is 15-20JD (£17-23) which is outrageous. The hotel itself is old and very outdated which is why I mentioned not to solely book this for the view. If you like modern hotels as we do you will be disappointed. The Movenpick opposite the visitors centre is much newer, modern and a nicer hotel but double the price. In hindsight I would’ve booked there. We were greeted by Belal at reception- he was wonderful throughout our stay and so friendly. He couldn’t do enough for us and was very attentive. He also offered us an upgrade of room and later checkout. The suite we were upgraded to had a spacious bedroom and a large living area. The bathroom was tiny for the level of space in all other rooms so this was disproportionate. The room was clean but very outdated in terms of decor so were the communal areas (old carpet) and the dining area. This hotel is really in need of TLC and a revamp and I believe it’s taking advantage of all the tourists in Petra rather than maintaining a decent Movenpick standard. I’ve stayed in other Movenpick hotels in the world and this is the most run down one I’ve been to. On our first night we tried the buffet, this was 23JD (£26.05 pp). There was no selection in food and it was definitely a rip off. The dessert selection was beyond poor and we were very disappointed. One of the staff that was waiting on our table asked for feedback and we spoke to the duty manager, however when we expressed concerns about the lack of selection he replied “I know” rather than taking our feedback on board and saying he would act on it. Breakfast was also lacking in variety and options. If you’re a British customer and you are going to be using the TV, there aren’t any English speaking channels on the TV, not even BBC news. They have the option to cast your device but unfortunately this is only for Android users which makes no sense. As an iPhone user we couldn’t watch anything after a long day. There are two ways to look at this hotel, one - it is close enough to Petra but expensive to get a taxi to. The bad decor may not be a factor if you want something that isn’t going to break the bank as you w

Response from Property: Dear Iw186, We greatly appreciate the time you spent to review your recent experience in our hotel, at Mövenpick we always strive to exceed guests' expectations and your comments will help our teams reaching that goal. Mövenpick Nabatean Castle is one of the most unique hotels in Jordan due to its fitting-fort like architecture and intricate interior designs that are featured throughout the hotel, we are saddened to know that it wasn't up to your expectation, we also want to explain that our hotel has just been renovated in the year of 2019 and still continuing the improvement of it. We also understand that our hotel might not be the best location for your holidays, this is why we encourage you for a future occasion to visit our website to make sure you book the Accor destination that can make all your dreams come true. We are really sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the experience in our hotel to the fullest as we strive to make each stay with us an unforgettable one, discussions involving the respective management have taken place to review your comments, and we would like to assure you that all of your concerns will be addressed and attended to. We would be very pleased to welcome you again in the future ensuring you in advance of our utmost commitment to make your next Mövenpick holiday experience an unforgettable one for all the right reasons.
