Our family of 5, two couples and a 4 year old, stayed at the Marbella Elix in 2 family suites, for a fortnight at the beginning of July on the ‘ultra’ all inclusive package. We booked with Jet2 but didn’t see or gear ftom anyone representing them all fortnight. For the most part, the holiday was perfect - great weather but always a welcome breeze, a stunning hotel in a superb location, a lovely beach and pool, beautiful rooms with views to die for and well shaded balconies, superb food and drink offerings, friendly but professional service throughout, engaging kids’ club, etc etc However, a couple of ******* … At times the place seemed overcrowded, especially the buffet restaurant where too many people were crammed into certain spaces at busy times, but also the pool and the beach, at both of which the best beds were typically gone by 10.30am. A related point, there were many more children (and associated noise and activity levels) than we had expected, and the free kids’ club hours (10am - 1pm and 3pm - 6pm) did nothing to make meal times and evenings relaxed affairs. We would have expected a turn down service in a 5 star hotel; there was none. We’re not sure why the AI package is labelled ‘ultra’ when it excludes mini bar and room service. The ‘dine out’ feature consisted of a 5 minute minibus ride to a very standard Greek restaurant in Arilla with a limited food and drink offering and a level of service way below that provided by the hotel. We cancelled our second booking immediately on returning from the first. The a la carte restaurants had very restricted menus that didn’t change over the fortnight (the kids’ menu was more varied!!). Boat trips were expensive - €600 for a half day trip to Parga - certainly worth visiting and better to do so by sea than by road. All that said, we had a wonderful time and would love to visit again, although a week is probably long enough and we’d avoid July and August. Be aware that the cliff top / side location means that there are steps everywhere, even if you use the funicular to go to the beach. And it’s a long journey from and to the airport, even by private transfer.
