Average hotel with great location but needs renovation and better breakfast service I stayed at Hotel Raphael in Pemba, Mozambique, and found it to be an average property that is quite dated and in need of some refreshing and maintenance. The staff were friendly and polite, but the overall service level was just okay rather than memorable. Nothing particularly negative, but also nothing that really stood out. The biggest downside was breakfast. It is served as a buffet, but if you arrive around 7:30–8:00 or later, there is very little left. Unfortunately, items are not really replenished once they run out, which is quite disappointing and should definitely be improved. They practically don't offer fruits despite it is not difficult to find them in Pemba. Dinner in the restaurant was generally fine, with decent food and acceptable quality, but very loud music. The rooms are quite spacious, which is a plus, and the location is good – only about 30–50 meters from the beach, which is definitely one of the hotel’s strongest advantages. On the downside, the bathrooms (showers and taps in particular) are quite old and clearly in need of renovation. Overall, the hotel feels worn out and would benefit from a proper update to improve cleanliness and comfort. Free wifi is okay. In summary, it’s a property with good potential thanks to its location and room size, but it really needs refurbishment and better breakfast service to meet modern guest expectations.
